Dear Neighbors,

We are undertaking an initiative to enhance and expand our programs and facilities that encourages physical activity and promotes healthy lifestyles while having fun. This initiative will be promoted using the slogan “Get Active. Be Healthy. Have Fun!” This will position us as your local source for opportunities to participate in physically stimulating activities that improve fitness and well being while promoting healthy lifestyle choices. We also believe you can have fun and enjoy yourself while you are active.

We all know that physical activity and exercise are good for us, but we don’t often follow through to incorporate it into our daily lives. We want to help you become more active by offering more choices for activities and facilities that will improve your fitness and that of your family as well. The pages of this issue of Splash! are full of opportunities to play hard, get fit and have fun.

We are also focused on helping you make healthy lifestyle choices. By enrolling in our programs or using our many fine parks and facilities, you are demonstrating your commitment to a healthier life. We plan to offer simple lessons and common sense advice on how to practice a healthier lifestyle. We also plan to partner with other agencies in our community to offer you more healthy choices. In particular, we are working with Atlantic General Hospital (AGH) to offer community health education programs at Northside park this fall.

Finally, we believe that staying active and being more health conscious can be sustained over time through fun. We want to be sure to build in fun and enjoyment in all the programs, services and facilities we offer. We will be investing more of our resources into activities that contribute to your well being and enjoyment. That’s why we have made this position our call to action: “Get Active. Be Healthy. Have Fun!”

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Shuster, CPRP Director of Recreation and Parks

Get wet for a great cause!

The Ocean Bowl Skatepark received a face-lift this spring just in time to welcome extreme Dew Tour athletes to Ocean City. The V e r t i c a l R a m p and Pool are like new and received r a v e r e v i e w s from the visiting professionals (check out the skate scene on the Ocean Bowl’s Facebook page).

The Vert Ramp is now a formidable 12 feet tall and 32 feet wide with 10 ½ foot transitions and 1 ½ feet of vertical. Its former steel surfacing has been replaced by new Skatelite Pro, the newest and best ramp surface material on the market today, and its transitions are clean and smooth.

The Pool, one of the park’s most unique features, got a serious smoothing over with new perfectly molded transition slopes, new stone coping and tile all in and around a smooth 8 ½ foot deep shell moving up to a 5 ½ foot deep shallow end. The new user-friendly dimensions have been a huge hit with skaters of all ability levels.

Don’t miss out on the excitement!visit the Ocean Bowl TODAY

at 3rd Street and St. Louis Avenue!
