Southern WI Cheese & Wine Tour Wisconsin’s long and proud cheese tradition is now complimented by a growing and exciting group of wineries. Join us as we explore some of both the cheese and wine production of south central Wisconsin. We will start in Monroe, cheese capital of Wisconsin and then work our way west, ending up at Botham Vineyards for a late afternoon private tour with vintner Peter Botham. In between we will visit both cheese factories and wineries, hearing stories and learning some history. Course fee includes transportation, responsible for own food and beverage expenses. INSTRUCTOR: Kim Tschudy, a native of New Glarus, has been active in historic preservation for years. He his fifth historical book was recently published.

Sandhill Crane Weekend Odyssey The staging of Sandhill Cranes at the Jasper-Pulaski National Wildlife Area in northern Indiana is one of the more imposing spectacles in all of nature. Assembled in one area can be as many as 20,000 cranes! This is the second largest stopover area for Sandhills in the US. Join our weekend odyssey to witness this impressive natural occurrence and learn about this regal and once-endangered bird. On Sunday we will visit the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. 2 Days. Southern WI Rural Tavern Pub Crawl Southern Wisconsin is home to a variety of unique and interesting rural taverns - those off-the-beaten-path places that truly have character, and characters. Join us as we explore some of these gathering places and talk about how they fit into the history Wisconsin. We will start with a mid/late morning breakfast opportunity at the Pleasant Ridge Store northeast of Dodgeville. From there we will work our way back to Madison via a very indirect route, catching a variety of small town and roadside establishments including the Sprecher and Better Buzz Taverns. Sacred Spaces/Haunted Places Spend a day touring southern/southwestern Wisconsin and NW Illinois to visit several sites that have become special places in the heart of one who takes the road less traveled. During the journey we will visit the ghost towns of Exeter and Exeter Union Cemetery, Moscow. Haunted places? Then we will travel on to Bloody Lake near Woodford, WI. Sacred and haunted? From Woodford we will travel to New Diggings, WI where we will visit an old time bar and the oldest Masonic Hall in Wisconsin. 1 Meeting. On The Trail of Chief Black Hawk Join us for a special way to reflect on the upcoming Memorial Day. We will trace the trail of Chief Black Hawk and his people as they were pursued across southern Wisconsin in the tragic ending to the Blackhawk War. We will visit sites associated with Blackhawk’s early travels during the war including sites in Dane, Rock, Jefferson and Sauk Counties. For those who have taken this course previously these are all new stops! Explore the actions and thoughts of a man who fought because “the Great Spirit gave it (the land) to his children to cultivate it, they have a right to the soil.” Course fee includes transportation; bring your sack lunch and a beverage. 1 Meeting. Father Mazzuchelli Tour Enjoy a day in southwestern Wisconsin tracing the life of Father Samuel Mazzuchelli. The Father was the builder of numerous Catholic churches in southwestern Wisconsin as well as Iowa and Illinois in the 1840’s (before we were a state!). We will visit his first church in Mineral Point and his most unique, recently restored church, St. Augustine’s in New Diggings. We will also spend time at the Mazzucelli museum at Sinsinawa and visiting his burial site at Benton. Time permitting, we will also visit several other churches he was involved with building and one or two of the civic buildings built by Father Mazzuchelli. Tour led by an atheist who is fascinated by the architecture as well as the important part country churches played in the development of southern Wisconsin. Intro to Lapidary Lapidary is the art of cutting, polishing or engraving stones. See how you can take a rough rock such as an agate or jasper and turn it into a work of art suitable for incorporating into jewelry. Designed for the beginner and is a great complement to jewelry making. Learn safety and the basic skill techniques to saw, grind, sand, and polish many different types of rock into cabochons. A cabochon is a gemstone which has been shaped and polished as opposed to faceted. The resulting form is usually a convex top with a flat bottom. Children in Mini Courses Mini Courses is a lifelong education program designed for adult learners. Recent State of

Wisconsin regulations (Executive Order #54) means we must limit enrollment only to those ages 18 and over. Thank you for your understanding.

Wisconsin’s Concealed Carry Law Weapons are banned from all Union facilities, programs, and field trips, including those weapons as allowed under the State of Wisconsin concealed carry laws, to the extent that the law allows.

FaQOur Satisfaction GuaranteeYour satisfaction is important to us! If you are dissatisfied with your Mini Course, let us know, and we will issue a Credit Voucher to be used towards any other Mini Course(s) in the next year. A completed Voucher Request Form must be received with 10 days of the FIRST class meeting. Voucher Request Form available on our web site or from office. Phone requests are possible.

How about Parking?Ask us! For most classes we can provide you with information on parking within two blocks of your meeting place. See our website. Campus parking information is also available at: transportation.wisc.edu/resources/maps

What if I need a Refund?Full refund of course fees possible if we cancel a course for any reason. IF YOU REQUEST A REFUND, A $5.00 FEE WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR REFUND. TO RECEIVE A REFUND, NOTICE MUST BE RECEIVED BY OUR OFFICE THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS

BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS MEETING. No refunds for inability to attend published rain dates. Refund of Membership fees requires return of Membership Card. Refunds for fees paid by cash or check can take up to 4 weeks to process. Refunds for fees paid by credit card are credited to your account immediately. Receipts will not be mailed for credit card or web-based refunds. Please consult your monthly credit card statement for confirmation of refund.

What about Transfers and Credit Vouchers?Transfers and Credit Vouchers are possible up to three business days prior to the starting date of any course. A $5.00 FEE IS ASSESSED for requesting a Credit Voucher. No Credit Voucher will be issued after second class session for multiple session courses. One-session and individual lesson courses require three business day minimum prior to class start date for Transfer or Credit Voucher requests. Credit Vouchers are good towards any Mini Course, for one year from date of issue.

Returned ChecksA $30 fee is due on any returned check.

Where is my Course Location?Course locations are listed on your course Confirmation Notice under the course title, including directions for determining exact location if necessary. For classes on campus check the “Today in the Union” (TITU) online at www.union.wisc.edu. Printed TITU’s posted at every Union entrance only list courses in the Unions. Call our office (262-3156) if you need any assistance.

What If I Register on the Web?Participants who register via our website will be able to print their own course confirmation notice. Please print out or save your confirmation, as no other course notice will be mailed. All additional info you need will be on this e-confirmation.
