What a weekend we had in St. Louis at the 2010 Relìv International Conference! I’ve been to countless Relìv conferences over the years, but I can’t remember any that were more motivating than this year’s Ready, Set, Relìv! event.

What made this conference so powerful, I think, was the simplicity and the clarity of the message flowing through the entire weekend: “Let’s go tell people about Relìv!” It wasn’t a message being driven by the corpo-rate office; it was rather a call to action generated by the Distributors themselves. As a result, you could feel a real community spirit and a genuine passion in the room from start to finish. People are ready to take action!

With all that has transpired in our nation and in our world over the past few years, Distributors are realizing in a more profound way that they have discovered something in Relìv that people truly need. And they’re learning that sharing it doesn’t have to involve complex business strategies. Most of the time it’s simply a matter of asking people, “Have you heard about Relìv?” Try it; it works!

This issue of Lifestyle contains just some of the many exciting things going on at Relìv right now— Team Relìv, social media, promotions and all the new initiatives launched at conference. On a personal note, what I’m most eager to share with you in this Lifestyle is the announcement of our first class of inductees into the Relìv Hall of Fame. If you’re a baseball or rock ‘n roll fan, you can probably name a few hall-of-famers. These individuals represent a legacy that others aspire to build. The all-new Relìv Hall of Fame is no different. At International Conference, 12 accomplished Distributors were inducted as Relìv’s first Hall of Fame Class.

The Relìv Hall of Fame is a Lifetime Achievement Award that recognizes the top income earners in the company. To qualify, a Distributor must have earned one of the top 15 incomes in the company at least five times. Top 15 performances do not have to be consecutive — qualification accumulates over a Distributor’s career, making induction into the Hall of Fame a lifetime recognition.

Honorees are recognized on stage at Inter-national Conference upon their induction. They also receive a trophy befitting their achievement, recognition at subsequent conferences and on reliv.com, and their photo on permanent display at Relìv Headquarters.

Our Hall of Famers have changed the lives of countless people in their Relìv careers and played an instrumental role in advanc-ing Relìv’s mission to Nourish Our World. Please join us in saluting them for all they have achieved.

One of the best tactics you can use to

build your business is attending network-

ing events. But walking into a room full of

strangers can be intimidating even for a

seasoned Distributor. Here’s how you can

make the most out of this opportunity.

Find the MeetingsNetworking events are happening all over your town. Whether it is the local chamber of commerce, the rotary club or a professional development group, you can always find an event where dozens, maybe even hundreds of local people are meeting. Find the one that suits your needs the best. For example, Bronze Ambassador Trino Luna of Omaha, NE, joined his local Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“At the meetings, I have met a lot of different people looking to change careers, so it is a great opportunity for me to tell them about Relìv,” Trino says.

Presidential Bronze Ambassador Rosemary Bell of O’Fallon, MO, recently joined her local chapter of Business Network International (BNI). The group meets weekly and guests are invited to attend two meetings before deciding whether they want to join the chapter.

“The meetings are a great opportunity because at each one, you get one minute to introduce your-self and promote your business,” Rosemary says. “Then, we rotate opportunities to give a 6-8 minute presentation to the group. For my presentation, I showed some of the Relìv Opportunity Slides.”

Prepare YourselfBe sure to bring a stack of business cards with you and be prepared to summarize what you do and why you love your business. Many networking events have a “business card exchange” at the beginning

of each meeting where you have an opportunity to meet everyone at your table. The last thing you want is to run out of cards and miss a potential opportunity to get a call later! Wear a shirt with the Relìv logo on it so people who know of the company can recognize it, and those who don’t know about Relìv can ask you what it is.

Provide Useful ContentSuccessful networking is all about sharing useful content with others. Provide information, content and helpful advice to others and they are more likely to respond. Consider being a sponsor of a meeting. Many organizations allow members to give a presentation or put an ad in the program book in exchange for a sponsorship fee. This puts your business in the spotlight and allows you to reach out to the entire group, beyond the individu-als at your own table.

Form RelationshipsForming relationships is the goal of professional networking events. Instead of starting out with a sales pitch, ask others about their careers and what they like about it. “The key to networking at these events is to have good listening skills,” Rosemary advises.

People love talking about themselves, so this will naturally open up the door for conversation. Be an active listener. Then stay in touch. That can mean planting the seed of interest about your Relìv busi-ness, then developing the relationship further to sponsor someone.

Maybe you send a business referral or pass along an article you found that relates to his or her industry. Perhaps you send a business owner a congratulatory note when you find out about an accomplishment. Maybe they aren’t ready to make a career move now, and that’s ok. But once you have formed a credible professional relationship, you have set yourself up for a business opportunity meeting later. Plus, even if that individual isn’t ready to become a Distributor or customer yet, perhaps they know of someone else who is.

A No-Fear Guide to Networking Events

Some tips for using networking events successfully:1. Determine your goals in participating in networking meet-ings so that you can pick groups that will help you get what you are looking for. Some meetings are focused on professional devel-opment, learning, volunteering or local economic development, while others are focused strictly on forming business connections.

