Dance Repertory Company Presents The Nutcracker Pre-Audition Workshops and Auditions

2

Acting Pre-Audition Workshop: For anyone

who is interested in sharpening their performing skills. This class will focus on projection, enunciation, and improvisation, as well as stage direction and basic acting skills.

Auditions: MCA’s Dance Repertory Company

Nutcracker Auditions will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 at 4pm. Roles are available for actors, dancers, and community members ages 5 to adult, at all levels of experience. Students

under the age of 21 who are cast are required to be enrolled in at least one dance or theatre class at MCA or SMU. A $75 performance fee is required. Auditions are free and open to the public.

Mark your calendars! The Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Party Fundraiser will be held on November 18th with seatings at 1 and 4 pm.

As in the past, this event serves as our major fundraiser for the Dance Repertory Company’s Nutcracker production. Additionally, this year proceeds from aspects of the event will also go toward the MCA student Scholarship Fund.

In addition to hoping you’ll attend, MCA is in need of several volunteers for this event. Assistance is needed for everything from craft making to food preparation to set up and clean up and decorating. Contact Friends of MCA at [email protected] to find out how you can get involved in this wonderful tradition!

Dance Pre-Audition Workshops: These

workshops offer new students the opportunity to both become comfortable with the setting and to learn some basic audition knowledge and etiquette. For advanced dancers, they are an opportunity to get back into the studio prior to audition day.

Vocal Pre-Audition Workshop: For anyone

who is interested in improving their vocal audition skills and technique! This class will focus on tone, pitch, enunciation, projection, and breath support as well as strategies for a successful and memorable audition.

Visual Arts Division

The Visual Arts Division is the newest addition to the MCA family and the final brick in the

foundation of a true conservatory setting. Check out this semester’s offerings and visit us

online for more information or to register!

Art in Motion Students will explore the art of drawing a still life using versatile charcoal techniques to create a powerful drawing, using props from the MCA Nutcracker ballet. These drawings will be exhibited during the Nutcracker performance in the Ben Miller Lobby at the Page Theatre in December 2012. Open to artists of all levels of

experience!

Tunnel Books Create an entire world of your own inside your tunnel book. Look through the window at the front of the book into the three-dimensional imaginative world inside! We will use our basic cutting, folding, gluing, drawing, and collage skills to make this exciting book.

Blank Books With some paper, some thread, and a needle you can make books that are more creative and special than anything you can buy. Take your hand-made books home and fill them with your creativity and imagination, from stories, to drawings, and beyond!

NEW in the Music Division

Jazz Combos! Jazz combos help students learn the art of jazz in a small ensemble setting and will provide basic instruction in jazz-related rhythm, tone, style, concept, listening skills, and improvisation. The ultimate goal of this ensemble is to give interested students the opportunity to study and perform jazz ensemble literature. Groups range in size from four to nine pieces and all instruments are welcome, but space is limited!

Thank You’s Another big THANK YOU needs to go out to all of the volunteers who helped in preparation and marched in the Goodview Days Parade on August 19th. It was a beautiful event and MCA even won the Mayor’s Choice Award. Congratulations to all of the participants!

We would like to start with a very large THANK YOU to everyone who participated in and attended The Concert on the Lawn on August 16th. The performance was a wonderful success and even earned a spot on KTTC News! Look for the link to the T.V. spot on our Facebook page.

We were also very blessed this year to receive donations from both Target and Hyvee of Winona to assist in expenses for the Goodview Days Parade. Their donations went toward purchasing supplies for decorating as well as the sweets that were passed out by our volunteers at the parade. THANK YOU Target and Hyvee!

We are fortunate enough again this year to be receiving funding support from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This operating support grant allows us to continue to offer the wide range of high caliber instruction our community has come to know and love. THANK YOU to all the members of the board for their ongoing generosity.

Our final THANK YOU goes to Mandy Moburg. After 2 years as our Administrative Assistant, Mandy has accepted a new position as the Band Director at Cotter Middle School. While we are wildly happy for Mandy, she will be greatly missed as a member of our team. Good luck Mandy!

Though a great deal of work goes into making our organization operate fluidly, we fully understand that none of it would be possible without our wonderful volunteers. An enormous THANK YOU is in order for our incredible volunteer organization, Friends of MCA and all of our parent volunteers!

Thank You!
