EOT’s Pavos Series Faraday Rotators rotate the plane of polarized light 45° in the forward direction and an additional 45° of non-reciprocal rotation in the reverse direction while maintaining the light’s linear polarization. When placed between crossed polarizers, a Faraday rotator becomes an optical isolator. An optical isolator shields lasers from destabilizing and potentially destructive back-reflected light from interfaces on downstream optics or back-scattered ASE from optical amplifiers. Based on high Verdet constant, low absorption coefficient Terbium-based rotating material, and developed to work with up to 50W of average input power in the 1µm wavelength range, Pavos Series optical isolators provide the ultimate protection for polarized output from Nd– or Yb-doped crystal, glass, and fiber lasers.

Eurys Series - Small Aperture (5mm) Broadband Faraday Rotators and Isolators for Ti:Sapphire Lasers
EOT’s Eurys Series Broadband Rotators rotate the plane of polarized light 90° at 800nm in the forward direction and 0° from 720-950nm in the reverse direction while maintaining the light’s linear polarization. When placed between crossed polarizers, a broadband Faraday rotator becomes a broadband optical isolator. Eurys Series broadband optical isolators provide high transmission in the forward direction and strongly attenuates back-reflected light between 720-950nm in the reverse direction protecting Ti:Sapphire oscillators from the deleterious effects of back reflections and also eliminating preferential las-ing at the lower gain wavelengths of Ti:Sapphire lasers. Utilizing optics with low refractive indices and short optical pathlengths minimizes pulse broadening due to dispersion in the optics associated with ultra-short laser pulses.

Tornos Series optical isolators can be ordered with dichroic glass polarizers to minimize the size of the device for low power applications or they can be ordered with polarizing beam splitter cube polarizers for applications where maximum transmission is required and power levels do not permit the use of dichroic glass polarizers. By aligning the output polarizer orthogonal to the backward traveling light, isolation can be maximized within the usable wavelength range of the optical isolator.

If protecting a seed source from back reflections from a Q-switched laser, EOT recommends using polarizing beam splitter cubes due to their ability to withstand high pulse energies. EOT’s 70 W Fiber Laser Isolators have been specifically designed for pulsed Yb Fiber Lasers used in marking and engraving applications. Marking and engraving of highly reflective metals can result in large levels of back reflection, creating the potential for non-optimal performance of the laser or even damage to the laser. This can result in unacceptable marking quality and significant down time. Utilizing high damage threshold optics, these isolators provide for high transmission of light in the forward direction and strong attenuation of light traveling in the reverse direction. Designed specifically for harsh, industrial environments, an integrated beam expanding telescope assures excellent beam-pointing stability and beam quality, which is required to assure high quality marking and engraving.