2. Volunteer for the organization. Simply helping plan a meet-ing or event helps you stay visible and puts you in a better position to meet more people.

3. Become known as a powerful resource for others. When you form a reputation as a resource, people remember to turn to you for suggestions, ideas, names of other people, etc. By remaining on others’ radar and being a resource to them, you become the first person they will want to call when they have a referral for you.

4. Follow through quickly on referrals you are given. When people give you referrals, your actions are a reflection on them. Respect and honor that and your referrals will grow.

Use Team Relìv to network at community events!Team Relìv can help you promote your business at more than just 5k races. Use Team Relìv event materials to set up a booth at a community festival and give out samples. Provide a nutrition infor-mation booth at a health fair. Set up a booth at a local job fair to encourage people to start their own business. Wear your Team Relìv gear and get ready to make some business contacts!

Identify NeedIt’s no secret that our sedentary lifestyle and modern diets have left us at risk like never before. The most common risk factors have been grouped into the term “metabolic syndrome” and include high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body weight and abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels. At Relìv we felt compelled to develop nutritional approaches to help address these issues.

In 2005 we introduced CardioSentials®, clinically shown to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and support total heart health. Two years later we launched Slimplicity®, a comprehensive lifestyle plan for shedding excess weight. And in 2008 we unveiled GlucAffect®, an unprecedented nutritional approach to blood sugar management.

Research IngredientsAs high blood sugar became an increasing problem in the medical community, the nutritional field began to identify ingredients that helped address it. At Relìv we worked with suppliers, colleagues, our Scientific Advisory Board and re-searchers on staff to create a list of potential ingredients based on solid scientific evidence. Our initial list was fairly extensive, but through continued research we started to piece together potential formulations.

Create FormulaWe then sourced small quantities of ingredients using the same quality control practices we use for all of our products. Each ingredient required a Certificate of Analysis from an independent lab and we conducted our own testing upon arrival. It was a way to not only test the ingredients, but to test any new suppliers as well.

We began the process of assembling the formula in the lab. Most ingredients came with suggested dose amounts based on clinical research, so we tried to work at these levels. The goal was to find the right synergistic blend so that nutrients would work together for maximum benefit. We created several different mixes and tested for things such as flavor, color and solubility and then worked toward a blend that would be both palatable and affordable without sacrificing effec-tiveness. Once we identified the formula, we scaled it up by ordering larger amounts of all ingredients and making sure it would work in production.

Test FormulaWith GlucAffect we were fortunate to partner with Horphag Research to arrange an eight-week clinical trial of the prod-uct. The results were even better than we expected (see sidebar). We knew we had created a product unlike anything else on the market.

Launch Product I’ll never forget the excitement in that room in Chicago when we in-troduced GlucAffect. Even better were the stories of healthy blood sugar levels and weight loss that we started hearing just weeks after the launch. And those stories continue to pour in! I am very proud of what we accomplished in creating GlucAffect and look forward to hearing even more stories about the lives it will improve in the years to come.

In an eight-week clinical study, 50 overweight subjects with moderately elevated fasting blood glucose — criteria for metabolic syndrome — were randomly assigned to either receive four daily servings of GlucAffect or an inactive control product with identical taste, color and texture.

Test subjects taking GlucAffect lowered their blood fasting glucose by an average of 30%, moving from pre-diabetic glucose levels to healthy blood sugar values. The lowered blood glucose was confirmed by the average HbA1c (gly-cosylated hemoglobin) level, which also moved into the healthy range. No significant glucose lowering was found in the control group.

In addition, those individu-als taking GlucAffect lost an average of nearly 16 pounds during the eight-week period, slimming to an extent on average that they achieved their optimal BMI (body mass index). No significant effect on body weight was found in the control group.

What is Pycnogenol®?

Pycnogenol is an extract derived from the bark of the maritime

pine tree that grows only in southwest-ern France. It was initially introduced in Europe in the 1970s as an over-the-coun-ter product. Since then, it has become one of the most rigorously studied ingredients in nutrition science. Ninety eight clinical studies have validated the health benefits of Pycnogenol.

What are Pycnogenol’s demonstrated health benefits?

From the beginning, Pycnogenol was understood to improve vascu-

lar function, increase blood flow and lower blood pressure. It was later discovered to be a potent antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals much more effectively than popular supplements such as vitamin E. Additional studies revealed its anti-inflammatory prop-erties, with people experiencing positive results with joint problems, asthma and many further health issues. More recently, as we began investigating Pycnogenol con-sumption in overweight people, we discov-ered that it also has an effect on normalizing blood sugar levels.

How does Pycnogenol work in combination with the other ingredients found in GlucAffect®?

The combination of active compo-nents in GlucAffect all point to the

ability to naturally reduce the blood sugar levels after a dietary intake of carbohy-drates. Usually when we eat carbohydrate-rich meals — pasta, bread, rice, etc. —

digestive fluids need to break down those starchy molecules into glucose, which then reach the bloodstream. GlucAffect actually works on digestive enzymes to slow down the digestion of starchy foods. As a result, you naturally lower the blood glucose peak after a meal, which could otherwise lead to weight gain and unhealthy blood sugar levels.

