• Not all information from the test administration manual is included in this presentation, so it is imperative that district and school staff read and familiarize themselves with all information in the manual in addition to using these training materials.

FCAT Reading Retake• The FCAT Reading Retake was administered for the last

time in Spring 2012.

• Students who entered grade 9 in Fall 2009 and earlier and who have not yet obtained a passing score on Grade 10 FCAT Reading will take the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake.

What’s New for Fall 2012

Session Information• For the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake, a school must

administer Session 1 to all participating students prior to administering Session 2.

• Any students who are absent for Session 1 of the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake may NOT take Session 2 of the test until they have completed Session 1. These students should still be tested in two sessions over two days.

What’s New for Fall 2012

Student Honor Statement • Prior to testing, students are required to read and

acknowledge a Student Honor Statement that reads: “I understand that giving or receiving unauthorized help during the test is cheating and if I give or receive such help during this test, it will result in the invalidation of my test results.”

• Students taking a computer-based test must read the statement and check a box beside the statement, “I agree” at the beginning of the test. In paper-based tests, a signature line appears below the Student Honor Statement.

Practice Tests• Schools must administer the appropriate practice test(s) using

the ePAT scripts to all students to be tested using the ePAT scripts; however, if a student has previously participated in an ePAT for the subject test he or she will take, the student is not required to participate in an ePAT session for this administration.

• Practice test (ePAT) scripts are no longer included in the test administration manual. The ePATs and ePAT scripts are posted at www.FLAssessments.com/ePATs.

• The link to the ePATs should be provided to all students and their parents/guardians prior to testing so that they can access the ePATs and practice on their own at any time. 11

New TestHear Software• A new version of TestHear that incorporates seal code

functionality for the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake along with other minor updates must be downloaded to each workstation that will be used by students requiring accommodated CBT forms.

• The newest version of TestHear is available at www.FLAssessments.com/downloads.

No Calculators in TestHear• TestHear does not have a built-in four-function calculator.

• Students taking an accommodated CBT form of the FCAT Mathematics Retake MUST be provided with an approved handheld four-function calculator to use during the test, as indicated in the administration script.

Reminders• Inappropriate actions by school or district personnel

before, during, or after test administration may result in consequences such as test invalidations and/or loss of teaching certification.

• ALL test administrators must be certified educators.

• All personnel involved in test administration must read and sign an FCAT/FCAT 2.0 Test Administration and Security Agreement, provided in Appendix E of the Fall 2012 Retake Manual.

• Test administrators must sign a Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement, also provided in Appendix E. 15

Reminders

Leaving Campus• If a student begins a session and leaves campus without

finishing (due to an appointment, illness, etc.), he or she will NOT be allowed to complete that session.

• No exceptions will be made once the student leaves the school’s campus, so parents and students must be made aware of this policy.

• If you have concerns about a student, you should not allow the student to begin. Instead, arrange to administer the test to that student on a make-up day.

Reminders

Electronic Devices Policy • If a student is found with ANY electronic device(s), including, but not

limited to, cell phones and smartphones, during testing OR during breaks (e.g., restroom breaks, lunch), his or her test must be invalidated in order to successfully enforce this policy.

• School personnel must ensure that students do not have access to their cell phones or other electronic devices even if the devices are turned off or the students do not use them, if they will return to complete a test session.

• The best practice would be for students to leave devices at home or in their lockers on the day of testing.

• Students and parents must be made aware of this policy prior to testing. 17

TestHear• Accommodated computer-based test forms (large print, color

contrast, zoom, screen reader, assistive devices) are available for eligible students who have such accommodations identified in their individual educational plans (IEPs) or Section 504 plans.

• These forms will be accessed using the TestHear software. Separate instructions and administration scripts for accommodated forms are provided in Appendix A of the Fall 2012 Retake Manual.

• Students who require accommodated CBT forms must practice using the accommodated ePAT for the specific accommodated form or form combination that they will use during testing. 18

Reminders

Paper-Based Materials• Regular print and braille test materials are available for

eligible students who have such accommodations identified in their IEPs or Section 504 plans.

• Reading Passage Booklets for computer-based Reading tests are available for eligible students with this accommodation indicated in an IEP or Section 504 plan. Although Reading Passage Booklets are included in the category of

paper-based accommodations, eligible students who require them will test on the computer.

Handheld Calculators• After participating in an FCAT Mathematics Retake

practice test, a student may request an approved handheld four-function calculator on the day of testing. Test administrators should have a supply of approved calculators for these students.

