Rolling InThe Flame

Courtney Richie grew up in the hustleand bustle of the suburbs which she blocked outwith art. Always making things, she found thatcreating resulted in blissful solitude.

After an apprenticeship to a master gold-smith and jeweler where she learned the use of atorch, the movement of metal and even the gradingof precious stones, she found lampworking--melting gorgeous, colored glass rods with a torchinto tiny sculptures and beads. The tiny detailsand all their possibilities were addicting. There inthe fluid medium of molten glass, she found her personal Zen; blissfully rolling glass in theflame. Trying new designs andincorporating metal work keepsher fresh and grounded.

Christmas inOctober is Courtney’s firstCloud Production Show andshe is full steam ahead and SOEXCITED! Courtney invites you toshare her excitement in Building F-a, Booth 43and help her make her next chapter a success!

Time is flying by so fast! Anyone who knows me knows that I am a beach girl at heart andlove summer! I can honestly say that I will be looking forward to winter also flying by asquickly so I can get back to the beach in 2014! Dean and I were able to spend a couple oflong, fun weekends this summer plus one very special weekend at Rehoboth Beach, Delawarewhere Dean and I and my sisters surprised my Mom, Lainey, for her 80th birthday. I hope allof us can be as active and enjoy life as much as she does!Dean's road to recovery since May has been a good one. The healing process from all thechemo and radiation to his lung seems to be moving along. He is very strong willed and hastaken this on like a freight train. His spirit has been wonderful! He is learning how to dealwith retirement and having time to enjoy life. One day at a time has been our motto and we appreciate more thanever our time together with each other, family and friends. The grandbabies (they will always be my babies) are now 11, 3, 2, and 2. The 3 and 2 will soon be 4 and 3 and they

are growing up so fast! Evan, the oldest, is now busy with football and 5th grade. He and his mom, Heather, recently moved toArcadia so things at school are a lot closer for both. They moved into the family house of Grandpa Fred. Danielle's little ones, Mackenzie and Maddison, are now 3 and 2. With a birth-day just celebrated, there were Princess' everywhere. These two just have tosmile to make a bad day good! I am so thankful they are just a short drive south.

My odometer spins taking me to Columbus to see my two pumpkins! The road to myGrandgirls is short with anticipation of the hugs! Danielle and Cliff recentlydecided that with the girls growing up so fast that she should enjoy being astay at home mom. The girls love it! Dustin's little one, Austin, is now 2 and growing like a weed. Dustin andAmber recently moved right down the road from us, so we get to see a little more ofthis adorable little guy. He loves his PawPaw

Ken continues his career at Booz Allen Hamilton, in Dayton. If he isn’t busy enough with officiatingjunior and high school varsity football and basketball games, he has added Division 3 College foot-ball. I am hoping to be able to cheer on the ref at some games this year and happily admit to beingproud of all that he has accomplished since he began his careers, both professional and sports related. His busy schedule means short visits home and, although we talk frequently, I do miss seeing him andMaddi. Now for my wonderful mother, Elaine, she continues to travel back to assist with shows and is also agreat Show News writer. I can always depend on her whether the going is rough or easy. Her sense of

humor and advice is always welcome. I know that she is always ready to help with whatever comes. A true blessing, thanks, Mom, I appreciate your help, wisdom and love!!! And finally, the reason this paper continues, is the unending devotion of my late father, Dan. Our relationship con-tinues although he is not physically here. His wisdom and guidance are still with me despite the passage of time. Iam truly blessed to have the solid foundation he instilled in me to build on. Thank you D.B., for being a part of myheart and life…you continue to make my success possible! Now is the time I take to thank some very important people…you, the crafters and customers. All of you have beenthere for me, my family, and my staff. Big City Skylines Highlights the Toledo Skyline!!!

Big City Skylines is the outlet for MonteEllson’s passion for recording the skylines of cities byprecisely drawing buildings in terms of their height andnumber of floors then using a CAD (computer assisteddesign) program to complete his measurements one

line at a time. The result is magnificent! Currently hehas over 300 cities (including Toledo, Columbus,Indianapolis, Fort Wayne!!!) available in sizes frombookmarks to large wall hangings.

Monte’s pain staking rendering of the NewYork Skyline was in the process of being completed inSeptember 2001. With a heavy heart he donated theproceeds as a memorial to the victims of 9-11. Hisnext New York Skyline is postponed until the TwinTowers construction is completed.

These award winning drawings will be avail-able at the 18th Holiday Craft & Gift Marketplace inMaumee Booth 20 and at the 25th Holiday HandcraftersShowcase & Marketplace in Muncie, Indiana BuildingA, Booth 12.

Linda Burdsall retired after 30years in Tennessee as a teacher and coachand moved to Mount Blanchard, Ohiowhen her husband was transferred.

Linda was early to recognize thetrend to decorate barns with “Barn Quilts”which are large; often 8’ square, colorfulwooden plaques mounted to the side ofbarns and painted to resemble quilt patterns.

Linda realized that not everyone hasa barn on which a quilt could be mounted. So that everyonecould enjoy the art of the quilt patterns she created the “GardenQuilt” which is a smaller version intended to beplaced free standing in a flower bed or mountedto a fence or wall. They add a splash of color toyour flower bed or landscaping and can be positioned on smaller structures such as garages, tool sheds and cabins and can be used indoors aswell.

Constructed with exterior plywood andcoated with multiple layers of premium housepaint they will stand up to the elements of naturefor many years. 14” square Garden Quilts are acommon size but sizes up to 48” square areavailable by special order. Visit with Linda inBuilding H, Booth 13 early for best selection!
