Over 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners surrounded at the gate of

Tianjin Educational College from April 19 to April 23, 1999. This event was

caused by an article written by He Zuoxiu, a physical scientist and aca-

demician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The article

, which was published in the college

publication , cited a case that a PhD student

of Prof. He was obsessed by Li Hongzhi's theory which led him to

schizophrenia. The attack lasted four days.

Falun Gong practitioners illegally besieged Tianjin Educational College.

This was the case with the unprecedented number of Falun Gong

practitioners besetting the media. After the media reported for the first

time the cases of death and lunacy of the Falun Gong practitioners in

1994, dozens of media organizations came under organized attacks by

Falun Gong practitioners.

All these media organizations are located all over the country.

From June 1 to 3, 1998, Shandong Qilu Evening News press office

was illegally besieged by more than 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners be-

cause it had published an article entitled

on April 1.

On May 24, 1998, Beijing TV reported a case of lunacy suffered from

practicing Falun Gong. It was besieged by thousands of Falun Gong prac-

titioners. Beijing TV was then forced to fire one of its editors.

Following this event, Li Hongzhi released a well-known article

which was called lection by Falun Gong, mentioning that,

"some newspapers, radio stations and TV stations in various parts of the

country have harmed our Dafa... This was deliberately harming Dafa and

cannot be ignored...Dafa disciples in Beijing adopted a special approach

to ask those people to stop harming Dafa要

this actually was not wrong."

In the same article, Li Hongzhi warned the practitioners who hadn't

participated in the besetment, "At the crucial moment when I asked you to

break away from humanness, you did not follow me. Each opportunity will

not occur again."

※ He Zuoxiu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

and physical scientist, was denigrated by Li Hongzhi as "science ruffian"

and was threatened and molested by Falun Gong disciples because he

often disclosed daylight on the abnormal death cases of Falun Gong prac-

titioners and criticized Falun Gong theory.

The article entitled by He Zuoxiu

was published in Volume 4, 1999 of the magazine .

※ Dao Shuren, vice chairman of the Buddhist Association of China,

once pointed out that the Buddhist circle was against the activities infring-

ing upon human rights in the name of religion. This brought him letters of

threat from the Falun Gong.

report criticizing Falun Gong, thus receiving letters of insult and threat

from the Falun Gong.

efits by means of staging mobbish besieges and lodging excessive law-

suits against others, never feeling ashamed.

In November 1998, the BBC World released a report by Correspon-

dent James Miles about Falun Gong. The report pointed out that Falun

Gong is "No.1 Cult" in China and warned people that Falun Gong would

lead to "Collective Suicide." Falun Gong supporters wrote to CEO of BBC,

the British Ambassador to China and the British Prime Minister respec-

tively, demanding for BBC's public apology. "The reaction was quite ex-

traordinary," said Miles later, "More response than to any article I've ever

written in my entire career."

On November 3, 2001, the published an article

criticizing Falun Gong. The article is a self-statement by a former female

Falun Gong follower named He Bing. A number of Falun Gong supporters

lodged a lawsuit against the newspaper for its "libel." On December 7,

2005, the Supreme Court of Quebec of Canada came to the final verdict

of the case after four years: the plaintiff Falun Gong lost the lawsuit. The

verdict pointed out, "Falun Gong is a controversial movement, which does

not accept criticism."

In December 2003, the Australian published a declara-

tion by Chinese Embassy in Australia against Falun Gong. In May 2004,

Falun Gong lodged a lawsuit at the Supreme Court of New South Wales

against the newspaper for its "libel." Afterwards, Falun Gong made use of

its own media to widely attack the and made personal at-

tacks on the newspaper's editor-in-chief and other editors. On April 5,

2006, the Supreme Court of NSW of Australia ruled that Falun Gong lost

the lawsuit while won.

On January 21, 2005, the Associated Press published an article enti-

tled , which objectively reported

the status quo of the participants of the Tian'anmen Square self-immola-

tion incident on the Chinese New Year's Eve and their reflections on Falun

Gong. On the morning of January 25, Falun Gong organized a group of

people to demonstrate before the office building where the Associated

Press headquarters was located in Manhattan of New York, demanding

that the AP withdraw the report. On February 11, , of Falun

Gong, published an article calling the AP "down-to-earth small bastard."

The Great Wall Platform cooperated with Rogers Company in

scrupulously selecting 9 representative channels from 17 channels of the

American Great Wall Platform. The Rogers Cable agent is left to apply

with the CRTC for the entitlement to the program trans-broadcasting.

Such a local Chinese cultural and recreational affair was obstructed by

Falun Gong by every means. Between March and June of 2006, Falun

Gong organized its members for many times to demonstrate before the

Rogers' headquarters in Toronto, which severely affected the normal run-

ning of Rogers Company. On December 22, 2006, the Great Wall Plat-

form gained permission to open its business in Canada.

On February 6, 2008, the New York Times published a feature

entitled .

Afterwards, over dozen articles were released on the website of Falun

Gong to attack and frame New York Times and the author of the article

Eric Konigberg. The articles claimed that Eric Konigsberg was well known

by his ill reputation... and was absolutely inhuman.

The following examples illustrate the destructive activities conducted

by Falun Gong:

Over 100 cases of public communications facilities being damaged;

Tens of thousands of junk e-mails monthly;

A maximum of several million harassing phone calls monthly;

By August 7, 2007, China's civil satellites had been interfered 252

times by Falun Gong.

On the evening of March 5, 2002, the trunk fiber optical cables in

Changchun city and Songyuan city, Jilin province, were cut off by a few

Falun Gong members要 Zhou Runjun, Liu Weiming, Liang Zhenxing and

Liu Chengjun, and were linked to programs propagandizing Falun Gong.

Thousands of local citizens failed to receive the normal TV signals.

In October 2002, an American Chinese Li Xiangchun, also a Falun

Gong member, was caught while he was attempting to damage the com-

munication cable in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province. He claimed at the court

that his action was not violating laws since he was helping disseminating

the "Dafa."

According to incomplete statistics, Falun Gong has conducted some

100 such destructive offences in the Chinese mainland by the end of

2006.

specifies that: Anyone who sabotages broadcast or television facilities or

public telecommunications facilities and thereby endangers public security

shall be liable to imprisonment for a term of three to seven years and; if

circumstances are serious, to imprisonment of no less than seven years.

Why are Falun Gong followers are so keen on damaging public com-

munications facilities?

Minghui, the official mouthpiece of Falun Gong, provides the answer.

"Visit Minghui if you want to learn about anything significant," Li Hongzhi,

the leader of Falun Gong once told his followers.

This article abets Falun Gong practitioners to interfere in TV pro-

grams: Any action to safeguard human rights in a peaceful way is rational

and legal. To insert Falun Gong contents in a TV program, is just a way of

spreading information and expressing their voices, and does harm neither

to the audience nor to the facilities... Informing the public of the truth

through such a way is to safeguard the public's right of being in the know

and protect the public interests.

Moreover, a number of articles have been published on Minghui to

show the experience in damaging public communications facilities.

According to incomplete statistics, there are over 30 million junk

e-mails sent to China's mainland from abroad monthly.

Falun Gong organization admitted on its website that they made

more than 8 million annoying phone calls to China from abroad by virtue

of technical means in January and February of 2004.

On February 25, 2006, Li Hongzhi told Falun Gong practitioners,

"Some people have suggested writing 'Falun Dafa is good' or 'Quitting the

Party' on Renminbi. I think that's a good idea . You can't throw away

money, and you can't destroy it."

The satellite Sino I providing dozens of TV channels of the China's

mainland was hacked on June 23, 2002, by Falun Gong's illegal signal

sent from Taiwan province.

Falun Gong supporters do not think it is committing crimes. They

instead regard their actions as safeguarding China's Constitution and

international conventions. The way Falun Gong speculates to protect

themselves from being condemned for their attack against the

communication satellite is so strange that it is totally incompatible with the

global practice.

Chapter 3 Disease or Karma

Li Hongzhi's attitude toward medical help








Falun Gong was initiated in 1990s by an employee of Changchun

State-Owned Cereals and Oils Company in Jilin province named Li

Hongzhi, who now calls himself "the God of the Universe." However, a

large number of Falun Gong practitioners died of the cult; some

committed suicide, some were killed by others, and most of them died of

diseases for they refused to seek any medical help.

3.1 Medical helps are rejected by Falun Gong followers

After one was born, he or she may fall ill sometime throughout the

life. When one is ill he would usually take medicine, to have an injection or

to see a doctor for professional help, this is a common sense universally

acknowledged by any adults with proper thinking and judging capacity. But

sadly, this is not the case with some people.Zhang Jinsheng, aged 21, living in northeast China's Liaoning

province burnt his arm accidentally. But he refused to receive medical

treatment. Consequently, he died of septicaemia in November 1998

caused by the wound infection.①

Li Qiaoying, 58 years old, felt sick in October 1998. But she refused

to be treated at hospital and died of cerebral thrombosis in the following

December. Two days before her death, she was suffering from paralysis

and lost the ability of talking. Li kept weeping but it was too late to repent.②

Hu Aiping in Taiyuan city, Shanxi province, hadn't been well for a longtime and her family tried to get her any medical help, but in vain. One day,

she passed out and was sent to hospital by her family. Hu was diagnosed

as tubercular meningitis and she died on April 22, 1999.①

Sun Xixian was a retired veteran cadre retired from a financial

institution in Dalian city, Liaoning province, and was constantly ill for a long

time. On May 31, 1999, he didn't feel well but still refused to go to

hospital. His wife knelt down in front of him and begged him to see a

doctor but was refused bluntly. On the early morning of June 1, Sun died

because of the delay in seeking medical treatment.②

Statistics show that more than 1,400 persons died, directly or

indirectly, of Falun Gong before it was banned July 1999. This is one of

the key reasons why Chinese Government banned the group.

