Don’t Hesitate – Just Vaccinate!Vaccinations protect against many diseases – including the flu, a serious illness. You can’t get the flu from injectable flu vaccines, but you are susceptible to the flu for about 14 days after receiving the vaccine. Injectable flu vaccines, which contain pieces of specific types of the flu virus, allow our immune system to recognize the virus and fight it. Unfortunately, you may come in contact with another type of flu virus that wasn’t included in your vaccine, so it’s important to always use good hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water and cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze to prevent the spread of infection.

Flu vaccines are needed annually, especially as you get older and your immune system becomes weaker. It is recommended that individuals 65 and older get a higher dose of the flu vaccine each year to aid their immune system in fighting the flu virus. Because some people will not be able to get the flu vaccine for certain reasons, it’s extra important for you to be vaccinated if you can be. This helps protect those who can’t get the vaccine by reducing their likelihood of coming in contact with the virus through you. The flu vaccine is covered by most insurance plans for little or no cost. DON’T HESITATE, JUST VACCINATE!
For more information about flu shots, please contact

Living THE Good Life: MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
The Good Life Club is highlighting members in the community who make a positive difference and truly exemplify “The Good Life.” This issue’s fea-tured member is Sue Cox, a breast cancer survivor!
Sue is originally from Illinois, but she spent the last 30 years in the South and says, “I love the South!” She retired almost 10 years ago from Anheuser Busch as a quality assurance tech, but worked most of her career life as a medical technologist in
various labs and hospitals. Currently, Sue is a Bartow County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for children) volunteer, advocating for abused or neglected children in order to provide them with a safe and healthy environment in permanent homes. For fun, Sue line dances four days a week – which is a great way to stay active and healthy! She also belongs to garden, historical and church groups. Sue travels and enjoys the “Good Life.” Although her husband passed away several years ago, her daughter, grandsons and great grandson live nearby, so she enjoys always having family around. Sue is simply a ray of sunshine!
The Good Life Club is now on Facebook! Join our group by visiting facebook.com/groups/theGLC. Be the first to know about upcoming events, healthy aging news and get involved to win some prizes!
