Students will learn how to reduce the risk and protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
Students will be able to:– Define 3 types of abuse– Understand that abuse must be reported to
children’s services bureau
Today’s lesson
Today’s lesson is on personal safety You should not share personal information in
class Remember your teacher is a mandated
reporter for child abuse. Remember the ground rules.
Definitions of child abuse
Child abuse is non-accidental injury or mistreatment of a child
Types of abuse include– Emotional abuse or mistreatment– Physical abuse– Sexual abuse– Neglect
Video: Yes you can say NO!
As you watch the video, think about these questions:– How did the boy feel about the abuse?– How did his friends react?– What choices did the boy have?– How did his parents react?– What can kids do if their friend is being abused?
Summary
Brainstorm a list of names of people at school or elsewhere you can talk to.
Use refusal skills if you can, but if you are in danger, get away and get help.
Child abuse is NEVER the child’s fault. If you are being abused, TELL SOMEONE!