Falun Gong practitioner Hu Guangying, a retired worker in Shanghai

aged 59, caught an ordinary dermatosis in January 2001, but she

resolutely refused to accept medical treatment, and finally died of purulent

infection on the affected part.③

Yao Huimin living in Jianhua district of Qiqihar city , Heilongjiang

province, had got diabetes; as a practitioner, he refused to seek medical

help, and when Li Jing, his wife, begged him in tears to go to hospital, he

replied: "The Master is testing me with this so as to eliminate karma; don't

be afraid, Master will help me to eliminate karma and to remove my

disease as well." But he died of illness in April 2005, and he finally woke

up to reality before death: "Falun Gong killed me."①

In March 2006, Falun Gong core member Li Guodong died of liver

cancer in New York.②

Feng Lili, a core member of Falun Gong organization in US, claimed

that "Falun Gong has magic effect in building up health and keeping fit."

Her illness was diagnosed as pancreas cancer but she refused to take

medicine or to go to hospital and died in Houston on June 22, 2006.③

On the New Year's Day of 2007, Falun Gong core member Zhu

Genmei who lived in Germany died unexpectedly because of blood

infection resulting from delayed treatment as she refused to have medical

treatment for her diabetes.④

These are merely a few cases of death among Falun Gong

practitioners caused by refusing medical help, for Falun Gong

organizations deliberately hid from the public more deaths of practitioners,

especially those of overseas practitioners.

3. 2 Why Falun Gong practitioners refuse medical help

In the early days after Falun Gong was founded, many people joined

it in hopes of building up health or keeping fit. But Li Hongzhi led the

practitioners to participate in "Cultivation" and onto a wrong path step by

step. Many practitioners were trapped and had no way to free themselves,

some even lost their lives. To practice Falun Gong is more complicated

than merely repeating some dancing movements, for practitioners must

comply strictly with a lot of doctrines invented by Li Hongzhi.

Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, was also one of the Qigong

masters becoming popular in 1980s and 1990s in China, who claimed to

possess "super power" and "extraordinary powers." With "Qigong

Workshop" and the services treating diseases with "extraordinary powers,"

Li Hongzhi made a fortune but then risks followed as well.

Li Hongzhi was forced to refund a treatment fee of RMB 30 at the

1993 Qigong Expo in Beijing, at the insistence of Expo staff, when he

failed to cure a particular case.①

Li Shulin, 53-year-old, suffered from outburst of cerebral thrombosis

at a Falun Gong training course held by Li Hongzhi in August, 1994.

According to Li Hongzhi's explanation, it was a normal reaction as Li

Shulin was practicing higher-level Falun Gong and there was no need to

take medicines or injection. A couple of days later, Li died.②

In order to avoid potential risks, instead of calling himself Qigong

master, Li Hongzhi claimed that he was "the top Buddha in the universe."

He published in 1994 and explained the core theories of

Falun Gong, demanding that no doubt be allowed on these theories by

Falun Gong practitioners, otherwise, their "Cultivation" would end up in

great troubles and the practitioners would be eliminated.

The core of Falun Gong theory: Human beings are superior lives from

the universe falling on the earth. The earth is the garbage station of the

universe and America is the garbage station of the earth. Since the

morality of the human beings was ruined, this would further lead to the

blast of the earth and the extermination of human beings. It is Li Hongzhi

who will save the human beings with Falun Gong theory prepared by

him long long ago when the human beings had been destroyed already

several times. Learning Dafa can not only eliminate all the sickness and

trouble, but also turn all the practitioners into superior lives of the universe

such as Buddha, Dao and God. Whoever disbelieves Falun Gong will be

exterminated.

"Karma resulting from past wrongdoing, one has illnesses or

tribulations."①

"Why do people have health problems? The root cause of their

problem and all their misfortune is karma."②

"I've told you that when we cultivators feel uncomfortable somewhere

in our bodies it isn't sickness."③

As for Buddhism, the basic meaning of "Karma" is cause and effect.

Buddhist doctrine believes that all deeds, speeches, and thoughts will

have certain "effect." Since there are good and bad causes, there're also

corresponding good and bad effects. The results or "fruits" of actions are

called karma. Good karma will have good results or effects and will make

you go to the heaven in your next life; while bad karma will have bad

results or effects and you'll end up in the hell in your next life because of

that.

But Li Hongzhi tells his followers that no "Karma" is good, for "Karma"

is the basic reason why people fall ill or suffer in their lives. In other words,

physical illness is actually caused by the "Karma" of someone because of

the bad deeds he or she did in previous or present lives.

Li Hongzhi said: "Karma is a dark substance opposite to morals, it's

known as the bad karma in Buddhism and we just call it Karma. So to do

bad things is to make karma, and Karma is caused by the wrongdoings of

a person in previous or present lives, such as killing living beings, bullying

others, taking advantages of others by force, gossiping about other people

behind their back, or treating others badly, all these will cause Karma.

Moreover, your ancestors, friends, and relatives will also pass on Karma

to you."①

"What we lose, actually, is something bad. And what is it? It's karma,

and it's intertwined with all the different attachments people have. For

example, ordinary people have all sorts of character flaws, and they do all

kinds of bad things to benefit themselves. So they get this black matter,

karma."②

Buddhism has a long history of more than two thousand years in

China, with profound and extensive influence. Although most Chinese are

not Falun Gong practitioners, yet they still believe in such Buddhist

thoughts as "comeuppance" or "samsara." Being affected by the teachings

of Li Hongzhi, Falun Gong practitioners started to believe in the theory

that Karma will cause diseases. As for them, illness is not the pathological

changes of physical tissues or organs but is caused by the bad things they

have done in previous or present lives, in other words, illness is caused by

Karma. Unfortunately, the wrong belief leads them to a road of tragedy.

" (Some veteran practitioners) always go to the hospital to get

injections but it doesn't work. And taking medicine doesn't do much,

either...One of our students went to the hospital and had several syringe

needles bend on him ... but the needle still couldn't go in. Then he caught

on, 'Wait, I'm a cultivator! I don't want any more injections.'"①

"Once ill, the person takes medicine or seeks various kinds of

treatments, which in effect press the sickness back into the body again."②

"Because some diseases are not restricted within the scope of

worldly laws; some are so big that they go beyond any worldly law, that's

why no hospital can treat them."③

"If the master's potency is very high, then he can eliminate karma for

you."④

"The first thing is to get rid of the bad stuff in your body, and that

includes health problems. But we don't do healing here. What we do is

cleanse the body. And we don't use the term 'healing,' we just call it

cleansing the body要 we cleanse the body for true cultivators."⑤

"Maybe some folks would...be ill like that for years...How could you

cultivate with your remaining years? We have to clean up all of that for

you and not let those things happen."⑥

"Taking medicine while practicing Falun Gong means not believing

that Falun Gong is able to cure illness. If you believe, why do you need to

take medicine? "①

"You want to let out this karma, yet you take medicine and press it

back in要 how are we supposed to cleanse your body?"②

"I just went over the issue of taking medicine again...If he doesn't

want to cultivate, even if he choose s to take poison, it's an everyday

person's affair. Nobody else can do anything if his mind remains

unchanged."③

"When physical symptoms appear, as for ordinary people, it's disease

and they would go to hospital; but as for practitioners, it's Karma and a

sign warning you that you haven't improved yourself for a long time and

there's a leak. It is an illusion, which will come and go in your mind."④

"My neck was so rigid that, at any movement, I would feel dizzy,

weak, confused and want to vomit...but at that time, I haven't compre-

hended the teachings of master very well and no matter how hard my wife

tried to communicate with me, I've only managed to make it for seven

days and on the seventh day, I wasn't unwilling to go to hospital...I regret it

so much for not being able to pass the test...At the thought of practicing, I

felt so oppressed...I almost felt like suffocating, a panic that was out of my

control, and an overwhelming bad omen. But at the same time, I felt sober

than ever before. Keeping in mind the lesson I learned from last case of

illness karma, no matter how panic I felt, I managed to stay calm and to

have strong confidence in both master and Fa. With a strong belief, all

karma can be eliminated. I got rid of all worries and concerns, keeping

telling myself that, with the help of master, by sticking to Fa, why would I

be afraid and why would I be concerned about other things?"①

"For the last few years, I've learned Fa but haven't focused on Fa,

and the actual practice is even worse. So when the sign of illness ap-

peared several years ago, I failed in getting the right message. Because I

haven't practiced it well enough, together with the effect of Karma, I be-

come increasingly ill."②

On July 2, 2008, a practitioner named Xuantong published an article,

, on Minghui which said: "When we fall ill, apart from staying

free from the interference and disturbance of the Old Force, we should al-

so know that it's the time when we should pay back for what we've done

before. At the same time, to pass the test of illness is a good chance for

us to improve ourselves. Facing illness, we should send forth righteous

thoughts but to fight with the Old Force is not all that we should do, for we

should also accept and repay what we should (it's probable that we've

done something wrong in the heaven or during our previous lives). What

we should fight with is all sorts of oppression forced on us and I think the

point is that we must always keep in mind to continuously improve our-

selves."③

You can find similar articles almost everyday on the website, from

which it becomes clear that many practitioners have never doubted about

the theory of "curing disease by practicing Falun Gong" preached by Li

Hongzhi. They stubbornly believe that their illness will go away if they

keep practicing Falun Gong and keep eliminating Karma.

