FAME Lesson 6.6 Jackson Pollock “Number 34” (1949) Mixed media painting with paint, glue and watercolor Student Materials 1. Large format poster board 2. Two clothespins attached to strands of yarn 3. Two portion cups with tempera paint of choice 4. Large cardboard backing 5. Colored glue bottle of choice (colored with liquid watercolor) 6. FAME label and glue stick 7. For grades 4-5: dropper and watercolor (step 7) DARKER COLOR 5. Repeat step 2 with the darker color. GLUE 6. Pick one of the colored glue bottles shared with other students. BLOT, DOT, or SWIVEL the glue as it pours out to get a variety of texture. BRIGHTER/LIGHTER COLOR 4. Take your lighter of the two colors and DLOP, SLAP, BRUSH, and SWIRL the yarn on the poster board. Have fun with this to achieve various textures. 1. Write your name on the FAME label and glue it on the back of the poster board. 2. Tell the kids to select a lighter/brighter color and a darker color. Pour approxi- mately 2 tablespoons of each color in separate portion cups. NOTE: To save time with younger grades, volunteers can pick and prearrange two colors for the children. 3. Demonstrate to the students to grip the clothespin along the sides by the coil instead of the tip of the pin so that they do not accidently release the yarn. Tell the students to swirl the yarn into the portion cup of paint to thoroughly saturated. DROPPER (GRADES 4-5) 7. Pick a liquid watercolor and pour into a portion cup just enough to fill half a dropper (2ml). The portion cups used for this step can be easily rinsed and reused. If you prefer you can directly suction half a dropper from the liquid watercolor bottle. • FAME lesson binder, blue tooth speaker and speaker with battery. • FAME label container • 800 sheets of large poster board • Colored glue bottle • Clothespins • Strands of yarn • Droppers • Liquid watercolor • Large cardboard backing • Glue sticks • 2 oz.
