Fall/Winter 2013 Activity Guide
PARKS, RECREATION & LIBRARY
Welcome!
Hooked on Little Elm fall/winter 2013
Dear Citizens and Friends,
On behalf of the Town Council and Staff, I am proud to present the current installment of Hooked on Little Elm Activity Guide.
It seems like only yesterday Town Staff provided the first edition of this exciting resource. Since its release, our Town has continued to expand its recreation and leisure programs at an incred-ible pace. This continued development will serve to provide even greater opportunity for an active, healthy and vibrant community.
Along with Hydrous Wake Park, which opened in June, a number of additional recreation-focused projects will commence in the coming weeks and months. These will include a major expansion of the Little Elm Recreation Center and the extension of our Lakefront Trail system, completing the portion between Cotton-wood Park on Lobo Lane and Veteran’s Memorial Bridge on Witt Road. Additionally, preparations are already underway to begin the expansion of the Swim Beach at Little Elm Park, opening Summer 2014.
Our Town’s commitment to providing a wide variety of recrea-tion options for residents of all ages and abilities will continue. As improvements proceed, we hope you and your family will enjoy all that Little Elm has to offer.
Thank You,
David Hillock
Mayor, Town of Little Elm

Cottonwood Nature Trail
Lobo Lane The Cottonwood Trail is a 1.5 mile rustic wood chip nature trail. It is located at the end of Lobo Lane. There are two trail heads that hikers can access; the first is located across the street from the Cottonwood Sports Complex; the second is located at the end of Hardwicke Lane. Starting at either trail head, hikers can navigate the entire trail system and numerous lake access points.
The trail guides hikers through one of the most pristine park areas. The trail is heavily canopied along the lake, leading into an open field of cedar trees. Hikers have been so impressed the trail system that the Little Elm Festival Association has donated $10,000 for improvements, signage and rustic benches.

The origin of the Nutcracker, a classic Christmas Story, is a fairy tale ballet in two acts centered on a family’s Christmas Eve celebration. Set to music by Tchaikov-sky and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, it premiered a week before Christmas 1892. Since prem-iering in western countries in the 1940s, this ballet has become perhaps the most popular to be performed around Christmas time. The story centers on a young girl’s Christmas Eve and her awakening to the wider world and romantic love.