As a result, the practitioners don't seek any medical help when they

fall ill and the only thing they do is practice Falun Gong in the hope that

the illness will go away.

3.3 Endless sufferings from "removing Karma"

During their practicing Falun Gong, many practitioners fell ill and

wanted to go to hospital for professional medical help, but at the thought

of "Karma," they had to drop the idea and believed that even the thought

of "seeking medical help" was disrespect to Master Li Hongzhi.

Here are some examples:

"At about eleven o'clock at night on September 25, 2007, I fell asleep

and then suddenly woke up with acute stomachache and a heavy head.

My entire body ached, I vomited and had severe diarrhea. After midnight, I

felt dizzy, confused, and weak due to watery diarrhea, and then I couldn't

recall how I ended up lying on the cold cement ground of the courtyard af-

ter stepping out of the toilet ... But I denied it immediately, for I was on the

road to becoming God and no illness would affect God. So I realized that

this was the persecution on me by the Old Force, so I denied and ignored

it as a fake appearance. Master once told us that the only thing the Old

Force wanted to do was to change others while it had always been the

same without any change. So I told the Old Force: you refuse to assimi-

late to Dafa, you threaten the public with those Old Theories, you prevent

Master from rectifying Fa, and so you have no right to test me."①

"I hadn't felt well in my belly for several months last year, both my

mother and my spouse said I should go to hospital for a physical examina-

tion, but I didn't agree with them, for I knew it was caused by the elimina-

tion of karma ... It came once again on the second day, and I dealt with it

by sending forth righteous thoughts while lying on bed for a rest at night.

For my revelation was apparently not a thorough one, on the third day,

things became worse. My belly couldn't stand even a gentle touch; I

couldn't eat anything, had no strength to go to toilet and it almost killed me

at even a small movement. Later on, my entire body ached so much that I

felt difficult to talk and then even to breathe. I kept coughing and yawning;

I ground my teeth due to the pain and had to rub my belly with both hands.

At night, it still hurt very much when I rest on my sides, on back, or with a

pillow behind. I tried to relieve the pain by pressing tightly against the belly

with hands and found a lump inside."②

"One day, I had a fever and my body ached so much that I tumbled

on bed, sweating a lot. I thought that a long time had passed, but accord-

ing to the watch, I have endured for only ten minutes. I told myself to hold

it for one more minute, and then another minute after that; for I knew Mas-

ter was with me there. So I kept telling myself: Master, I can do this! ... I

kept reciting the teaching of Fa-rectification of Master: 'Fa will rectify the

universe, and all evils will be eliminated.' I believed that the power of these

words would help me get rid of the illness Karma, so heavy a burden on

me like a big mountain."③

"After I finished doing morning exercises on the thirteenth day of the

first lunar month and right after I sent forth six righteous thoughts , I felt

acute aches in both waist and belly, accompanied by vomit and diarrhea.

The first thought coming into my mind was: this is the persecution of the

evil force. So I asked for the help of Master immediately ... I kept sending

forth righteous thoughts, although I quickly became bed-ridden and

couldn't move around, yet I kept practicing it and around eleven in noon, I

called two practitioners living in my neighborhood, asking them to help me

in sending forth righteous thoughts."①

"A dozen of days before February 23, my spouse suffered he-

matemesis occasionally but we didn't pay much attention to it at first by

discarding it as the elimination of karma. But on the night of February 23,

my spouse had acute pain in chest and couldn't fall into asleep due to

cough for three days after that. At that time, we realized that it was the

persecution of the Old Force and started to fight against it by sending

forth righteous thoughts, for that's the correct road arranged for us by

Master. My spouse became increasingly thin due to the pain and our col-

leagues said we should go to hospital. They knew we were practitioners

and worried for us because they didn't know the law of Fa. But no matter

what they said, my spouse never did it."②

"After half a year of practice, I started to purify my body and my lips

had had ulcer for several months. Others said I had suffered from exces-

sive internal heat, but I knew it was because of physical purification and I

didn't feel much pain. When the illness karma was in the form of fever, I

sneezed and then realized that this was a way to get rid of the evil things

in my body. Master helped me to keep good things and to get rid of bad

things. One day, I had a fever. I thought to myself that I didn't get the truth

and the fever would surely be gone soon. I usually had those rice-like

things on my head and I knew that was the secretion of those bad things

in my body, my head itched so much but I knew the illness karma on my

head would soon be eliminated. One time, I had this bad pain of trigemi-

nal, I had fever and felt very cold, but I told myself: I could manage all the

tests and all the difficulties."①

"One of my teeth ached all of a sudden this April and the sending

forth righteous thoughts just couldn't help a bit; I couldn't fall into asleep

because of the ache... There was nothing I could do to stop the ache.

Since sending forth righteous thoughts could do nothing about it, I started

to turn inward for help and since I couldn't fall asleep, I got up to learn

Dafa or to practice it more."②

Falun Gong published on its official website on August 4, 2006, an ar-

ticle titled :

. According to the article, a kid had a

high fever, the mother, a Falun Gong practitioner, practiced Falun Gong in

hopes of helping the kid fighting against the fever instead of seeking medi-

cal help. In the end, her 20-month-old baby "had four convulsions from the

midnight till the noon of the next day."③

On February 12, 2008, Minghui published an article

, which said: "On the

afternoon of November 17, 2007, Xiaoge, my niece, said she didn't feel

well and wanted to lie down for a rest. Then she said she wanted to go to

toilet but fell on the floor when she arrived at the door. We put her on the

bed but she started to stare blankly in front of her shortly after that, both

legs becoming stiff. It seemed to us that she was going to die, but then

several practitioners and I talked to her, be it illness karma or the arrange-

ment of the Old Force or the persecution of the Evil Force, we shouldn't

accept it, we should believe in Master and ask for his help, and Xiaoge

would be just fine." Then the practitioners started to practice it in hopes of

"treating Xiaoge," but still she "passed out" for several times.①

On June 23, 2008, according to

, "Doudou had to pass the test of illness karma after we came to

Korea. She had high fever, her body ached, she had a sore throat and her

heart ached too. She cried when she couldn't stand it anymore, but still

she's been strong as always." Both her parents are practitioners, so in-

stead of sending the kid to hospital for professional help, they insisted that

the girl should "go to take part in the demonstration held on the second

day."②

So these practitioners really believe that to practice Falun Gong will

help them to cure the diseases, so they'd rather put up with the acute

pains or let the baby suffer four convulsions in half a day than seek any

professional help. In this sense, to practice Falun Gong not only brings

pains to themselves and their families but also put their lives and the lives

of their families at risk.

A practitioner in Yancheng city , Jiangsu province, refused to go to

hospital and finally committed suicide by cutting open an artery so as to

get away from all the pains; in one of his pocket, there's medicine that he

didn't dare to take when he's alive.③

In January 1997, Liu Yazhen, a retired worker of Zhaoyuan county

Speed-Setting Engine Plant in Heilongjiang province , felt that her legs

ached so much that she went to see a doctor. She was finally diagnosed

as psychoneurosis. After practicing Falun Gong, Liu refused to take any

medicine her family bought for her, telling them that: "Master doesn't want

me to take any medicine and he promises to help me when it's necessary."

Shortly after Liu refused to take medicine, the illness became increasingly

severe and she started to doubt Falun Gong. She talked to the counselor

but was told that this was because Master was eliminating Karma for her

and that she would be punished and there would be severe consequence

if she stopped practicing. With such a painful and lingering disease, Liu

couldn't bear it any longer and, leaving her last will to the family ,

drowned herself in a river on the midnight of June 29. In the letter Liu said:

"To practice Falun Gong makes me become a vegetable and Master

didn't come to me when I fell ill. I can't bear it anymore so I decide to

leave you."①

Mr. Li said, "Since we're guiding you down the true path, during

Triple-World-Law cultivation we're always purifying, purifying, and purifying

your body for you, all the way until it's completely transformed into

high-energy matter. But you're still bringing all that black stuff onto your

body要

how are you going to cultivate? That's karma! You won't be able

to cultivate one bit."②

"There's no way you'd succeed at true cultivation without my Law

Bodies' protection 要 the moment you stepped outside, maybe your life

would be at risk."①

"My Law bodies are aware of everything. Whatever you think about,

they're aware of it, and they can do anything."②

"While I just sit here I can see things in Beijing, things in the United

States, or things on the other side of the world."③

"When a life is truly weeded out it is horrific."④

While threatening those who dare to violate his teachings, Li Hongzhi

greatly encourages the practitioners sticking strictly to his teachings.

"How much Dafa disciples put in is how much they'll get out. Even an

average, ordinary being will, after bearing responsibility for the good things

and the bad things, be rendered in thefuture everything he accumulated."⑤

"In fact, cultivation is about coming here to suffer, not coming here to

be protected in the human world. When one studies Dafa he will be pro-

tected, but cultivating Dafa also requires one to endure suffering."⑥

"The principles of cultivators and those of ordinary people are oppo-

site. Human beings believe that a life of comfort is a good thing, while

Dafa disciples believe that having everything be easy is a bad thing when

it comes to their improvement and that discomfort is conducive to im-

provement."⑦

"Human beings think it's a bad thing to experience hardships. But suf-

fering hardships can reduce an ordinary person's karma and sins. When a

person endures a lot of hardship during his lifetime, he will receive bless-

ings in his next life."①

"Dafa disciples all know that enduring hardship eliminates karma, and

that it furthermore furnishes opportunities to improve oneself...When you

are able...make it through the right way, you will have overcome that test,

your level will have been raised, your realm will have elevated, and your

gong will have risen, right?"②

In this way, all Falun Gong practitioners believe that all their deeds

are under the strict supervision of Li Hongzhi, so they worry that to take

medicine or to get an injection will surely be punished by Li Hongzhi and

that all violating the teachings will be eliminated by Li. By the way, not to

get medical help would help them to improve their "Cultivation," that's why

they've been trapped in a vicious circle of "falling ill要 Cultivation要 falling

ill once again 要 more Cultivation." They've got no way to get away from

the trap set by Li Hongzhi and are willing to bear the sufferings caused by

illness, they'd rather kill themselves in the end than break the rules set up

by their Master.

