What Is A Dad
A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall, but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again. A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes, but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt. A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fall... Dad, you're everything a dad should be and some.

The Honor of Fatherhood
It is a tremendous honor to have the designation “Father” bestowed upon us. It is an honor because God is presented in Scripture as our Father. Jesus said in Matthew 6:5–9, 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name…’” That’s just one of many passages in Scripture that depicts God as our father by creation (origin), and by recreation (spiritually). Therefore, “God’s fatherhood is the ground and pattern for human fatherhood.”
However, to have such an honor bestowed upon us carries with it great responsibilities. Just having the title “Father” is not enough; you need to possess the characteristics and attributes that are conveyed in the very word “Father.” Fatherhood means much more than the reality that you have the biological capacity to reproduce offspring. All it takes to reproduce is to be a male, and to be old enough (physiologically) to produce seed. But to be a father necessitates: love, care, protection, provision, discipline, and instruction. For example, the Greek word for father is Pater; it is “from the root pa, which means, nourisher, protector, upholder.” Therefore, a father has to nourish, protect, and support his children and his family. His family has to be able to depend on him, and he is dependable.
Furthermore, a father has the responsibility of teaching his children about life, and specifically about God (Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6:1–4, Deuteronomy 6:4–9). As fathers, we have the responsibility of passing on our faith to our children, or to state it another way, we must seek to infuse our spirit of faith and faithfulness in our offspring just as Abraham did, and is called “the father of those who believe” (Romans 4:11). Fatherhood is also inclusive of the concept of being a source of wise counsel, just as Joseph was a source of sound counsel for Pharaoh (Genesis 45:8).
In conclusion, as we celebrate Father’s Day, let us never forget that it is a distinct honor bestowed upon us by God to be called a father. Let us never forget that God intends for us to let our children see a glimpse of Him in us. Our children should learn something about the character and attributes of God by observing us, and experiencing our love, patience, counsel, care, protection, provision, instruction, and discipline. May God help us to be all that is inherited in the appellation “Father.”

THE SICK & SHUT-IN (Names unavailable for this week’s bulletin.)
I believe in praying,
giving God all our care I believe He listens . . .
to our every prayer.
I believe in God’s timing, leaving it all in His hands I believe our weaknesses
He graciously understands.
I believe God grants, our soul’s desire
I believe He hears . . . all that we require.
I believe in asking, God for our every need I believe He is delighted
when to His Word we heed.
I believe God answers, the cries from the heart
I believe He hears . . . the pleas for a new start.
I believe in praying, no matter the time of day I believe God listens . . .
no matter where we pray!

He never looks for praises He’s never one to boast
He just goes on quietly working For those he loves the most.
His dreams are seldom spoken His wants are very few
And most of the time his worries Will go unspoken too.
He’s there…. A firm foundation Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold to In times of stress and strife.
A true friend we can turn to When times are good or bad
One of our greatest blessings, The man that we call Dad.
