Presidents MessageHello Badgers!

Wow! Just WOW! How much fun did we have this summer?!? The 9th annual Badger Heritage Field Games was another Huge Success! We registered an all time high 131 riders raising just shy of $550 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Overall attendance was up again from last year showing the interest in this event is still growing. The H-D Museum continues to add different elements that keep the whole thing “fresh”. What a great group of people to collaborate with! Next year’s event will be even bigger with the special recognition for the 70th Anniversary of the Panhead! I am just back from our AMCA Directors meeting this past weekend which was held in conjunction with the Fort Sutter Chapter National Road Run and I had more than a handful of people come up to me asking about the specifics for next year’s Wild One’s Weekend. There’s a lot of interest and members are anxious for more details so they can make plans to attend. Uh-oh Tom Hinderholtz! :o) Chris Tribbey & Josh Richardson continue to do a fantastic job leading this effort along with the many Badger volunteers who show up to “take care of business”. Thanks to you all!

And, how much fun was our Annual Badger Derby/Summer Picnic weekend this year?!? Mother nature looked down on the Badger Heritage Chapter and gave us a wonderful weekend to enjoy great friends & kool old bikes in a setting that couldn’t have been more perfect! A HUGE Thank-You to the entire Stair family: Dennis, Sharon and of course Denny who set this whole thing in motion over a year ago, at the 2016 Wild One’s Weekend when he came up to me and said “Hey Dan, let’s have a party at my place!”

Some thoughts about the Badger Derby/Summer Picnic weekend: First off Denny, you, your mother and father have hearts bigger than the State of Wisconsin and the grounds were prepared perfectly for our party. You left no stone unturned and really took care of us, your hospitality is second to none!

“Road Captain” Tom Hinderholtz put together one of the best rides ever! The route, length, stops, speed and timing was nothing short of perfection. Thanks for the effort you put into researching the route to make sure it was safe and enjoyable for all of us!

The creativity of our Treasurer Chris Bilda is something to behold. Chris singlehandedly came up with the “TT Race” idea and set it in motion. What fun it was to send 32 riders out in competition and see all the smiles as riders completed the course, well done Chris! How funny was the crew “score carding” the riders as they came down the hill to complete the Blind Race? Now that was funny! (Al & Ellen Feyereisen, Rich Hinderholtz, Kevin Griffith, Bill Rodriquez…)

Tom Gonnering & Kevin Klatt: Thank you both for the effort you put into the “Badger Brews”. We enjoyed both of your batch-es and I am very impressed with your knowledge & history of the brewing process, Salute! We are looking forward to your next year’s brews!

The Saturday evening hangout at the Tiki Bar was a blast! I don’t remember how many people got into the Bar Dice and Ship/Captain/Crew games but man was it competitive! I lost my voice for a couple days from all the good-humored jabs that werebeing exchanged… The Fireworks display was fantastic and thanks go to Denny’s cousin Glen Hanke for the awesome dis-play! It was good to see Glen the next morning with all his 7 fingers still intact. :-D

Of course, an event like this is only possible with the help from the many volunteers before, during and after the party. I’d like to recognize the committee members who helped put this all together: Bear Kazmierski (grounds maintenance & clean up), Chris Bilda (TT Race), Steve Peters (Signage & Pennants), Tom Gonnering (Site Logistics and “Shovelhead Schwill”) , Kevin & Renee Klatt (“Badger IPA”, Ice & Trouble Truck), Tom Hinderholtz (Road Captain), Rich Hinderholtz (Party Vibes!), Larry & Donna Bilda (Picnic Supplies) and of course Denny Stair who hosted us for the committee meetings and took care of the local logistics. A final thank-you to our Photo Documentarians Cathy Drexler, Jeff Hill & Steve Peters who regularly take the time to capture our moments.

Fall is upon us, the days are getting short and the nights are getting long but some of the best, most scenic riding is ahead. Get out and enjoy each other’s company, don’t hesitate to put a post on FB or whatever to get each other out enjoying our awesome hobby!