3.4 Li Hongzhi's explanations to the deaths

of his faithful disciples

Many Falun Gong practitioners died and this caused great turmoil

and upset among those still alive. More and more practitioners ask LiHongzhi, "Why would there be Falun Gong practitioners dying of illness?"

And here are some of the explanations provided by Li Hongzhi:

"From the perspective of cultivation, for a person to rise above ordi-

nary people, he has to get rid of all human attachments, and that's how

the old forces took advantage of this and arranged all those things. For in-

stance, they arranged for certain students to appear sick at certain times,

and for certain students to depart first at a certain time. The old forces ar-

ranged for some people they picked to come in [to Dafa]. Those people

seem to be cultivating Dafa, and some even appear very diligent, but in

fact they came in under the old forces' arrangements to enable those

things to happen when the time came . It was the old forces' intention all

along to weed out those beings . So, they made them commit sins by

doing things that would interfere with Dafa 要 that's the role they wanted

them to play. Of course, they only did that with the beings they'd selected

for elimination. Among my Dafa disciples there are some who were used

and deceived by them in the past, for example, [they might have said] 'for

you to reach Consummation you'll have to do such and such at such and

such time.' There are cases like that. That's why the true and fake ones

are mixed together, and it's difficult to tell right away which ones have

come to stir up trouble and which ones are Dafa disciples."①

"Many were Dafa disciples deceived by them, while some were ar-

ranged by them; they all agreed to it at some point in history, and that is

why it's hard to handle. Also, while being persecuted, they weren't clear-

headed or rational, and didn't remember that they were Dafa disciples, nor

could they remember Master, as if it were all just human beings persecut-

ing other human beings. Plus, they were arranged that way by the old

forces back in history, so they couldn't reject it. You tell me, how do you

handle that?"②

"Cultivation and Dafa are solemn, and they can turn human beings in-

to gods. The old forces can't stand that, so they want to test you. They

want to see if you will still say Dafa is good and stay and cultivate when

they have people pass away who have reached the end of their life spans.

The old forces have done that, so when a student faces life-threatening

danger, you can't say that he is not good or that he has some serious

problems. That is actually the old forces creating a disturbance by taking

advantage of human attachments."①

"It's likely the old forces will lead him to have problems and even

make him leave us early in order to test other students."②

"If certain students can't manage to get rid of long-standing attach-

ments inside themselves, they can be persecuted and interfered with.

[They might think,] 'I've been doing the exercises, and my illnesses have

been cured. I feel so good. My life has become easier.' Their understand-

ing always remains at that level and they can't understand the Fa on the

basis of the Fa, and that makes it easy for problems to come up."③

"Cultivation is a serious matter. That test of one's mind is a black or

white issue. The more attached you are, the worse you will feel. When

you go to the hospital for an examination you will be made to see that your

illness has gotten worse. Yet you still don't enlighten to it. Since you still

don't enlighten to it, it becomes more and more serious, and in the end

you truly can't make it. That happens because you are not a genuine stu-

dent, you don't study the Fa, and you can't let go of your attachment to

your illness. You are just an ordinary person who wants to get his illness

cured...If you can truly cultivate, when you can truly let go of your attach-

ment to living or your fear of death 要 and not just act that way for others

to see while constantly thinking about it inside要 then no matter what kind

of illness you have, it will be cured."①

"If that person still doesn't get it after being given chances for so long,

even if he has cultivated for years and has followed others in doing Dafa

work, if he still can't let go on a fundamental level of his attachment to

getting healed, then on a fundamental level he is still not a student, and he

will depart when he reaches the end of his lifespan."②

"As for deceived Dafa disciples, there's no doubt about it, Consum-

mation is for sure."③

"Regardless of whether my Dafa disciples were killed as a result of

persecution or departed this world as a result of being persecuted by the

old forces during this period of time, they have all reached Consumma-

tion."④

Whether or not some Falun Gong practitioners really reached con-

summation and became Buddha and God or not, no one knows, for all

that we can see are cold cadavers.

In this sense, as for Li Hongzhi, the death of Falun Gong practitioners

has nothing to do with either his theory or the practicing of Falun Gong.

3.5 Li Hongzhi takes medicine instead of

taking a chance

When Li Hongzhi worked at Changchun State-Owned Cereals andOils Company, he and his daughter used to get medical services and

there were a total of 73 reimbursement receipts for the purpose, among

which 48 were for medical services gained by Li Hongzhi.①

From 1982 to1992 when Li Hongzhi worked at the Security Division of Changchun

State-owned Cereals and Oils Company, he sought medical services in a total of seven

hospitals including Changchun Hospital, Changchun People's Hospital, No. 208 PLAHospital, and Changchun Chaoyang District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

And this is the signature of Li Hongzhi on one of the reimbursement receipts.

In 1984, Li Hongzhi was hospitalized for surgery due to acute puru-

lent appendicitis; in other words, the method of treatment by "eliminating

Karma" proposed by Li Hongzhi wasn't applicable to himself and he re-

fused to risk his own life to test the correctness of his own "eliminating

Karma" theory.①

just as you are...Nothing in the Fa I've taught says that the Master must

go through grueling cultivation just as cultivators do...Divine beings who

save people come down to rescue them, so they can't be the same as hu-

even a bit? It was human beings' karma weighing them down...Divine be-

ings who save people really can't be the same as those being saved. Say

someone has fallen into a mud pit: would it make sense for him to refuse

help if I offered to pull him out, and he insisted, 'You have to jump in here

and be like me before I'll let you save me'? There's no such thing."①

Therefore, the reason why Falun Gong practitioners refuse medical

help is that Falun Gong makes them lose basic ability of telling right from

wrong and because they've been confused and manipulated by Li Hongzhi

and his theory on "Cultivation" and they are no longer the master of them-

selves.

Chapter 4 Is Human Life Still PricelessFalun Gong leads followers to suicide and homicide






As far as a human being is concerned, life is undoubtedly priceless.

People with common sense regard killing as an extremely irrational

behavior and believe that the killer should be held responsible legally and

economically for the death. But the obsessed Falun Gong practitioners

have their own interpretation of suicide and killing which are totally differ-

ent from that of "the ordinary people," and to make things worse, they put

their idea into actions.

In 1998, Ma Jianmin, a retired worker at the age of 54 in Hebei

province, killed himself with scissors in order to seek for the wheel of law

which Li Hongzhi claimed was installed in the abdomen of each Falun

Gong practitioner.①

On January 23, 2001, the New Year's Eve, seven Falun Gong

practitioners, including a 12-year-old girl among the five females, burnt

themselves at Tian'anmen Square, which caused one female to die on the

spot. One month later, her 12-year-old daughter Liu Siying also died of serious burn complication.②

In April 2004, eight-year-old Dai Nan was regarded as a demon and

was choked to death before over 40 Falun Gong practitioners by her

mother Guan Shuyun from Yichun city of Heilongjiang province.①

people died of practicing Falun Gong, among which, 136 people

committed suicide and many innocent people were killed by Falun Gong

practitioners. Today, the number of fatalities brought about by Falun Gong

has declined sharply, but far from zero.

Then, why do some people, who used to be normal, choose to

commit suicide or kill others after they have practiced Falun Gong for a

certain period of time?

4.1 Falun Gong led its followers to suicide

4.1.1 Practitioners wishing to keep fit would soon find out

that "Cultivation Practice" is far more complicated than they

have expected.

Falun Gong made its debut in the form of a Qigong exercise and was

flourishing in the late 1980s when all forms of Qigong schools sprang up

all over China. Li Hongzhi was working for State-Owned Cereals and Oils

Company in Changchun and, caught up in the nationwide promotion of

Qigong, took classes in two of its disciplines. He later combined them with

elements of Thai dance to create the school notoriously known as the

Falun Gong. Before December 1994, Li Hongzhi had charged fees for his

healing sessions ranged between scores and hundreds of Renminbi. Falun

Gong practitioners were ordinary Qigong enthusiasts, they joined in and

began to practice Falun Gong with a hope to improve health and keep fit.

Later on something went wrong with Li Hongzhi and his Qigong. Li

changed his mind and abandoned his plan of making money by holding

training courses or "healing sessions of Gong."

In August 1994, Falun Gong adherent Li Shulin from Liaoning

province suffered a cerebral thrombosis. He implored Li Hongzhi to send

out Qi to revive him in vain; then died a few days later.①

To totally eliminate the potential risks arising from "healing sessions

of Gong," Li Hongzhi published a book titled in 1994. This

book, a compilation of Li's remarks on "Cultivation Practice" of Falun

Gong in the past, established the fundamental principles for Falun Gong

practitioners to abide by.

From then on, besides practicing dancing-like movement drills, Falun

Gong followers have to strictly observe the rules Li Hongzhi stipulated in

, the teachings Li later on mentioned in Fa-teaching occa-

sions and innumerable other "Scriptures." For Falun Gong practitioners,

whoever dares to violate these rules or betray Li Hongzhi, would be, in Li's

own words, severely punished or even "destroyed body and soul" and "put

into hell."

