What is mediation? It is your opportunity to find your own solution to yourown problems by talking face-to-face with yourpartner. The process is facilitated by a highly trainedand experienced mediator.

How does it work? Mediators are impartial. They don’t take sides. Theydon’t give advice. They do give information and helpyou both explore options and find long lastingsolutions to your own issues.

They help you focus together as parents on thechildren’s needs.

Mediation is voluntary. There are no secrets inmediation. The process is confidential. You arerequired to be honest and open regarding yourfinancial position and encouraged to take legal advicethrough the process.

What is in it for you? � You focus as parents on the children’s needs � It is emotionally beneficial to try and sort things outtogether

� It reduces tension and hostility � It helps you make informed decisions at a time thatworks for you

� It reduces the expense of court � You can meet as frequently as you wish often at shortnotice

� Any outcome will be your outcome � It may be available to you free

Will I get public funding? If you are eligible for public funding then Stone King LLPhave the franchise and are able to offer you this service.The service is free and there is no claw back on finalresolution. You also have access to Legal Help withMediation through local solicitors who will not charge youfor their advice if you are eligible for public funding.

What sort of issues do you deal with in mediation? � How to separate/divorce � Plans for the children � Plans for finances includingproperty/pensions/maintenance/capital/businesses

What does it cost? If you are eligible for public funding nothing.

If you are not eligible then £120 per hour per personfor the face-to-face time and the time spent preparingdocuments. Sessions usually last 90 minutes andthere are often some three to six sessions.
