It is an honor because God is presented in Scripture as our Father. Jesus said in Mahew 6:5–9, 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name…’” That’s just one of many passages in Scripture that depicts God as our father by creaon (origin), and by recreaon (spiritually). Therefore, “God’s fatherhood is the ground and paern for human fatherhood.” However, to have such an honor bestowed upon us carries with it great responsibilies. Just having the tle “Father” is not enough; you need to possess the characteriscs and aributes that are conveyed in the very word “Father.” Fatherhood means much more than the reality that you have the biological capacity to reproduce offspring. All it takes to reproduce is to be a male, and to be old enough (physiologically) to produce seed. But to be a father necessitates: love, care, protecon, provision, discipline, and instrucon. For example, the Greek word for father is Pater; it is “from the root pa, which means, nourisher, protector, upholder.” Therefore, a father has to nourish, protect, and support his children and his family. His family has to be able to depend on him, and he is dependable. Furthermore, a father has the responsibility of teaching his children about life, and specifically about God (Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6:1–4, Deuteronomy 6:4–9). As fathers, we have the responsibility of passing on our faith to our children, or to state it another way, we must seek to infuse our spirit of faith and faithfulness in our offspring just as Abraham did, and is called “the father of those who believe” (Romans 4:11). Fatherhood is also inclusive of the concept of being a source of wise counsel, just as Joseph was a source of sound counsel for Pharaoh (Genesis 45:8). In conclusion, as we celebrate Father’s Day, let us never forget that it is a disnct honor bestowed upon us by God to be called a father. Let us never forget that God intends for us to let our children see a glimpse of Him in us. Our children should learn something about the character and aributes of God by observing us, and experiencing our love, paence, counsel, care, protecon, provision, instrucon, and discipline. May God help us to be all that is inherited in the appellaon “Father.” Brother George Williams, Minister LADIES MINISTRY Ladies Bible Study | East Side Sunday, June 25th | 4:30 pm MEN’S MINISTRY Men's Bible Study | East Side Sunday, June 25th | 4:30 pm EDUCATION MINISTRY Educaon Commiee Meeng Sunday, June 25th | 4:30 pm | East Side HEALTH AWARENESS MINISTRY There will be a Health Awareness Ministry meeng immediately aſter worship service Sunday, June 25th, in the medical room. He never looks for praises He’s never one to boast

He just goes on quietly working For those he loves the most.

His dreams are seldom spoken His wants are very few

And most of the time his worries Will go unspoken too.

He’s there…. A firm foundation Through all our storms of life

A sturdy hand to hold to In times of stress and strife.

A true friend we can turn to When times are good or bad

One of our greatest blessings, The man that we call Dad.