4.1.2 Thoroughly imbued with Falun Gong "doctrines," the

practitioners lose judgment and the ability to reason by and by.

Some suffer from mental disorders.

Most practitioners wish to keep their bodies strong or cure illness by

practicing Falun Gong just as they do with other kinds of Qigong. Yet un-

der the guidance of "One and the only one way" doctrine and absolute

one-way information receiving, the practitioners practice Falun Gong at

lest twice a day, they are asked to read Master's books, listen to his tapes

and watch his videos whenever they have time so as to "advance" in the

Fa studies. In fact, some disciples are totally sealed off by Falun Gong

teachings and lose interests in doing or thinking about other things. As

time goes by, the practitioners get accustomed to hypnotic practices and

their minds are full of Falun Gong heresies. Eventually they are complete-

ly brain-washed to lose judgment and the ability to reason. Furthermore,

under intensified inculcation and strong temptation of "Remove Karma,"

"Get into a higher level" and "Reach Consummation," many Falun Gong

practitioners have difficulty in controlling themselves: some suffer from il-

lusion or other mental disorders; a few of them are totally out of mind and

kill themselves.

Shi Shuyan, female, a peasant lived in Southeast Camp village,

Dongguang town, Dongguang county, Hebei province. In March 1999, she

began to get obsessed with Falun Gong and became absentminded. Ab-

surd behaviors followed as the result. On May 1, 1999, she told others

while practicing Falun Gong that, she could go to Paradise after digging

out the "pellet" in her mouth. And later on her mouth was full of blood. On

the early morning of May 3, Shi tried again to dig out the "pellet" from her

mouth in room. Shi told her husband she would ascend to Paradise in 40

minutes, and let him wait outside. When her husband got in, Shi was lying

on the ground with blood all over her body, a kitchen knife was found be-

side her. Shi told her husband in faint voice that she had got the "pellet"

out with the knife. Other Falun Gong practitioners in the village hurried in

hearing of the news. Instead of sending Shi to the hospital, the fellow

practitioners took out Li Hongzhi's portrait to "cow the demons." At 6

o'clock in the morning, Shi was carried to the county hospital but it was

too late. She died of excessive loss of blood at an age of 49.

Dong Zhi, female, a foreign language teacher with a college diploma,

used to work diligently at Tianming Xili Primary School in Tianjin. Dong

began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Early in 1997, Dong showed ab-

normality in behavior: she was absentminded, unwilling to attend class

and did not correct papers for her students. Her family members found

her Kowtow at home several times. On the morning of December 5, 1997,

Dong Zhi committed suicide by jumping off a building at the age of 24.

Kang Caiye, female, worked as an assistant at the Guangkelong

Shop of Nanda Corporation, Xicheng district in Guangzhou. Kang was a

warm-hearted worker with keeping herself busy in her work all the time,

enjoying great popularity among colleagues, and winning golden opinions

from customers. In 1998, Kang began to practice Falun Gong and she

changed dramatically ever since. She was absentminded while working,

and frequently made mistakes in collecting money, doing accounts, and

selecting commodity for customers. Her leader and colleagues were all

concerned about her and offered to help. But she refused and replied: "I

am OK because I'm practicing Falun Gong." On October 10, 1998, Kang

suddenly went mad while taking stock: She cried and laughed, scattered

commodities on the ground and ran away...Her colleagues searched high

and low trying to find her, but to no avail. At about 2 pm, the Security Divi-

sion of Nada Corporation was informed by local police station: Kang

jumped into Zhujiang River from a place near the Aiqun Building. From

the handbag she left, people found a mini tape recorder and some tapes

with Falun Gong teachings.①

Gao Encheng, male, a cadre from Industrial and Commercial Admin-

istration Office at Tianbai township, Kai county in Chongqing, was the

head in charge of a Falun Gong practice spot. In November 1997, Gao

began to practice Falun Gong together with his wife. And his frank and

open personality changed completely: He became a man of few words

and less socialized, and firmly believed that by practicing Falun Gong peo-

ple would "go to Paradise" and "their souls go with them" after they were

dead. On November6,1998, Gao quarreled loudly with others when he was

attending a meeting held by his unit: "I won't argue with you everyday peo-

ple. No body but Gao Xiong, my own son really understands me!" After the

meeting, Gao returned home and practiced Falun Gong, then he jumped

off the building from 4th floor, holding his son tightly in the arms. His col-

leagues called doctors immediately for emergency treatment. But his wife

Li Xiaofen refused to do so, saying Master Li Hongzhi would protect the

two. At last, the doctors saved Gao Xiong's life; but the father, Gao

Encheng, "all rescue measures proved ineffectual," died at the age of 42.①

4.1.3 Apart from mental disorders, Li Hongzhi's fallacies on

human body and life are the major causes and catalyst which

lead the practitioners into committing suicide.

"From another perspective, however, Earth is but the garbage dump

"A person's earliest life comes from the universe...In which some

people may develop selfishness and gradually their level will be lowered. If

they cannot stay at this level, they must drop down further. At that level,

however, they may again become not so good and not be able to stay

there, either. They will continue to descend further until, in the end, they

reach this level of human beings...From the perspective of supernormal

abilities or of the great enlightened beings, these lives should have been

destroyed upon falling to this level."①

"Such is the state of the entire planet; everything has in fact degener-

ated to a grave extent."②

"In this enormous universe, Earth looks just like an apple which has

become rotten inside and out. Just like every individual human being, ev-

ery particle inside of this apple is rotten."③

"In regard to humans, when this cultivation ends, this environment

won't be needed anymore. The humans that are left over will be vile hu-

man beings...; when humans aren't good they are eliminated."④

"Some lives became bad as the universe evolved, and yet they

couldn't be destroyed. Plans were therefore made so that they could im-

prove themselves and assimilate again to the universe. They were sent to

a lower level to bear some hardship and improve themselves. Later on

people kept coming to that level. Then a division happened at that level.

Then people whose character had deteriorated could no longer remain at

that level, and so another, even lower, level was created. It went on like

this with lower and lower levels gradually getting differentiated, up until the

level that today's human race occupies was generated. That is the origin

of today's human race."⑤

"Mankind's moral values have undergone enormous changes. They

are sliding downward a thousand miles a day, so quickly. With the erosion

of their values, people have actually come to believe that the ancients

were ignorant and superstitious. Man's thinking has changed dramatically,

and it is frightening."⑥

"Man's drastic moral decline is unfolding throughout the world.

People's notions have changed dramatically."⑦

"So today's human society... to be frank, I can tell you that gods no

longer consider humans human. Think about it: Aren't humans in a dan-

gerous state?"①

"Yet the morality of ancient people was much higher than that of to-

day. People today think that ancient people weren't good. Actually, that's

because you're viewing ancient people with modern people's degenerate

notions."②

"People became bad and dropped here where humankind is要 to this

earth."③

Lived in Qiqihar city, Heilongjiang province, Xu Huijun began to prac-

tice Falun Gong in 1998. Since then she became eccentric and totally dis-

carded family affections. On May 31, 1999, she jumped off a building and

killed herself to escape the so called "predestined fate," leaving her family

broken-hearted.④

Gao Wenhui, female, 52 years old, had received a junior grade

school education, lived in Jiangjia village, Lutou township of Longkou city

in Shandong province. Before 1997 Gao was basically healthy although

she suffered a slight neurasthenic. In 1997 Gao began to practice Falun

Gong. She once told her husband, "I met Master Li Hongzhi in dreams

and he asked me to go to Paradise 要 he tried to draw me from Heaven

while others pushing me up from beneath. But they failed just because I

had not studied the Fa well enough." In the autumn of 1998, Gao showed

more and more abnormalities in behavior and intelligence: she often told

others that the Doomsday was coming and the earth would soon be de-

stroyed. She left home unexpectedly several times, and tried to kill herself

by crushing with vehicles but was stopped. On June 28, 1999 when her

family members were all out, Gao locked herself in the house and took

her own life by taking the poisonous DDVP.①

Wang Jun, male, was born on February 20, 1967, a worker in Yantai

Wooden Clock Factory, lived in No.16-4 Zhongxing street, Zhifu district,

Yantai city, Shandong province. In the winter of 1996, Wang began to

practice Falun Gong and changed quickly in temperaments: he became

less and less interested in his job and careless about his family. Once

Wang was absent from work for several consecutive days and leaders of

his workshop sent colleagues to visit his family and offer help. Calling at

the door to be let in, his colleagues found Wang was practicing Falun

Gong, with Falun Gong books around him and Li Hongzhi's portrait hung

on the wall. Since then, his moral plummeted and became disheartened

and world-weary. He told his wife several times: "I will go to Paradise and

become an Immortal." One day in the last ten-day of April 1998, Wang ran

away from home and the next morning, people found that he hung himself

at the Nanshan Mountains.②

means the practitioners accomplish their cultivation and become what Li

called "Buddha, Dao and God," then they will enjoy themselves in Par-

adise forever. For Falun Gong disciples, the temptation of Consummation

is too strong to resist. To go to Paradise is the ultimate goal they have

been dreaming of, and they have done so much painstaking practices for

it.

Li Hongzhi asks his followers to let go of "life and death," and "worldly

attachments (including to their bodies)," and instigates Dafa disciples to

set against the government even at the expense of their lives.