Why do you think the results of the GlucAffect clinical trial are so significant?

What the GlucAffect clinical trial showed so impressively is that peo-

ple could manage their blood sugar levels and lose weight without using a stimulant or something harmful to the body. This was a placebo-controlled, evidence-based clinical trial published in a peer-reviewed medical journal. It is something Relìv should be very proud of.

How do you view GlucAffect’s potential for helping people with metabolic syndrome?

When we began the clinical study, we expected to see a lowering of

blood sugar levels because of the active ingredients in GlucAffect and because we had selected participants with slightly ele-vated blood sugar levels. What we didn’t expect to see was such significant weight loss over the eight-week period — an average of nearly 16 pounds!

So that means we have statistically sig-nificant data demonstrating the product’s effectiveness in addressing two of the cri-teria for metabolic syndrome. In addition,

we know from other studies that many of the ingredients in GlucAffect — such as Pycnogenol, omega 3 fatty acids and others — have also demonstrated positive benefits with blood pressure, triglycerides and cholesterol. So for people who want to tackle all metabolic issues, they would be well served consuming GlucAffect every day as part of a long-term healthy lifestyle plan.

After working so closely with them, what is your opinion of Relìv’s product development team?

I have utmost respect for Dr. Carl Hastings and his team. Using

GlucAffect as an example, the formula they created is a true breakthrough in nutrition science. I am not aware of any other product like it in the industry. You need look no further than the clinical trial to understand just how much they accomplished. I continue to work with Relìv today and look forward to doing so for many years to come.

If it wasn’t for Relìv, I would not have accomplished this!

At 25, Key Director Robin Lane Allsopp of Basking Ridge, NJ, tried to compete in a marathon and injured her knee. The pain was slowing her down… until she discovered Relìv five years ago. An athlete most of her life, Robin was astounded by the results she experienced on the Relìv products.

“I started with Relìv Classic®, Innergize!® and FibRestore®. When I added ProVantage®, I noticed an improvement in my endurance, stamina and recovery time,” she explains. “In fact, I was able to increase my mileage with Relìv!”

At more than 300 pounds, Key Affiliate Silvia Martinez, an elementary school principal from Dallas, TX, made a deci-sion to get healthy with Relìv.

Key Directors Deb and Rich Riolo of Grand Rapids, MI, tried in vain to get out from under crushing debt... and then they found Relìv.

I am amazed at how well this business has worked for me

Key Director Teresa Paris of Tucson, AZ, had tried a few multi-level marketing companies in the past with no success. “In previous MLMs I always spent more money than I made, so I was skeptical when a family member encouraged me to sign up with Relìv.”

After her sales job was downsized, Teresa got focused on building her Relìv business. “I was doing four or five appoint-ments every day, working my way to Master Affiliate.” After the disappointment of a small first check, Teresa refocused. “I dug in my heels and my business got hot and heavy. I ended up coming in first place in the nation that month!”

She attended her first Master Affiliate Training school in June. “They called my name out so many times for recognition, I started to get embarrassed!”

Driven to succeed, Teresa hopes to make Senior Director soon. “Sometimes when you work for yourself, you work harder than you work for others,” she says. “I set out to accomplish goals every day. Some days are better than others, but I am amazed at how well this business has worked for me.”

Key Directors Norman and Lorene Helmuth of Livingston, WI, had already been successful with several other businesses before they found Relìv. Norman keeps busy with carpentry and installation jobs as well as auc-tioneering at farm shows. Lorene cares for their seven children aged two to 15.

Although he was happy with his jobs, Norman desired a career that would give him more time with his family. “When we saw our wonderful health results on the prod-ucts, we knew this could be a great home-based business for us,” explains Norman. “The best part about it would be being able to spend time with our family. I love the ability to make a difference and work from home

Director Sidney Czynski of Lundelein, IL, was not interested in a business. Retired from a 30-year career as an airline atten-dant, she was physically exhausted. But she decided to try Relìv products for her health. Soon she was able to give up her second morning cup of coffee yet feel more energized than ever.

Managing Director of Relìv Philippines Jolly Gomez has been appointed as a commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) by the new Philippines President Noynoy Aquino. The Philippines Sports Commission oversees sports development at all levels in the Philippines.

Jolly is one of only five commissioners of the PSC. He is well known in Philippines sports circles because he also serves as the nation’s Little League International District Administrator.

“I took the position only on the condition that I could continue to work for Relìv,” Jolly says. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to choose between the two passions in my life, but I am excited that they both enable me to work with chil-dren and help them grow healthy!”

President Noy said he chose Jolly because of his integrity and honesty, and the president wanted new faces in government that were not afraid to make changes to improve the athletic programs in the Philippines.

International Conference was a huge success for the Relìv Kalogris Foundation. Over 90% of conference attendees participated in the Walk for the Mission — a new record!
