attended Farmfair and Canadian WesternAgribtionthisyear.I’d also like to take the opportunity to clarify afew things I’ve heard on Maple Syrup UrineDisease (MSUD) from BC members. The CHAboardreviewedaletterfromtheBCHAboardonsome concerns on the MSUD abnormality. Iaddressed most of these verbally at the BCHAmeeting, butforthosethatweren’tinattendanceherearethehighlights:
• The CHA website clearly displays allanimals that havebeen tested forMSUD,bothcarrierandfreetestedanimals, sincemandatorytestingwasimplemented.
• To find this listing, you must go to theAnimal Inquiry, use oneof the “Select if”boxes and select “Is a MSUD Carrier”.MSUDFreeanimalscannotbesearched.
• Keep in mind when you are lookingonline, if an animal has no MSUD resultlisteditsimplymeanstheanimalhasnotbeentestedforMSUD.Iftheanimalstates“MSUDF”theanimalhasbeentestedFree, and if the website states “MSUDC” theanimalisacarrier.
SomethingelsetorememberisaCanadian-bornbut American owned animals or an importedAmericananimalmayhavebeentested throughthe American Association. In this instance, theCHA does not have access to the abnormalitydata. Therefore, it will not show on the CHAonline system. If you would like to be 100%certain that an imported animal displaysabnormality results on the CHA website, youmust test theanimal throughtheCHA.TheCHAis developing an internal process to updateabnormality statuses of imported animalsperiodically, however you may want to testimportedanimalsthroughtheCHAlabtogettheresultinatimelierfashion.Hope to see many of you out at the fall showsandsales!
