FAQ and Setup Instructions for Printing from Oracle ERP Cloud

When will the functionality to print directly from the ERP Cloud be available?

Answer: This functionality is now available.

Is there an alternative means of printing reports, documents, etc.?

Answer: Yes. Typically, an ESS  job, for example, invoice print, checks, statements, etc. will generate a report. These reports can be downloaded to the end users local machine and printed.

What is the standard Protocol for printing directly from the Oracle ERP Cloud?

Answer: IPP over HTTPS

Can an example URI be provided?

Answer: Yes. Example URI is ipp://printers.yourcompany.com:631/printers/checks This is only an EXAMPLE of a URI.

Does direct printing from the Oracle ERP Cloud require an SSL certificate from a Certification Authority?

Answer: Yes, a valid ‘Certificate Authority’ (e.g., Verisign, Comodo, GoDaddy etc.) CA SSL certificate is required.

Does Oracle monitor or track the expiration of the SSL certificate?

Answer: It is your responsibility to make sure the printer always presents a “valid” and “standard”certificate. Oracle does not monitor or track the expiration of your SSL certificates.

Can a self signed SSL certificate be used, rather than a certificate from a Certification Authority?

Answer: No. Self signed certificates are not supported.

What setup steps are required by cloud customers, in order to print directly from the Oracle ERP Cloud?

Answer: Customers must set up an IPP based print server that is accessible via the internet over a secure connection. Customers must ensure that the on-site print server is accessible from the Oracle Public Cloud. If there is a firewall that is protecting your internal servers, then a firewall policy/rule

needs to be configured, by you, to allow incoming traffic to the onsite print server.

If a firewall policy needs to be configured by an ERP Cloud customer, where can a whitelist of trusted IP addresses be found?

Answer: Please review IP Whitelist for Web Service Calls Initiated by Oracle Sales Cloud (Doc ID 1903739.1)

Can the print server be the printer itself, or, must a print server be, for example, a CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) server?

Answer: The IPP print server can be the printer itself, which is the easiest option. Newer printers already have built in IPP over HTTPS support. Consult the printer’s user guide for specific setup requirements and availability. If the printer does not natively support IPP over HTTPS, then a CUPS server (or print server that supports IPP over HTTPS) can be used. For CUPS (or similar) based setup, ERP Cloud BI Publisher will connect to the print server, and then the print server would connect to the printer. All required setups will need to be completed and tested by Cloud customers. If using a CUPS server, are additional setups in BI Publisher required?

Answer: No. Once a printer is shared, using CUPS, a direct URI for the printer can be obtained from the CUPS web-interface. The URI would be used in the BI Publisher Setup (see below).

After the above steps are completed, what steps must be taken by Oracle ERP Cloud customers, in order to print from the cloud?

1. Log in to BI Publisher as a user with Administrative privileges.

2. Navigate to 'Administration', and click the Delivery > 'Printer' link.

3. Click the 'Add Server' button

4. Populate the fields, 'Server Name' and 'URI'

 Is a Service Request needed to enable printing from the Cloud?

Answer: Yes. After you have set up your print server with a valid CA SSL certificate, please log an SR with Cloud Product Support and reference this note. You will need to provide the POD and the URI for your printer. Support

with then take the necessary steps to ensure your printer can be securely reached from the Oracle ERP Cloud.

Are additional security settings necessary?

Answer: No. Encryption is ALWAYS turned on in your cloud environment.

Instead of an IPP URI, can an HTTPS URI be used?

Answer: No. With encryption turned on (and it is ALWAYS on) the IPP URI translates an HTTPS request to the print server. Please populate the URI field with the IPP URI. See the example in the screen shot and example URI in this note.
