Hi and welcome to the fourth H&A edition of the Fantasy Freako’s rave for 2018. Tom Mitchell’s substandard score kept team tallies low last week. This round looms as a tricky one, with the final game not being played until Wednesday. That means that final teams for Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon won’t be known

until after the final lockout. Make sure you keep that in mind when planning your trades this week.

Only 18% of the competition were the beneficiaries of Brodie Grundy’s career-high disposal tally of 33 last round against Adelaide. In fact, it wasn’t the only record he smashed. He also posted career-highs for contested possessions and clearances as highlighted in the table below.

I’m not sure why Grundy was overlooked by many as a ruck option this season, with plenty opting for the under-priced combination of Max Gawn and Nic Naitanui instead, while others were drawn to

KING KONG GRUNDYthe ball-winning ability of Stefan Martin. Grundy has outperformed each of them and looks set to end the season as the highest scoring ruckman.

The possibility of ‘sharing’ ruck duties with Mason Cox turned me away from Grundy, but that hasn’t eventuated. Cox has attended just five centre bounces per game, which includes three in each of his past two games since returning from suspension, down from nine in the season opener.

Grundy is averaging career-high numbers across every statistical measure for a ruckman, which includes disposals (22.5). If we compare his start to the season to other ruckmen since 2000, he falls three disposals short of equalling the previous best tally of 93 disposals by Dean Cox in 2009. Cox was the premier fantasy ruckman over this period, boasting three of the top-four disposal tallies as shown below. Grundy is at the peak of his powers and doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon, so if you’re after a ruckman, then he’s your man.
