Defining Poverty(SAIPE) eligibility
Ex: 2009 = official SAIPE poverty threshold was $21,756 for family of 4 containing 2 related children under 18
Comparison - WIC guidelines
School-based (F/R) eligibility
130% of poverty level received free
185% for reducedEx: 2009 = official poverty
threshold was $22,050 for family of 4 containing 2 related children under 18
$22050 x 1.30 = $22665 (free)
$22050 x 1.85 = $40793 (reduced)
![Page 22: Fall Title I Coordinators’ Network Meeting](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062500/56814f51550346895dbcf787/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
SAIPE differences…Population estimate from SAIPE
-is based on the school age population for children living within the school district boundaries
-does not include open enrollment, etc-does not include foster children and
those in institutional facilitiesUSDE calculations incorporate open
enrollment, foster children, etc.
![Page 23: Fall Title I Coordinators’ Network Meeting](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062500/56814f51550346895dbcf787/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Poverty calculations…SAIPE estimates for community poverty have
a two-year lag time (ie., SAIPE utilizes federal tax return data for 2006, which were filed in 2007, and available to the program in 2008)
![Page 24: Fall Title I Coordinators’ Network Meeting](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062500/56814f51550346895dbcf787/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
