population now live in fortified hamlets. All of the cities of old are infested by the corrupted.

06/2018-2019 A second period of development. Three of the five kingdoms dedicate themselves to

improving the technological level of their realms. Newly built crude steam engines are constructed,

however most citizens experience 1700s level of technology and medical knowledge.

The Downfall virus

The virus that claimed mankind was not a created biological weapon but merely a mutated virus of

very humble origins; the common cold. From what researchers could piece together Downfall was

accidentally created when attempting to find a remedy for the common cold. It is unknown how the

virus came to be released but most theorise that a faulty protective suit caused a researcher to be

unknowingly contaminated.

Once infected a person will show no symptoms for around two weeks, after the two week

incubation period the infected individual will feel the effects of an Influenza type virus. After three

weeks the infected will begin to bleed from multiple orifices and their pores will expel a greenish

liquid substance. After three and a half weeks the infected individual dies.

The viruss infection vectors share all the paths of the standard cold virus with a few additional

paths. Contact with the green liquid expelled from an infected individual will cause guaranteed

infection. In addition the blood of an infected individual can pass on the virus provided it enters the

body.

At the third stage of the virus a person may instead of dying become a carrier, these carriers are

known by a number of names the most common being The Changed, Ferals and Corrupted.

The Carriers

Those unfortunates who devolve into carriers undergo a number of changes in body.

The carriers skin will lose its colour turning into a mottled grey hue. The carrier will develop a remarkable resistance to pain The blood in a carriers body coagulates and any wound they suffer will clot extremely

quickly

The carriers senses are vastly improved with their hearing ability increasing drastically, theirnight vision also improves.

The carrier experiences a drop in intelligence, however they gain an animal like cunning anda ferocity matched only by the most violent of people.

The athletic ability of most carriers increases.Carrier society is pack like. A pack will consist of around fifty beings with an alpha carrier in charge,

the alpha carrier is not necessarily the strongest as some packs are rule by vastly cunning individuals

as opposed to the stereotypical brute. The average pack has a third of it numbers in females, the

alpha carrier will have a preferred harem of females with those not included in the harem as

breeding stock for the rest of the pack.

Carriers dwell primarily in the abandoned cities and make travelling through them almost

impossible. The carriers wield crude weapons of bone and jagged metal made deadly with the

poisonous secretions of their bodies.

Amongst the carriers there are a number of subtypes.

The feral is the most common and is the stereotypical carrier, it will carrier a vicious weapon and

may wear scraps of clothes over its misshapen and foul body. A feral will almost always be the packs

leader.

The brute is a feral whose body has developed significant mass and muscle due to the virus. They

share the same intelligence and heightened senses as the rest of the carriers but also possess an

immense strength and tolerance to pain. They often reach heights of 7ft and carrier massive two

handed weaponry.

The toad is a feral whose body produces an obscene amount of virus secretions. Their bodies are

often more malformed than other carriers and the stench of rot hangs around them. Other carriers

use them as a walking poison stock and will frequently drag their weapons through its secretions.

The corrupters origins are somewhat unsure but it is believed that women who were pregnant

when the change occurred turned into the corrupters. The corrupters are exclusively female and

they all possess stomachs swollen with a foul substance which alters those it touches. The corrupter

constantly leaks a black oil like substance from between their legs, this substance changes any who

touch it into carriers. The substance is believed to be stem cells infected by the virus. Many

corrupters are kept in the packs lair and have the fluid they excrete collected into vast pools.

Captives are the thrown into these pools to be altered. Those who are changed this way always

emerge as the strongest and most cunning of the carriers. Carriers are protected fanatically by

carriers due to their ability to create new carriers.
