We owe a great deal to the 29 visionary women who gathered in 1959 and became the charter members of our organization. Collectively, they could serve the legal profession and the Columbus community while promoting a better acquaintance and friendship among the families of lawyers through social programs. For 54 years now, the CBAA has been doing just that. We have supported the courts with Municipal Court tours and the waiting room at the Domestic Violence and Stalking Unit. We have supported programs which provide access to justice for those who cannot afford legal services through Choices, and by providing bus passes to get to court. We have supported immigrants through CRIS (Community Refugee Immigration Service) and Law Day activities. We have supported innocent children caught up in the justice system by providing toys and books for the Childrens’ Room, supporting the Center for Child & Family Advocacy and the National Center for Adoption Law at Capital University. We have supported legal and civil education with “Now You’re 18”, Kids Voting, OWjL, Readers Rule, Open Books, Open Minds, ”Savvy Seniors”, a Constitution in every 5th graders’ pocket, and the Law & Leadership Institute. I am proud of what the CBAA has accomplished, and what it stands for. are still dues paying members. Their continued participation in the CBAA should inspire all of us today, to carry forward the ideals they established. Thank you, to our charter members and bless you for your 54 years of great service. This year we will continue with several of our successful activities like bridge group, gourmet group, book club and days out. There will be interesting programs for the general membership meetings. And we are planning some new activities this year. We are also going to try some new fund raising efforts. We will let you know when things are scheduled. I hope you can attend many of our events where you can socialize and renew, or start, terrific friendships. I am delighted to have the chance to serve as CBAA President this year, and look forward to working together with you to continue the good that comes from the CBAA.

Sharon Chappelear, President

Fall Program Line-up What a wonderful way to start our year of programs with a trip to Buckeye Lake. On September 19th starting at 11:30am enjoy a beautiful day at Buckeye Lake with your CBAA friends. The pontoon boat, Queen of the Lake II, will pick us up at the winery and transport us to the prehistoric cranberry bog. After our tour, we will return to the winery for a buffet lunch and winetasting at the beautiful new facility overlooking the lake. Coming up next on October 17th hope you will join us at the historic 1858 Felkner-Anderson House, now known as Horsey Hall, in Ostrander. It is crammed with antiques, art, furniture, home accessories, handmade jewelry, and equestrian

themed treasures. Learn about antiques and afterwards enjoy a delicious lunch from the café.Our program in November on the 15th will be another one for readers to love.
