introduction

Our mission at Garmont is the make the best trekking and trail footwear on the planet. That means we focus our designs for on-the-trail function and anatomic fit. All other considerations are secondary. Just ask the end-to-enders on the AT, the peak-baggers in the High Rockies or the recent grads of NOLS or Outward Bound. These are hard core to whom we listen and for whom we build our boots.

So the question is: Are Garmonts appropriate for walking the dog, dashing to class, or mowing the lawn? We think so. Garmont’s anatomic comfort, all-weather protection and all-terrain traction are always in style in contemporary outdoor lifestyles. So, we invite you to try on the new Vegan hikers, the updated Eclipse GTX (Outside’s 2005 Gear-of-the Year) or the refreshed Nagevis. We think your feet will be happy campers whether you are walking on the Sierra Crest or around campus.Life-Link’s mission is to deliver the safest and highest performing mountain travel gear on the planet. To help achieve this goal, we sponsor 25 mountain professionals to ski, hike, climb and abuse our equipment in extreme conditions across North America. From their feedback and ideas, we craft each new generation of backcountry products.

For 2008, these professional have helped design the first women’s line of ski and trek poles. The edelweiss, Mountain lily and trillium poles feature ergometrically-designed grips for women’s smaller hands, lighter weights due to our carbon fiber/alloy shaft construction and include both ski and trekking baskets. Our trekking collection offers a variety of styles to meet the individual needs of a wide range of mountain enthusiasts with options of anti-shock on demand, the ability to switch to a backcountry ski pole with avalanche probe, plus packable designs to fit in luggage. So, as Life-Link begins its 30th year, we look forward to continuing our tradition of providing skiers, hikers and climbers with great equipment to enjoy the backcountry.

Garmont’s Rules of DesignWe have two.

rule# 1. Design footwear that compliments and supports what your feet do naturally when walking on the trail.

rule# 2. Recognize that feet are neither symmetrically nor geometrically shaped. So, the structures and materials on the medial and lateral side of our outdoor footwear (as well as on the top and bottom) must differ to match the unique shape, loading and function of that section of the foot.

Based upon these obvious yet profound insights, we work our butts off to create outstanding trail footwear that is both comfortable and functional.

anatomic Directed Design (add). Garmont incorporates add features in all our footwear. These are shown on the opposite page and visually manifest our design philosophy.

Garmont Frames. These are the foundation of Garmont footwear’s comfort and function. Each frame includes a unique combination of outsole, synthetic spine(shank) and midsole that is designed for the footwear’s intended use. The result is your Garmonts absorb shock during heel strike, stabilize the foot at mid stride and propel you forward during toe-off.

Vibram Outsoles. We use Vibram outsoles exclusively on Garmont outdoor footwear. Vibram outsoles are recognized by outdoor consumers to be unmatched in traction and durability.

QDS. Wet feet slide and blister. Wet feet get cold fast. Wet socks and boots harbor bacteria, mold and other nasty friends. Wet boots freeze solid overnight in cold conditions. Wet boots are heavy. And every unit of weight on your feet is like 5+ on your back. A compelling list of reasons for Garmont Quick Dry Synthetic (QDS) lining materials: a family of high tech synthetics with hydrophobic (water hating) properties. They absorb minimal water, give up what they do absorb quickly and easily, and are light and durable.

Gore-tex. Many membranes are available on the market. We choose Gore because their products offer a superior selection of waterproof-breathable membranes. This allows us to match our membrane to each footwear design’s intended use and environment.

the Proof: We admit our bias and belief that Garmont makes the best outdoor footwear on the planet. Interestingly, a few others have come to a similar conclusion. We present below Garmont’s recent awards for outstanding footwear:

CuffHeight

Anatomically Directed Design

FEATURE RESULT BENEFITasymmetrical Closure System Forefoot lacing that

crosses the foot at an angle similar to the toe joints.

Encourages the footwear to flex like your foot.

First Metatarsal accommodation More room for the big toe.

More space for the normal, relaxed position of the toe means greater comfort. Freedom for this toe allows the foot to enact its own mechanism which provides stability, cushioning and efficient propulsion.

Differential Maleolar Pads Heel pads that are asymmetrical medial to lateral, just as most anklebones are.

Compliments heel security by providing a more anatomical and accurate fit around the anklebones.

asymmetrical Cuff Height Asymmetrical cuff heights medial vs. lateral.

Cuff is lower on lateral side for comfort during heel strike. Taller on medial side for support when climbing and scrambling, and to aid in resisting lateral ankle sprains.

lateral tongue Post Lateral half of the tongue is thickened.

Provides a more intimate, anatomical fit, thus resulting in better control and stability and less tongue drift.

Ovalized Locking System - non slipLife-Link’s patented ovalized locking system provides a non-slip technology to easily adjust, lock-in and maintain your desired pre-set length even when packed down. The aluminum upper section of the pole and the Lexan brake shoes inside are both ovalized. An oval will not spin and the Lexan brake shoes grip the sides of the upper. This technology is the strongest locking system available.

Anti-Shock On DemandLife-Link Anti-Shock Trekking Poles have an on and off position, so that you can adjust according to your preference in a variety of terrain. To turn it off: compress the shock by pushing down on the pole, then turn the Posi-Loc to the left. To turn it on, turn it to the right.

In 1914 Bridgedale began knitting socks for soldiers

of World War I providing comfort at a time when it seemed unattainable. Over the last century, each

generation has redefined comfort. Bridgedale has met

the challenge with innovative designs, such as anatomically

sculpted features and T2 double-loop cushioning using our legendary WoolFusion® process. With our collective expertise, we’ve produced the first running sock that improves heel retention — X-Hale Speed Demon and Speed Diva. Distributed in 40 countries, our craftsmen pride themselves in making the best socks in the world. Our legacy is quality; your comfort is in our hands.

WoolFusion®WoolFusion® is our legendary technology that sets Bridgedale apart from other brands. Bridgedale’s WoolFusion® technology combines the highest quality natural yarns, Merino wool or Tough wool, and fuses them with high performance micro fibers, CoolMax® or Endurofil®.

The resulting hybrid yarn has dynamic characteristics providing both wicking & absorption; dual properties that neither natural or synthetic fibers alone can achieve.

WoolFusion® socks provide lasting comfort. They provide warmth when needed and keep excess moisture away from the skin. Best of all, they have the durability that made us legendary.

‘enduring Comfort’. 3-Year WoolFusion® Guarantee:We guarantee the comfort of Bridgedale WoolFusion® socks. We are so confident about the Enduring performance and comfort of our socks that we offer a 3-Year Guarantee of comfort with all socks made using our WoolFusion® technology. That promise is on the front of every WoolFusion® sock pack.