Next up is our Fall Chapter Meeting at chapter member Paul Woelbing’s Carma Lab’s in Franklin, WI., event poster in this issue.

See you there!

The best to all of you,Dan

The Bastille Days crowd didn’t know what they were missing by not being at the Harley-Davidson Muse-um for the 2017 Wild Ones Weekend. They may have en-joyed the same beautiful weather, but missed out on a re-markable assembly of great old cycles and their colorful riders, along with the always-entertaining vintage field games.

The afternoon passed quickly while watching the riders metic-ulously balance tennis balls on cones (or not!), balance pre-cariously on the narrow plank (or not!), powerfully bat a plastic ball a great distance (or not!)…..and the inevitable mustard-col-ored grins of the “weenie bite” participants. Best moment during the games: watching the facial expressions of the con-testants before the push-the-barrel race upon hearing that this year’s version would include having the start their bikes first!

The chance to take in “The Race of Gentlemen” exhib-it capped off a fun and memorable day. Cathy Drexler

Hey Badgers!

Since I became the Spokesman Newsletter Editor, I have tried to in-clude as many Badger members in the newsletter as I can. I don’t mean by only showing them in photos, but I also like to have their stories as well.

Over the past couple years I have talked with many of you asking for your stories and several of you have responded and provided some great reading!

But, that is not enough. In every issue I like to feature one story about a member and one of their bikes and I have also asked a few of you for a short report about an event you have attended, but I think we need more.

I try to get to as many events as I can and take lots of pho-tos, but I would also like other Badgers to help me with their take on the event with a full report. I have received a few in the past and I thank the Badgers that sent them in.

What I am actually asking for from all of you is a story about an event you have attended and it can be between a quarter page and full page with photos you may have taken. If I was also at the event I can provide the photos if you do not have any.

I really would like this to truly be the Badger Heritage newsletter filled with stories from the members by hav-ing as many of you as possible directly involved in its creation.

If you feel a little intimidated by writing something, I can certainly help you with that. All you need to do is sub-mit your story and I can “fix” it up as needed to make it look good. So, no need to be worried about that. So far, I have not needed to do very much editing of what I have received, and usually just present the stories as given to me.

I sincerely hope you will consider my request and I hope to see more member stories in our Spokesman! Just e-mail them to me with your photos.

Take care and stay safe!

Steve Peters

“You won the CABIN !”

We were looking forward to the 2017 Badger Derby & Summer Picnic anyway, but being able to stay in the beautiful, antique-furnished log cabin on the Stair family farm in Sullivan was a big bonus.

After arriving Friday evening, the first course of action was to check out the cabin & it’s luxury outhouse. After settling in, I followed the tiki lights and scent of citronella to the “pre-party” at Dan & Shannon’s camp. There was lots of talk, laughter, and a few slaps of swatting mosquitoes after the sun set. Not long after that, the bonfire was lit and the music started. Nice selection Richie, and you nailed it with the Jimi Hendrix!

Saturday morning started with coffee and a refreshing swim as the golden morning sun colored the summer haze over the pond. What a beautiful place.

About 10 a.m. the bikes rolled out to begin this year’s edition of the Badger Derby, heading toward the Southern Kettle Moraine town of Eagle. The hot spot for photos turned out to be Rome Oak Hill Road, to catch the riders winding over gentle hills and past farms, and smelling ripe corn in the fields. The destination was the historic Suhmer’s Saloon & Eatery in Eagle, WI, where we were served a tasty meal and gathered for photos in front of the building. (Can’t wait to see those photos from the drone!)

Back at “camp” there was more swimming & relaxation, and more fun, including gathering to take a panoramic photo, engineered by Bill Rodencal & his Precision Team. This was followed by the “Soybean Field T.T.” with a “water hazard” and a fun little hill on the course (rumor has it that Jon Oeflein Davidson was the only rider to actually go THROUGH the water!)