"When a person dies, only the layer of the largest molecules 要 the

human shell or this layer of molecules on the surface 要 dies and falls

away from this dimension. How could your real body that's composed of

microscopic matter die?"①

"Even if a Dafa cultivator truly casts off his human skin during the

persecution, what awaits him is still Consummation."②

"At the very moment of death they did not feel scared; on the con-

trary, they suddenly felt a sense of relief, with some sort of subconscious

excitement. Some people felt free from the bondage of the body and

could levitate very lightly and wonderfully."③

"In this cosmos, 99.9 percent of the numerous cultivation ways in the

past and heavenly paradises in different cosmic bodies didn't need bod-

ies. Not everyone thinks so favorably about having a flesh body. Many

heavenly paradises absolutely will not let you bring a body when you re-

turn there. If you took your body along, you would be disrupting the Fa

there."④

In August 2000, Li Hongzhi told in his theory

, "It is in fact time to let go of your last attachments. As cultiva-

tors, you already know that you should, and in your actions you have, let

go of all worldly attachments (including the attachment to the human body)

and have made it through the process of letting go of life and death." He

required the disciples to "let go of all worldly attachments (including the at-

tachment to the human body)," stirred up the followers fight against the

Government no spare with their lives.

"If you can let go of life and death, you're a God; if you can't let go of

life and death, you're a human."①

"Whether they were detained or lost lives for practicing Dafa, they all

have reached Consummation."②

Zheng Xiaoyan, a former obsessed Falun Gong follower, lived in

Tancheng county, Shandong province , who refused to change mind by

cutting wrist in the past. She told people after getting out of the disen-

gagement of Falun Gong: "The reason (the practitioners) commit suicide

is that, they all believe in Li Hongzhi's words that those who really get rid

of human skin because of persecution can reach Consummation."③

Liu Pinqing, male, 58 years old, chief of the Agricultural Technology

Promotion Station at Gushan town, Donggang city in Liaoning province. In

1988, he was introduced into practicing Falun Gong by his neighbor, and

obsessing about it later on. Liu told fellow practitioners many times, "Mas-

ter asked me to become a Buddha by burning myself." On February 4,

1999, about 5 pm, Liu opened the gas valves at home and set himself on

fire. Fortunately, he was found by neighbors and then hospitalized. In the

hospital, Liu refused to receive medical treatment, claiming they practi-

tioners did not need medicine because their Master would protect them.

As for the reason why he was not dead, Liu explained that his Master

wanted him to live and "remove Karma." Four days later Liu returned

home from the hospital. But he would tell others, his Master asked him to

"jump into a well and become a Buddha." He kept asking neighbors to

rope him tight and then throw him into a well, saying his Master would pre-

vent him from being drowned. Of course, his neighbors refused to do so.

Knowing that Liu was bewitched by Falun Gong and suffered from mental

disorders, his family members guarded him closely because he was al-

ways trying to find a chance to "become a Buddha." On April 27, 1999, Liu

took advantage of his family's negligence in the early morning, drowned

himself in a well near his house.①

On July 3, 1999, Li Jinzhong, a peasant from Sidi village, Beigang

town, Tunliu county in Shanxi province and Chang Haochi, a student from

Economic & Trade Department of the Shanxi Coal Management Cadres

Institute, all firmly believed they had already "accomplished the Gong cul-

tivation" and therefore they were able to "go to Paradise with Perfection."

The two sit face to face in an open ground outside the Sidi village, and

burnt themselves to death.②

On February 16, 2001, Tan Yihui, a Falun Gong practitioner from

Changde city, Hunan province, set himself on fire with gasoline and com-

mitted suicide near the Wanshou Road, Haidian district in Beijing . Tan

began to practice Falun Gong in the first half of 1999. His mother told

people, "I admonished my son earnestly, tried to persuade him into giving

up Falun Gong and not to be possessed by the evil. But he turned a deaf

ear to my words and said he would ascend to Paradise after he accom-

plished the cultivation. He tried to get his younger brother into practicing

the same thing, but I stopped him."①

Jiang Chaojun, male, was born on June 7, 1954, his family came

from Jiangwan village, Shantoufang town, Xiangcheng county, Henan

province. His wife Jiang Xiuxia, was born on October 16, 1957. In 1989,

the couple moved to Zhong village, Pingyang town, Jidong county in Hei-

longjiang province, and then settled down. They had a son and a daughter

with a warm and sweet though not very rich family life. In November 1997,

they began to practice Falun Gong and soon were obsessed by it: they

gave up farming and paid no attention to their children. On December 3,

1997, bewitched by Li Hongzhi's fallacy of "One can go to Paradise by

practicing Falun Gong", Jiang Chaojun and Jiang Xiuxia left home and

carried each other on back in shift, holding the pose of "Ascension"...After

about one or two kilometers, both failed to take off. Then they returned

home. In order to get into Paradise and become immortals, Jiang Chaojun

cruelly stabbed his wife's abdomen and mouth with a sharp knife, and

killed her; Jiang himself committed suicide later, turning their 13-year-old

daughter and 10-year-old son into orphans.②

"There are altogether two major levels (excluding practicing qi). One

is In-Triple-World-Fa cultivation practice, while the other is

Beyond-Triple-W orld-Fa cultivation practice...in the

course of In-Triple-World-Fa cultivation practice one's body will be con-

stantly purified, it will be completely replaced by the high-energy matter

when one reaches the highest form of In-Triple-World-Fa."①

"Human cells are being gradually replaced by high-energy matter, the

aging process slows down... transforming gradually,... your body will have

been entirely transformed into another kind of physical body... And your

body will never degenerate."②

"Cultivators will gain protection from my Law Bodies (Fashen) when

they accept my Falun Dafa teachings and truly cultivate. As long as you

persevere in cultivation, my Law Bodies will protect you until you reach

Perfection. Should you decide to stop cultivating at some point, my Law

Bodies will depart."③

"To do is practice while following the standards of a practitioner.

There's no need for me to personally give you a Falun and Law Body, as

you will get everything...This is that a student of mine taught you, and all

of my students have the protection of my Law Bodies...I have countless

Law Bodies that can protect the students, so everyone that truly cultivates

will be protected...this is guaranteed."④

"My Law bodies are aware of everything. Whatever you think about,

they're aware of it, and they can do anything."⑤

"When a practitioner is about to run into troubles, my Fashen will dis-

solve such things for you and not let them occur. He may also drop you a

Feng Shaobao, male, was born on March 15, 1959, used to be a

worker at Xinhua Shipyard in Nanjing. In 1995, Feng began to practice

Falun Gong, then served as the instructor of a Falun Gong practice spot.

And gradually, he became mentally deranged. He told his child, "Our Dafa

disciples die hard," and asked his child to have a try on his body with a

knife. He wrote in his diary: "Who are our relatives? Our real parents are

looking at us from Paradise, they expect us to return home. We all want to

go back." Bewitched and poisoned by Falun Gong, Feng had absurd illu-

sions: he took the raccoon pictures which his daughter had put on a small

mirror as monsters, and tore them into shreds; he even tried to scrape off

the picture of an elephant on his daughter's pencil-box with sandpapers.

OnJuly10,1998,Feng locked himself in a house and committed suicide by

hanging. After his death, his wife said that before his death, Feng told her:

"If I have been off for 48 hours and do not return, then you people do not

bother to look for me要 I am definitely arriving in Paradise at that time."①

Sun Jie, male, was born on May 1, 1963, came from Hua county in

Shaanxi province, graduated from Jiuquan Teachers Colleges in 1982. In

1985, Sun was transferred to No. 803 Power Plant of the Provincial Power

Bureau, and worked as duty officer at Chemical Operation Division of the

Power Generation Department, assistant engineer. Being an introvert,

Sun worked hard in the plant. He began to practice Falun Gong in August

1995. On April 26, 1999, about 4 pm Sun Jie burned himself at home.

People found him sitting cross-legged, holding a tape recorder, with books

of Falun Gong under his right armpit. According to Sun's wife, Sun once

said, "I have been enlightened by Master's words since last year: perse-

vere in cultivation, I am sure that some day I'll go to Paradise, become a

Buddha and live forever."①

Little by little, the disciples are led astray by Li Hongzhi's temptation

of reaching Consummation. But human life becomes less and less impor-

tant in their eyes. Some even regard human life as an obstacle standing in

their way to Paradise. So they discard all the worldly attachments includ-

ing their own lives by means of self-burning, jumping off buildings etc. As

a result, tragedies of self-killing strike the world time and again.

Yet when so many Dafa disciples ran into dangers, the Law Bodies

of Master Li showed no magic power at all. Among the dead,

Feng Lili and Li Guodong died of cancer; Zhang Mengye died of traffic ac-

cident. The three were all Falun Gong backbones outside China. And

many more Dafa disciples died of practicing Falun Dafa!

4.2 Falun Gong led its followers to homicide

Compared with those disciples who died of Falun Gong practice,

more innocent people (some are relatives of Falun Gong followers) who

had little or nothing to do with Falun Gong were also killed by it.

4.2.1 Li Hongzhi doesn't value human life as others do.

Li Hongzhi borrowed many concepts from Buddhist when he created

the "creed" of Falun Gong. As is well known, it is highly forbidden for Bud-dhists to kill livestock, let alone human life. However, according to Li

Hongzhi's theory, Falun Gong practitioners needn't follow this command-

ment strictly.

your feet and get stepped on and killed, then maybe they were supposed

to die...When there are flies and mosquitoes in our homes we can drive

them out and install screens to keep them from getting in. But if you can't

drive them out sometimes, it's okay to kill them."①

"The First Emperor of Qin killed many people in the course of unifying

China. He killed the rulers of many states, and everyone cursed him...It

was the outcome of celestial changes. Had he not acted in accord with the

will of Heaven, he would not have succeeded and unification would have

failed. Human affairs are thus no more than that. As cultivators we never

comment on them. A cultivator will not take an interest in politics, lest he

be a politician, not a cultivator...When mankind reaches a certain point in

time, its karma is enormous, and it is beyond redemption. Enormous kar-

ma such as that is something man can never pay off. He accumulates,

over the course of many lifetimes, karma so massive that it is impossible

to pay off, and thus these people are destined to be destroyed. What is

meant by 'be destroyed'? Small disasters take place and destroy people.