Proctor Caching• Proctor Caching is a process of loading or “caching” test content locally

on a computer at the school level.• Does not require a separate caching server and can run on any

workstation on the network that meets minimum requirements.• Proctor Caching software is provided by Pearson.• Reduces test delays due to network congestion.• Provides students with a more seamless testing experience.• Required for all FCAT/FCAT 2.0/EOC computer-based testing in

Test Invalidation• A test MUST be invalidated if either of the following

circumstances occurs: A student has an electronic device during testing A student is cheating during testing A student is given unauthorized help during testing

• A test MAY be invalidated if one of the following circumstances occurs: A student becomes ill and is unable to finish A student is not allowed the correct amount of time A error occurs in the administration of an accommodation A student works in the incorrect session An error occurs in test administration or procedures A disruption occurs during testing

Test Invalidation• District assessment coordinators will advise schools of the

appropriate course of action if invalidation is being considered. Remember that the purpose of invalidation is to identify when the validity of test results has been compromised.

• When a student’s test is invalidated for any reason, record the invalidation in PearsonAccess according to the instructions on pages 93-94 of the Fall 2012 Retake Manual. For paper-based accommodations, return the invalidated test with the DNS bubble(s) gridded with all other TO BE SCORED materials (PBT).

• More information about test invalidation policies may be found on pages 18-19 of the Fall 2012 Retake Manual.

Test Administrator Before Testing Read the test administration manual. Read the Test Administration Policies and Procedures and sign the

FCAT/FCAT 2.0 Test Administration and Security Agreement. Read and sign the Test Administrator Prohibited Activities

Agreement. Establish an appropriate setting for test administration. Prepare and receive all materials needed for test administration. Ensure that your students and parents understand the testing

policies prior to the first day of testing. If you are administering tests to students who require

comfortable seating, good lighting, adequate ventilation, and sufficient workspace.

• Students must not be able to easily view other students’ computer screens or test materials. During the practice test, check the configuration of your testing room to make sure you will be able to provide a secure environment during testing. If necessary, use visual blocks. Discuss any concerns with your school assessment coordinator.

• Post the sign that reads TESTING—Please Do Not Disturb and display starting and stopping times as soon as testing begins. Remove or cover all visual aids in the room. 37

each test session. • If students change seating or are moved to a different location during a test session, a new seating chart must be created.

a group of students testing together.

• Each group of tested students in a testing room should receive a unique test group code.

• Students will enter the test group code before beginning the test, as indicated in the scripts. 50

Test Code Test Group CodeA six-character code created by PearsonAccess and printed on Student Authorization Tickets and Session Rosters. The Login ID and the test code are required to log in to TestNav.

A unique four-digit number created by district assessment coordinators or by school assessment coordinators used to identify groups of students tested together. The test group code is entered after the Welcome screen in TestNav and before students see the first question.

to access Session 2 of the computer-based FCAT 2.0 Reading test after they have completed Session 1.

• Seal codes will be provided in PearsonAccess, and all students in a test session will use the same seal code.

• Seal codes should not be given to students until Day 2 when the Session 2 administration script is read to students.

• Students are not able to return to Session 1 once they have logged in to Session 2. Students will log in using the same Student Authorization Tickets for both test sessions.

Test Administrator Before TestingComputer-Based Test Work Folders• The Florida Computer-Based Testing Work Folder is a piece of

yellow 11x17 paper folded in half with graph paper printed on the back cover. Work folders arrived in your shipment of test administration manuals.

• For the Mathematics test, students are provided with work folders

to work the problems. One work folder should be sufficient for each student; however, students may request additional folders.

• Work folders are to be distributed to students at the beginning of Mathematics test sessions. Test administrators must ensure that students have enough desk space to use their folders.

Communicate Testing Policies to Parents and Students

Electronic Devices Policy—If students are found with ANY electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones and smartphones, during testing OR during breaks, their tests will be invalidated. The best practice would be for students to leave devices at home or in their lockers on the day of testing.

Leaving Campus—If students leave campus before completing the test (for lunch, an appointment, or illness, etc.), they WILL NOT be allowed to complete the test. Students and parents should be aware of this policy. If a student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for the student to wait and be tested on a make-up day.

Student Honor Statement—Prior to testing, students will be asked to acknowledge a Student Honor Statement that reads, “I understand that giving or receiving unauthorized help during the test is cheating and if I give or receive such help during this test, it will result in the invalidation of my test results.” Students taking CBT Retakes may show they have read the statement by clicking a checkbox; in paper-based Retakes, a signature line appears below the statement.
