Rome News-Tribune:Southeastern Mills is donating nearly $100,000 to localfood banks and organizations that are supporting communities and retail andfood service workers across the country.

“At Southeastern Mills, community is at the core of who we are,” said BradOlsen, vice president of marketing in a press release. “With so muchuncertainty in communities everywhere, we’re trying to help create comfort andnourishment when it’s needed most.”

The company is donating $10,000 each to six local food banks, including theHOPE Alliance in Rome. The donations are on behalf of its consumer brandsincluding Better Than Bouillon, Louisiana Hot Sauce, Southeastern Mills andShore Lunch, along with JMH Premium and the company’s food servicepartners.

In addition, Southeastern Mills has donated over $20,000 in freight costs forfood deliveries to several efforts.

“We hope it’s not long until families and friends can gather together again forgreat food and good times. Until then, our family of brands is committed todoing our part to help support people and communities across the country,”said Jason Marion, vice president of human resources in the release. “We areworking to help create food experiences that satisfy appetites during thesechallenging times.”

To join the effort, they’re encouraging consumers to donate directly to a localfood bank in need.

The company reported they have experienced no interruption in supply, and incontinuing to build and maintain its inventory.

Rome High School createsvirtual prom for students

FOX 5 NEWS ROME, Ga. - Rome High School hosted a virtual prom for itsstudents Saturday night.

"We created a virtual prom here at Rome High School. It's always time forcreative thinking, different way of doing things. obviously, we can't do thenormal times. We must be creative and courageous," said Dr. Eric Holland, theprincipal of Rome High School.

Carson Garrett and his fellow classmates have experienced an unusual senioryear, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"From kindergarten to now, we've always talked about when you receive thatdiploma, when you walk across the stage when you go to your last prom. andit's really disheartening to have these events canceled," Garrett said.

Garrett, the senior class president along with the junior class president workedwith school officials to plan the virtual prom. "It's a good way to show that our school is still here for our kids even thoughwe're not there in person. It's still going to be real nice to have the little time toget together and have some fun," said Adan Escutia-Cruz, the junior classpresident.

Garrett and his friends gathered on a Zoom call Saturday night, taking part in aone of a kind, social distancing friendly prom. Garrett said it was encouraging to see the Rome High School community cometogether to create a memorable experience for the class of 2020.

"I think it really shows how strong of a community we are and how our schoolis trying to do things for us in this difficult time," Garrett said.

Hometown Headlines: The pandemic has been especially rough on area high schoolseniors who’ve realized many of the benefits of their final year of classes have beenerased by fears of spreading coronavirus.

As one mother wrote, “All the things we take for granted — such as graduation,baccalaureate, senior prom, senior skip day (lol), senior picnic and even senior trip”are wiped out this spring.

But she and her graduate were stunned to get the above note from Dr. JeffWilson, superintendent of Floyd County Schools. In it, he tells the student aboutbeing sorry for the abrupt changes to the final months. He closes with this:“I also want you to know that I believe in you and that I know you have a great futureahead of you. Your superintendent, Jeff Wilson.”

Mason Kinsey to Sign UndraftedFree Agent Deal With TennesseeTitans

Berry College ROME, Ga. — Following the conclusion of the 2020 NFL Draft,Berry football standout, Mason Kinsey, announced that he has agreed to signa priority free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans. Kinsey will become thefirst Berry football player to sign with an NFL team.

"I've been talking to the Titans for a long time," Kinsey said. "This issomewhere I really wanted to be. Coming from where I'm from, all you can askfor is an opportunity. This isn't a minicamp invite. I'm signed and I'm blessed tobe put in a great situation with Tennessee."

Kinsey solidified himself as the top wide receiver in Berry football history duringhis senior year. He claimed his third consecutive All-Conference first-teamhonor and was named a D3football.com third-team All-American. TheDemorest, Ga., native holds program records in nearly every receivingcategory, finishing his career with a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) record3,343 receiving yards and 50 receiving touchdowns. He led the SAA in allmajor receiving categories this year and ranked top-15 in NCAA Division III.