War is the most expedient way, and that's why history is what it is."②

Li Hongzhi demanded his disciples repeatedly to do well "three

things." One of them was to "send forth righteous thoughts" to "wipe out

the devils in other spaces." Li Hongzhi once said that bad things in the

other space were also spirits and had lives. Consequently, the idea "send-

ing forth righteous thoughts" initiated by Li Hongzhi was actually the syn-

onym of "killing others."

"Sending righteous thoughts, that's eliminating those hopeless, filthi-

est beings' persecution of Dafa disciples."③

"All Dafa disciples, new and veteran students alike: when you send

righteous thoughts, besides the targets that you specifically lock in to, aim

directly at those dark minions and completely eliminate them."④

Instigated openly and strengthened continually by Li Hongzhi, those

who were besotted with Falun Gong set little by others' lives; some of

them go to such an extent as to kill people to "wipe out the devils" and to

"save people."

4.2.2 Some people are considered as "devils" hindering the

cultivation and killed cruelly by Falun Gong practitioners.

"The wretched demons just deserve to be killed."①

"Since humans have come to this stage, demons certainly won't allow

it when people want to obtain the Fa 要 they'll obstruct you...All kinds of

factors are at work acting as a kind of obstruction."②

"I've got to tell you, in the end there will still be many beings that can't

be saved要 they're doomed to be weeded out."③

"If the evil has already reached the point where it is unsavable and

unkeepable, then various measures at different levels can be used to stop

it and eradicate it...Completely eliminating the evil is for Fa-rectification,

and not a matter of personal cultivation."④

On August 23, 1996, Wang Xuezhong, a Falun Gong practitioner

from Jiahe county, Hunan province, thought his father was a devil and cut

his father 17 times on the head, in the neck and the chest and killed him

on the spot.①

On the night of February 25, 1998, when Wu Deqiao, a native of

Jiangsu province, was practicing Falun Gong at home, his wife dissuaded

him. Wu thought his wife was a "devil" interfering in his cultivation and

killed her with a kitchen knife.②

On April 8, 1998, Wang Anshou, a worker from Shandong province,

was dissuaded by his father when he was practicing Falun Gong. Wang

thought that his father was a demon and beat him to death with a spade.③

On March 20, 1999, Li Ting, a Falun Gong practitioner of less than 18

years old from Chengde city, Hebei province, considered his parents as

devils. In order to "wipe out the devils," Li Ting killed cruelly his own par-

ents at home.④

On February 20, 2001, Wei Zhihua, a Falun Gong practitioner from

Longgang district, Shenzhen city of Guangdong province, realized the vi-

cious nature of Falun Gong and swore "never to be Li Hongzhi's disciple

again." More than a dozen obsessed Falun Gong practitioners including

her husband thought she was a "devil" damaging reputation of the "Dafa."

As a result, they bound her and covered her mouth and nose in cold

blood. Wei Zhihua was suffocated to death.⑤

4.2.3 Influenced by Li Hongzhi's remarks of "saving people,"

some Falun Gong practitioners "save people" by killing them.

"If a large being is killed by someone, then that person's sins and kar-

ma become enormous, especially when it's a human being who is killed.

So when someone has generated such karma he has to pay it off...But as

for the very real, awful situation the beings are in, their painful enduring,

and their material loss after they are killed, the cultivator will have to, in

the process of consummating everything of his own, save those beings or

repay them with blessings using the fruits of his cultivation. Then from that

perspective, the compensation the killed beings receive far exceeds what

they would have received among humans. And this has thus settled

malevolent predestined relationships with benevolent solutions."①

"At the same time, a portion of the lives that you harmed will become

beings in the paradise you will have after you Consummation, so it will

turn into a good thing . If the to-be-harmed life knew , 'Oh, I'll go to a

Buddha's paradise in the future,' it would stretch its neck out to let you kill

it. It would happily, cheerfully let you kill it."②

"The Three Realms are the reverse of everything in the cosmos, so

the Fa's principles have also provided beings at this level with reversed

principles suitable for the existence of everyday people."③

Fu Yibin, a Falun Gong practitioner from Xicheng district, Beijing,

killed his father and his wife and wounded his mother seriously at his par-

ents' home at about 5 pm, November 25, 2001. According to Fu's confes-

sion, he "realized" that his father and family members should all "leave

this world" on the very afternoon of November 25; so he killed his father

and his wife and wounded his mother with a kitchen knife.①

From May 25 to June 27, 2003, strange homicides of poisoning hap-

pened one after another in Longgang town, Cangnan county, Zhejiang

province, 17 people were killed. 16 of them were beggars who died acci-

dentally in the streets. The other one was a Buddhist believer who died at

hospital after all possible rescue measures. What shocked the world was

that this series of homicides were committed by Chen Zhaofu, an ob-

sessed Falun Gong follower. According to Chen's confession, he killed

people time and again by poisoning because his master Li Hongzhi in-

structed him to do so. He heard his master telling him to "increase the

power of Gong by killing, save all sentient beings and reach the highest

level of cultivation." ②

person to death with an ax in Holand. He cruelly dissected the victim's

body and fried it so as to drive the victim's soul out of his flesh.①

4.3 Repayment for Falun Gong practitioners'

suicide and homicide

4.3.1 The Falun Gong practitioners who committed suicide

or homicide never obtain "Consummation" they dreamed of

while have to bear the social and legal liabilities for their murder.

On July 4, 1998, Chen Yong, vice director of Hainan General Training

Station of Falun Gong, andseven other key members had a traffic accident

on their way from Haikou to Sanya to spread Falun Gong with Chen

Yong and six other people dead and Zhang Yijun seriously wounded.

Li Hongzhi gave a holographic letter to Jiang Xiaojun, director of

Hainan General Training Station of Falun Gong, saying: "The eight

disciples of mine have reached Consummation in their own different

world." Zhang Yijun, the survivor of the accident, was listed together with

his seven dead fellow practitioners on the "list of canonization of the

gods " by Li Hongzhi. Zhang became the only living person who was

"recognized by the imperial order" of Li Hongzhi as the one who has

reached Consummation.②

At 14:41 on January 23, 2001, the eve of Chinese Spring Festival,

seven Falun Gong disciples from Kaifeng city , Henan province burnt

themselves at Tian'anmen Square in order to reach Consummation

advocated by Li Hongzhi. But Li Hongzhi flatly denied they were Falun

Gong disciples. Those disciples who died of the incident did not get even

be put on trial according to law impartially.

Lin Chunmei and Wen Yuping, two Falun Gong members went

secretly from Xinjiang to Xilanlu Coach Station in Xianyang city, Shaanxi

province on March 1, 2002. They strangled a 29-year-old waitress named

Mai working at Binhong Hotel to the south of the station with a nylon rope.

When the case was cleared up, Lin Chunmei was sentenced to death and

Wen Yuping life imprisonment.②

Jin Mingdong and three other Falun Gong members living in

Changchun city, Jilin province used extremely cruel method to "help" a

fellow Falun Gong practitioner named Xiao "to drive out the fox spirit" in

Xiao's body and tortured her to death in May, 2008. What is waiting for

them is penal sanction. ③

4.3.2 Facing the fact that many Falun Gong disciples died

of cultivation practice, Li Hongzhi shirked his responsibility

completely.

"He was quite keen on practicing...He even helped others learn the

Fa. But he didn't necessarily give it up himself 要 you don't know what was

on his mind."④

"If he could have truly cultivated, nobly and upright, and truly regarded

himself as a cultivator, I don't think that problem could have possibly come

about...Can a person fend off death just by doing the exercises daily, as if

they were average physical exercises? I'd say that's a joke. If he does the

exercises every day without improving his xinxing, I'd say his practice is

the same as doing your average physical exercises. But, even though it's

just a slight difference, it's difficult for him to change."①

"You might know that a few of our students passed away. Some of

them reached Consummation, while some [died to] do harm to us. So I

didn't make any comments on the matter or offer any explanation. Yet I

think those things were a test of life and death for our students."②

"I actually talked about this very early on, in . Some

students aren't diligent, but the time they put in learning Dafa will not be in

vain, and neither will the time they put in doing Dafa things. However

much they did, that's how much they will receive. The exception is those

who leave Dafa, particularly those who leave when Dafa is being

persecuted; if they pass away, [what I described] does not apply to them.

There is no hope there."③

"Of course, Dafa disciples won't die like ordinary people, and even for

those who've departed ahead of their time what awaits them is the very

best要 that's for sure."④

It is not accidental that Falun Gong disciples commit suicide or homi-

cide. This is because they are bewitched and dominated by Li Hongzhi

and his theory of Cultivation Practice. Seeing the deaths with his own

eyes, yet Mr. Li Hongzhi never admits that such tragedies have been

brought about by practicing Falun Gong.

4.4 Experts' view on Falun Gong practitioners'

suicide and homicide

Recently, a large number of Falun Gong practitioners suffer from

mental disorders or abnormal behaviors which bring about numerousdeaths. These occurrences have already drawn public attention to the is-

sue of Falun Gong. Experts and scholars both home and abroad express

their opinions on the phenomenon and warn people not to practice Falun

Gong.

