Strong BeginningsStrong Beginnings is a full or part day program designed to build up to Kindergarden and focus on academic excellence which will help children transition to Kindergarden. Using the building blocks children already have, Strong Beginnings refines their skills. This program is designed for 4 and 5 year olds and runs from: 0900 to 1200 each day.

Read to your Children For young children, books that rhyme and have rhythm are excellent. Be sure to read Mother Goose Rhymes often. You will find your child learning the words or words that SOUND like those from the book, and saying them back to you. You might be tired of reading that book for the 50th time but your child loves to spend time with you this way. Books with few words and bright pictures are also great to keep his/her attention. Elaborate on other things on the page too.

Take advantage of great Scholastic books and book club prices. Orders can be made online and shipped to CDC for pickup. Go to

FRIDAY ART GROUP ( February 2011 )2/4/11: Floor art! : Tape butcher paper to the floor to color on. This activity allows your toddler to experience an entirely new dimension in scribbling by using the whole body, instead of just the arm, to move around the paper. Tape the large piece of paper to the floor and begin to draw together, moving about as needed.

2/11/11: Marble paint Valentines: Trace and cut hearts / valentine shapes out of construction paper, write a message to your valentine and sick stickers on one side. Place cutouts in a tray (message side down), dip marbles in paint and roll over cutouts creating a card for your favorite valentine. Take home to dry. *PLEASE watch children closely with marbles!*

2/18/11: Air dry clay! : *This clay is a bit stiff so little ones will more than likely need help* Use cookie cutters, popsicle sticks to shape the clay then decorate with beads! Leave your creation to dry or take it home with you.

2/25/11: Paper towel coloring : Color with a marker on a paper towel (it looks cool!) then spritz it a few sprays of water to see what happens!

The Lunar New Year dates from 2600 BC, when the Emperor Huang Ti introduced the first cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

Because of cyclical lunar dating, the first day of the year can fall anywhere between late January and the middle of February. On the Chinese calendar, 2011 is Lunar Year 4709.

On the Western calendar, the start of the New Year falls on Thursday, February 3, 2011 — The Year of the Rabbit. If you were born in 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, or 2011 - you were born under the sign of the rabbit.

Like the rabbit, you are one of cuddliest & sweetest creatures in the Chinese zodiac.

Although considered somewhat timid by more dynamic signs, you are wise and cautious, and know better than to jump into any situation without thinking!

Tactful, considerate, and popular with a wide circle of friends and family, luck just seems to come to you unbidden.

For the rabbit in 2011, any recent setbacks or obstacles can be overcome, so look forward to a year in which to really shine, either personally or professionally.