Capping off the event in grand style was the Denny Stair Birthday Atomic Fireworks Show, a display worthy of a good-sized town, and magnified by its reflection in the swimming pond.

Much thanks to the Stair family for allowing us to camp out at their farm. A very memorable weekend…..the only thing missing was rain !

As our Badger Chapter continues to grows so do some of the questions about our club’s Social Media presence. We currently have a Facebook Group and a Facebook Page. What’s the difference you ask and how do we use them? Our Facebook Group currently has 163 members, the general public can read our posts and see the pictures that we share but you must be a member of the group inorder to post to the group. The Facebook page is for Badger members only. To be added and join to the group log into Facebook and look up “Badger Heritage Chap-ter – AMCA” click on the request to join the group button and you will be added to the group. Why join the Facebook Group? Many Badger members have benefited by being able to connect with other fellow Badgers, have the ability to start discussions, ask questions or even share information about an event a ride, or just getting together. In addition to our Facebook Group we also have a Facebook Page. A Facebook Page is not for group discussion but allows the club to post information on social media to be shared with the general public as well as members. A page is one in which you may like the content that is posted by the page and also the page itself. You may find our page on Facebook by looking up “Badger Heritage, a Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America” or under @BadgerHeritage. Currently our page has 337 members and has people from all over the country as well as the world liking what has been shared. I encourage you to consider asking to become a part of the Badger Facebook Group and also like our Facebook Page, if you have any questions you may contact me via email at [email protected]. Thank you, Dan Riedel

At this year’s Badger Derby/Summer Picnic Bill Rodencalorganized a truly historic panoramic photo of our club!

Reminiscent of the early days of motorcycling, the group shot was tak-en in the same manner as those from years past. A large arc was created by Bill with everyone’s bike and then Cathy Drexler, one of our club photogra-phers, used a tripod and took many still shots that followed the arc and then they were later combined on a computer to achieve the long, continuous pho-to without any distortions. Copies of the photo will be $10.00 each printed on photo paper. The size is approx. 5” x 90” and if you would like one please send Bill an email at [email protected]. He needs to get an accurate count to get them printed for the Fall meeting. Give your $10.00 to Bill there.

Chief BlackhawkSwap Meet

Labor Day Weekend 2017

Photos and Story byJoAnn Enk

Who hasn’t been to the Chief Blackhawk Swap Meet in Davenport, Iowa? If you haven’t been, you may want to consider it. Once a year around Labor Day weekend, usually beginning on the Wednesday prior, hundreds of vendors, motorcycle enthusiasts and just people looking for a good time descend upon the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds for the swap meet of a lifetime. As their saying goes, “Where old friends meet, where new friends are made”.

Whether you’re scouring the grounds for parts old or new for your project bike or looking for a new old bike, this place is a dream come true. If you ever wanted to build a bike from the ground up, you could find everything you need right there. Frames, nuts and bolts, lights, chains, you name it. If you are looking for something in particular and you finally find it after days of searching, its like you won the lottery.

And oh the people you will meet. Every row you walk down you will see someone you know, meet someone new, ladies selling bras, Cannonballers for the upcoming Motorcycle Cannonball in 2018....which is a must follow, not to mention in which our very own Chris Tribbey will be riding his newly refurbished 1911 Excelsior. You may even see the pickers from the TV show Antique Archaeology. Plan on spending some time walking the meet because of all the people you will meet. And don’t forget the flat track races! A good time to be had by all.

The Davenport swap meet has something for every-one. Hope to see you there next year!

The deadline for ordering Badger Heritage Logo Gear has been extended! So, if you think you will miss the last day to order on September 16th, it is now September 23rd!

All of our usual items are still available, plus the new addi-tion of Long Sleeve Work Shirts. The order forms were sent out in an e-mail a few weeks ago, but if you need another set, please contact me and I will send them by e-mail right away.

Also, as al-ways, I have logo patches and stickers with me at every event, but you can also order them along with your shirt order.
