THe ScANDINAVIAN TRAIL RuNNINg ALTeRNATIVeMany “trail running-shoes” are really asphalt shoes that have been given a rougher sole and upper. Icebug, on the other hand, is approaching trail running from the most extreme form of o� trail; using the knowledge we get from being the market leader in orienteering, the authentic, Scandinavian, form of trail running.

To o� er the best possible traction is still our aim, for fall/winter 2011/12 all Icebug footwear have special traction features, either in the design of the rubber sole w or BUGweb compatibility Q or the always full traction BUGrip W.

w gReAT TRAcTIONIcebug’s rubber soles are designed and engineered for giving best possible grip. The sole pattern has aggressive cleats that give multi directional traction. The rubber compound is relatively soft to grip well.

Q TRAcTION uP-gRADeDWhen it gets wet or icy and really slippery, relying on rubber alone is not su� cient to provide reliable foothold. For these conditions, Icebug has developed a traction system where the soles can be up-graded with six carbide tip studs. The BUGweb® fi ts into the pattern of all non-studded Icebug Active and Easy Street winter shoes, and also some in the Running category, adding six points of extreme traction: Two below the heel, two below the metatarsals and two below the toes.

W OuTSTANDINg TRAcTIONFor those refusing to compromise, the BUGrip® technology has between fi fteen and nineteen carbide car bide tip studs perma-nently mounted in the sole. The confi guration of the studs is tested for optimal position and the studs have a dynamic function, which means that the sole adapts to the surface providing outstanding all round traction – even for directional changes in high speed – on anything from dry asphalt, over wet rocks to pure ice.

bugrip Dynamic studsA BUGrip® sole has 15-19 integrated steel studs. The design of the studs, together with the proper-ties of the rubber compound, gives these studs a dynamic function. The studs work independently from each other and are not completely fi xed. When weight is applied the studs push in toward the surface of the sole. How far they are pushed in depends on the pressure exerted by the user and the resistance from the ground.

Fixed studsFixed studs do not adjust to the surface like the dynamic ones, instead they are always exposed and ready to grip. Fixed studs enable the sole to be a bit thinner which in turn saves weight and improves ground control.

bugweb compatibleA traction system where the sole can be up-graded with six carbide studs. The BUGweb® fi ts into the pattern of the outsole and is quickly assembled (without having to take of the shoe).

Waterproof The BUGdri® technology is designed to keep feet dry. It consists of a tape sealed booty construction, where the waterproof and breathable membrane surrounds the foot like a sock between the lining and upper material. Membrane specifi cation (ac-cording to JIS standards): Waterproofness: water column of over 10,000mm. Breathability: 1,000g/m2/24h.

Non absorbing materialsNon-absorbing materials gain very little weight when they get wet. Important for footwear used in wet condition activities where weight is a critical factor.

Water resistantWater resistant materials are either treated or dense enough to repel water. They are not 100% wa-terproof, but the gain is the high level of breathabil-ity. To maintain the water resistance of a treatment a material needs to be taken care of properly.

-20°c comfort zoneThe comfort zone gives an indication of the lower end outside temperature where the insulating properties maintain a comfortable temperature inside the footwear.

-30°c comfort zoneProducts with this Comfort Zone have a thick lin-ing, a wind blocking upper.

-40°c comfort zoneProducts with Comfort Zone -40C are both insu-lated and have a thermostatic sole.

Recycled materialsRecycled materials and environmentally friendly treatments have been selected to a great extent in order to minimize negative impact.

PYTHO2 BUGrip

When the brand started, the name Icebug was invented to describe one of the key product features. The metaphor was a small bug that could crawl on anything, including ice, while staying in control with perfect grip. Several years later we were surprised to discover that this fantasy creature really exists.

Insects are amazing in their ability to adapt to diverse ecological conditions. The real life “icebugs” have developed an anti-freeze protein in their bodily fl uids, which prevents ice formation. The degree to which these species withstand freezing var-ies widely, from just a few degrees below freezing to -87°C for an Alaskan beetle.

As a tribute to these little fi ghters (an aspect which we could also strongly identify with) we named our running shoes after them. Pytho has since become one of the biggest icons of the line.

The benefi ts of a high performance footbed are huge and more far reaching then most would perhaps expect. When the foot has a correct structure, the foundation is laid for correct alignment higher up in the body. Accordingly, not

only problems with the feet, but also the lower legs, knees, hip, back and even neck can be helped. We have worked together with Ortolab, the laboratory that makes the best custom made footbeds that we have tried, using their know-how to build in their patented technology of giving dynamic support to the arches in a prefabricated footbed. Arch Flex System footbeds are unique in the way that they strengthen the foot’s own shock absorption, giving support but still allowing the natural movement. The full Arch Flex System allows you to choose between three di� erent arch heights, according to your foot.

For Easy Street winter we are using the medium arch specifi cation. This will give those with medium and high arches, around 80 percent of all people, an enormously im-proved fi t and foot interaction compared to a conventional insole.
