A little round-round land
biaugust.com
A little round-round land has brought joy and happiness over to the coffee table, overthrown the stereotyped image of a cup.The cup itself has been processed with platinum to create the mirror like effect. It reflects the picture of the inner side of the cup. With the influence of the sense of smell, vision and taste, the user enters the merry-go-round on the coffee table and enjoys the coffee as soon as he/she spins the cup with hands.

Symbiosis - Mushroom Chair
biaugust.com
A discarded furniture, forgotten in the corner, lifeless and no longer functional, sits quietly in its own lonely space. Newborn spores came falling on it and settled. Their roots spread into the depth of the furniture, starting to decompose its dead parts and transform them into nutrients, and grow into "rebirth mushrooms" that are attached exclusively to the furniture. This inseparable "symbiotic" relationship allows both sides to coexist and makes life more valuable. Gaining its rebirth through the mushrooms, the once dead furniture continues to exist within our lives. This series is a combination of scrap furniture and "rebirth mushrooms". The scrap furniture earned a new life through "rebirth mushrooms"while keeping its original appearance and function.

PLASTIC CERAMIC-VASEDesignerPili WuCraft ArtistTsun-jen LeeNo.Eggshell porcelainDimensionsH32 x ø28 cm Disposable cups and plates, commonly seen at roadside banquets in Taiwan, were the direct inspiration for objects of fine porcelain. The shapes of the cheap plastic are still recognizable, but gain new meaning: the "rib column” structure, widely applied to lower the costs of plastic production, gives an elegant touch to the refined porcelain tableware.

Plastic strings are standard low-cost industrial products, and in addition to Taiwan being a plastic kingdom, plastic strings have been used for decades, whether it’s used in street vendors or for store… it’s everywhere. There are many kinds of plastic strings available on the market, but this unique red strings with saturated color is special to Taiwan, it is more than a colored string, it also represents the process of Taiwan’s economical development, as well as Taiwanese people’s attitude and spirits. After taking some time to experiment the material’s characteristics, its original meaning and uniqueness of quickly fastening objects is kept, and used to be wrapped around handmade china vase and dishes which are being forgotten as a result of mass production and industrialization. Plastic strings are tightened and shaped after being placed in an oven at 200°C, forming the outline of traditional china vase. Traditional patterns may be seen through the string’s gaps, yet they are slowly fading away due to the replacement of handmade by machinery. The strings wrap out a result of cultural values and historical emotions of Taiwan, as if telling the story of the fast changes that the Taiwanese society has gone through.

Plastic Classic
In Taiwan, plastic stools are very popular, seen on streets, alleys, and by street food stalls or ban dou (traditional Taiwanese outdoor banquet, seen at weddings or celebrations). Plastic chairs and stools have been present for a very long time, yet interestingly nobody knows about the designer or inventor of plastic stools, but it’s cheap price, simple structure and fast production has enabled its popularity, so popular that it has turned into a “classic” design that nobody has every really noticed.
Similarly, loop chair is another classic of traditional Chinese furniture, its elegant and reliable structure represents a certain social status and position. The naming of Plastic Classic, is aiming to redefine the design of such unknown “classical” cheap plastic stool; combining mass-produced cheap stool with a contradicting traditional loop chair of elegant structure and expensive imagery, hence creating a new classic; a strong contrast is made due to differing history and background, as well as the cheap and expensive expression that people already had in mind, Plastic Classic is a chair that has two personalities in one body.

An “Industrial” product is to create an object which could result in the largest economical benefits possible, hence such objects are designed in a way which could be mass produced, modular, and efficient in transportation; whereas a “craft” product are usually defined as objects handmade in limited amounts with extremely delicate details, or even be related to invisible, sometimes spiritual. IKEA is known as a global brand and plays a key role behind the mass produced furniture market, the “Globallylocal” series is created in hopes of combining Taiwanese traditional crafts masters with IKEA, Global brand IKEA meets Taiwanese crafts, generating a new meaning for its modern-style objects.

A skillfully lacquered and decorated chair loses its everyday dullness. A typical IKEA table leg is covered with a wood-carved decoration. An ordinary lampshade gets a transparent porcelain cover with a pattern inside portraying a mythical battlefield of tigers and dragons. A new lampshade for a desk light turns a plain light bulb into a mysterious fireball. “Adding” stories to dull industrial products, as well as enriching Taiwanese crafts culture while also helping such global products to stand out from the crowd, therefore redefining the stereotype and breaking boundaries of crafts and industrial products.

Inspiration for ‘Urban Camper’ lighting objects was drawn from the symbolism associated with lanterns in the cultural of east and west, and how each has found a place in the heart of the other. On a broader level, they attempt to encapsulate the contrast and contradiction in building elaborate wood cages and delicate paper shades.