Modern medicine doesn't deny the fact that autosuggestion might

cure some diseases and be good to health. But autosuggestion is

somewhat dangerous. Sometimes it causes delusion, visual hallucination,

and auditory hallucination. Those who have poor psychological traits and

self-control or those who suffer from serious setbacks and need self-

consolation may confuse the hallucinations with realities. This is the

so-called "possessed by the Demon." Giving free rein to it, they might go

mad. Therefore, serious schools of Qigong are all aware of this risk and

emphasize that people should practice Qigong under the guidance of a

master; otherwise, don't practice it by oneself. (I think those schools popu-

lar in China at the beginning of the 1980s are serious. They are not as ab-

struse as the later ones.) But Li Hongzhi categorically denies the phe-

nomenon of being possessed by the Demon. He tells others that the hal-

lucinations appearing during the process of cultivating Falun Gong are all

real existences. It shows that you've got into a higher space. The more

hallucinations you have the higher level you are at. He has many items

such as opening the Heavenly-Eye (that is, one can see what other can-

not see with their ordinary eyes) and "Three Flowers Gathering on the

Head" (that is, three flowers from "the other space" sprout on the head).

One can see nine colors including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo,

violet, chromatic color, and achromatic color when his or her power works.

One can also see the Falun world. Purposely advocating illusions or "be-

ing possessed by the Demon," Falun Gong is actually a kind of pseu-

do-Qigong which is opposed to the traditional Qigong. Under such circum-

stances, it is not at all surprising that the cultivators go mad one after an-

other. If someone really goes mad, Li Hongzhi will deny that the madman

has been a Falun Gong follower.①

Some graduate students in my institute also began to practice Falun

Gong. One of them was led to aberration and caught psychoneurosis be-

cause of practicing Falun Gong. He did not drink, eat, or speak. He even

did not go to bed. His symptom startled the leaders of our institute. They

sent the student to a mental hospital immediately. This shows that practic-

ing Falun Gong can easily cause psychopathy and attention should be

paid.

At the beginning of 1999, the editor of , a

periodical edited by the Educational College of Tianjin Normal University,

asked me to write a few words for the juvenile. After some consideration, I

wrote an article named . I

think it is what I really want to say to the juvenile. Because of my bad

impression of Falun Gong, I pointed out its two faults in the article. First, it

propagates feudal ideology and superstition and advocates "the law of

indestructibility of the soul." And second, it is easy to become "possessed

by the Demon" practicing Falun Gong. I cited the graduate in my institute

as an example.

In the article I emphasized that after being possessed and cured in

the lunatic asylum for the first time, the student continued to practice

Falun Gong and was obsessed again. This time he kept saying: "My mas-

ter Li Hongzhi pays close attention to me all the time." This shows clearly

that it is Falun Gong that led him to aberration.

The Institute of Theoretical Physics is a small one in the Chinese

Academy of Sciences. There are only 50 people in it. Over the past ten

years, two postgraduates caught psychoneurosis and broke off their

study. The recent one was the postgraduate who would not "drink, eat,

sleep, or speak." Finally he was sent to a lunatic asylum. When he was

discharged from hospital after recovery, he practiced Falun Gong again

and had a relapse. He kept saying "my master Li Hongzhi pays close

attention to me all the time" even when he was sent to the lunatic asylum

again.

Ever since I set against pseudo-Qigong, I have received nine reports

saying that their relatives committed suicide by jumping off buildings be-

cause of practicing Falun Gong. Eight of them died and one was wound-

ed. I felt it queer at first. Why did the Falun Gong practitioners commit sui-

cide by jumping off the buildings? Those who know the facts told me after-

wards that, according to Li Hongzhi, people practicing Falun Gong can live

without eating, summon winds and call for a rain; they can even mount the

clouds and ride the mist, and separate their souls from their bodies. In or-

der to seek the result of mounting the clouds and riding the mist, some of

the practitioners jumped from the balconies. Eight of them jumped from

the fourth or fifth floor and one from the second floor. Therefore, eight

died and one was wounded. But the wounded still refused obstinately to

listen to reason. He said: "I can't mount the clouds and ride the mist be-

cause my power of Gong is still insufficient." No one could be more igno-

rant than him.①

Li Hongzhi asserts that practicing "Falun Buddha dharma" can "open

the Heavenly-Eye," and makes practitioners see what common people

cannot see. He says: "Practitioners with high-level Heavenly-Eyes can see

through this pace into the other. They can see what the common people

cannot see. Even those with low-level Heavenly-Eyes have penetration

abilities and can see through walls and human bodies." ② Many Falun

Gong practitioners believe in these deceptive remarks, hoping that such

miracles happen to them after practice. But what really comes out is men-

tal disorder. According to staff at the No. 6 Hospital affiliated to Beijing

Medical University (the Institute of Pathergasiology), of all the patients

with mental disease arising from Qigong practice their hospital had re-

ceived in 1998, one fifth of them were caused by "deviations" when they

were practicing Falun Gong. Such patients with mental disorders were al-

so mentioned in the so-called survey made by Beijing General Training

Station of Falun Gong.①

One of the most basic human rights is the right of existence. If

people's health and existence are in question or even their lives are lost,

then it is pointless to mention other rights. The Falun Dafa fabricated by Li

Hongzhi, especially "the doctrine of removing Karma," tramples wantonly

on the citizens' rights of health and life...In order to fool Falun Gong practi-

tioners Li Hongzhi advocates the "doctrine of removing Karma" and incites

Falun Gong group to concoct false reports, cases of illness, and stories

about the magic effect of Falun Gong in curing disease and keeping

healthy. Among the over 1,400 people who died from practicing Falun

Gong, many lost their lives because they firmly believed in the magic pow-

ers of Falun Gong. More patients missed the opportunity for treatment

and their illness worsened...The fallacy cooked up by Li Hongzhi is com-

pletely gross nonsense against the elementary knowledge of science. Li

Hongzhi is very clear about this point. He and his family members attend

to the doctor and take medicines whenever they fall ill. Li Hongzhi himself

has undergone the operation of appendectomy at a hospital. It seems that

those Falun Gong practitioners deny treatment and medicine "all on their

own initiative." This seeming act of "on one's own initiative" is actually the

reflection of Li Hongzhi's mental control over his followers; it is also indi-

cating that the practitioners have totally lost self-consciousness. The

ringleader is Li Hongzhi. These practitioners are only the direct victims of

Li Hongzhi and his "Falun Dafa." What's more, Li Hongzhi viciously vilifies

those who died of practicing Falun Gong, saying they were "devils de-

structing the Dafa." He says in the book

: "It is the most difficult thing to distinguish this kind of devils. Their

destructive power is very strong. They also learn the Dafa... However they

died suddenly or go to the contrary to destruct Falun Dafa." ①

We often see that Falun Gong practitioners' way of thinking and be-

havior are different from common people. This is caused by Li Hongzhi's

fallacies...Li Hongzhi demands his disciples to read time and

again. He says every word in the Book is an embodiment of him and it will

come out of the Book if they keep reading. Eventually the practitioners

can separate their souls from their bodies...The practitioners run after this

exceptional result 要 and metal disorder occurs. This takes effect more

quickly on those who have received less education. After reading

only one week, many practitioners become mentally deranged and

run all around unmanageably. ②

To practice Falun Gong, the practitioners are required to follow the

so-called "methods of practicing Falun Gong " which have been

pieced together by Li Hongzhi. Spiritual shackles will be put on the practi-

tioners once they are hooked up by Falun Gong. Then they get stuck in

the mental entrapment. "Sitting there cultivating Gong" for a long time

without restraint may make the practitioners' autonomic nerves over excit-

ed and their bodies in a state of responding over a long period. The syn-

thesis and relief of neurotransmitters can lead to psychopathy, i.e. "to be

possessed by the Demon." Some practitioners may thus commit suicide

or homicide.①

(Falun Gong's) poses as a religious organization in very much the

way that the Church of Scientology has chosen to do, it is a group based

entirely on supernatural and pseudoscientific claims. A few of their outra-

geous claims serve to illustrate this. For examples, Li declares that he is

the greatest god in the universe and that the Earth is a "dustbin." All per-

sons, he says, will go to heaven if they follow him, and that his "magical

influence" will protect believers要 followers要 from dying in any car acci-

dents or in building collapses. He commands that if believers become ill,

they should not go to hospitals because Falun Gong can immediately cure

any diseases, and they would automatically become well. He even adver-

tises that he himself can fly in the air, etc... This man is simply another

scam artist, not worthy of the respect given him by his followers.②

I think in following or should I've, say, brainwashed by this group, they

have become a different person, I have to say. But what really alert me, or

what I'm really concerned about was that they abandoned needed medical

treatment. They used to use Chinese herbal medicine to treat their colds,

and it worked for them. After the Falun Gong, they stopped using that.

And their cold would last for two weeks or even more. And since 2000, mystepfather has had a very painful gout attack. We have medical insurance,

but he just refused to seek a medical help for that. I used to get into argu-

ment with them because I want them to, I want to push them. I want them

to see some medical help, please, you know. But it is usually going into

arguments with my parents. And, well, something did happen to my step-

father when my mother, my sister and I were traveling in China at the end

of 2001. He was home alone and he had a stroke. He was home alone for

five days. But during those five days, people came. And even though the

right side of his body was paralyzed, he was able to open the door for

them. But he did not ask for help. And on the day my sister returned. In

that morning my cousin had stopped by the house and found him very ill,

and asked him if he wanted to be taken to the hospital. He just shook his

head. I mean, he refused. And when my sister came back, she asked him

again, and he refused again. My sister had a cry and begged for him to go

to the hospital. When he went, he was in there for a month. And then

even with that, he did not change his mind. He did not seek help for his

painful gout attack until 2005.①
