President’s Message
1878
Heather Maupin, D.D.S.
This has been an exciting year full of new opportunities:1) The IDA Annual Session was hosted at
French Lick this year, and had record attendance.
2) A big thank you to Dr. Doug Spaulding for hosting the Foundation’s Annual Golf outing, and to all of those who attended.
3) I’ve had the pleasure of serving as an Ex officio to the ADA’s Council on Membership, and continue to serve the New Dentist Committee for the 7th District until the ADA’s November meeting. It’s no secret that membership in orga-
nized dentistry is declining, and this begs the questions: A) What will our profession look like in
ten years?B) What will our membership mean to us?
Recently, a dentist from Minnesota was splattered all over the news and social media for some questionable hunting, but he was identified not as a Man, but as a Dentist. TV commercials are starting to use
marketing techniques that may question and/or add doubt in our patient’s mind about dentistry. Insurance companies are continuing to have an influence, and in some cases, dictate who our patient may choose as their provider. Organized den-tistry, and our membership, mean more now than ever in this rapidly changing envi-ronment. We need the help of everyone to continue the legacy of organized dentistry, and reverse the current downward member-ship trends.
So, please get involved. Become the voice of organized dentistry. Attend events, such as: President’s Fall Workshop on Sept. 17; Fall GMM on Oct. 7; Tax Identity Theft & Credit Card Fraud Seminar on Oct. 29. Serve on IDDS Committees!
We need to focus on our grassroots efforts if we are going to reverse the current trend. Please join me, and let’s keep organized dentistry strong in representing us—the dentists who are its members. It is the BEST avenue of making our voices heard and our presence felt by those who would regulate us out of our profession.

Subs? Associates? Are you thinking of adding an associate? Are you thinking of
retiring? Maybe we can help! Are you in need of someone to substi-tute for you when you are out of the office for vacation, or you have had a medical emergency of some kind? Turmoil and tragedy happen to everyone. When you are in need of someone to help you serve your patients, IDDS has a list of associates who are willing to sub, so con-tact us for more information. This is a member benefit available to members only, and is another example of your colleagues in organized dentistry helping each other.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the IDDS Foundation Golf Tournament outstanding! We had gorgeous weather, and 73 players who enjoyed the outing. Special thanks to Dr. Doug Spaulding for being our Chair again this year, and to his wife, Diane Spaulding, who always works so hard to make this event successful. Dr. Spaulding graciously puts this tour-nament together, and is a very entertaining host at the dinner afterwards—he entertains the guests and is worth the price of admission just to attend the dinner!!
Our Gold Sponsors were:, C&M Laboratory (Dr. Don-John Summerlin), CareCredit, Commerce National Bank, IDA Insurance Services, Indiana Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, MW Banks Consulting, and Stock Yards Bank & Trust. (l to r): Aaron Light, Kurt Langdon, Matt Vogt and Kyle Scott
