Chosen Subject and Target Audience After some extensive research into the four subjects we could have chosen. I eventually decided that I want going to focus on the Hookworm instead of the other more biological subjects such as Influenza or Malaria. It was a close choice between Slime Mold and Hookworm, as these two seemed more interesting too me in terms of the way they work and act within their respective environments. I settled on Hookworm because after looking at the way the Worm survives and reproduces by burrowing into a host and living inside their body, I got these huge Alien vibes, Much like the face huggers and chest buster's and as you may not know Alien Is my Favorite Horror/Sci fi movie of all time, not just because of it's amazing directing and story, but because of the huge subtext's behind the movie and the things it try's to convey.

My Target Audience for my Final animation is going to be older students ( around 15-20) or just more Mature people in general. as I want to make it have more of a scary, Horror vibe to it, which I don't feel would be appropriate for a younger audience. I chose to look at this Audience because it reflects myself when I was back in secondary school and even sixth form. When I was sitting in my classes I found the subjects much more interesting when the subject was explained using some form of shock value, or had a scary side to it. I used to do a lot of projects in Biology during my A levels using a Horror theme to describe the way disease worked.

So In short I am looking to target an older audience of people who, like me, found it much more interesting to learn about a subject when it tried to scare you into being interested and invested in what was happening on the screen.

Initial Hookworm Designs

These are some of the initial designs I have for my Hookworm. As you can see they are very Alien-esque which could be a problem due to the incredibly recognizable style that they have. I have tried to vary the designs slightly going from harsher, sharper designs to some softer more rounded shapes. I have also included an example of an Egg sack opening up in the top thumbnails, too see how the worms can be introduced in the beginning of the animation.

#

These designs were completed quickly with Charcoal to try and get a sense of how the worm would move and how he feels. I wasn't aiming for perfection with them, just to see how the worm would appear and the texture I may include.

#

Finally we have the most recent drawing I have made. These ones are much more harsh then the previous. As if they would be incredibly painful if they were in the body. Just me experimenting with the designs to see what I can extend the style to.

Environment designs are coming soon.
