Thank You Words cannot adequately express the gratitude I feel for being able to be a part of this amazing community of Bow

High School and the Bow/Dunbarton School District. These past nine years have made a lasting impression on my life and I take with me all of the kindness, knowledge, caring, laughter, and support I have received from the most

amazing colleagues, students, parents and guardians, administrators, support staff, and community members I have ever encountered in my life.

I will dearly miss the camaraderie of this incredible institution and I will take with me all of the wonderful lessons I have gleaned from my experiences here and I certainly hope that our paths will cross again in the near future.

International Students Dear parents and families,

Bow High School is planning to host as many as two international students for the coming school year. We are work-ing with a US organization (based in Maine) to bring this student (identified below) to Bow for the coming school

year.

We are looking for a family interested in hosting this student for the school year, and I am forwarding the following

Host a Chinese exchange student! Yizhe, who hopes to go by the English name Henry, will be 17 when he arrives in

August and a senior in the fall. About himself, Henry says, "I like sports. I am a basketball and football fan. I hope

to play sports with my future host family and talk with them. I like to talk with people." Henry's parents describe him as open, optimistic and tolerant. He is an excellent student with strong English.

Henry will arrive with health insurance and spending money. Host families provide room and board and receive a stipend for doing so. Local support is provided to student and host family.

The Class of 2015 “Paying it Forward” Each graduating class of BHS leaves a class gift to benefit the school. The Class of 2015’s class officers – President

Casey Iasillo, Vice President Bill Kelso, Secretary Emma Stuart, Treasurer Sean Killion and Historian Leeanna Cmar – wanted to do more. In addition to purchasing new furniture for the Library Media Center, the Class of 2015 also es-

tablished the Class of 2015 “Pay It Forward” Scholarship. The $500 scholarship will be awarded next June to a grad-

uating senior of the Class of 2016. All eligible seniors are encouraged to apply next year. The Class of 2015 hopes the scholarship will remain on going with future classes contributing to the fund.

Performing Arts Department News: Congratulations to Shannon and Kristen Benson for being selected as the drum majors for the 2015-2016 Bow High

School Band! They are our first ever sister drum major pair and we're excited for their leadership next year!

Potential ELO offering Course: South Africa Ecology & Culture: Extended Learning Opportunity -- this course has been approved for the

current year (2014-2015), and will be presented to the School Board depending on the amount of interest.

Instructors: Drew Groves, Dan Calder (projected) in conjunction with Nature Guide Training in South Africa

We have the potential to offer students from Bow High School an "Extended Learning Opportunity" (ELO) opportuni-ty through a hybrid course during the 2015-2016 school year. This course will include on-line, classroom, and field

study. The most exciting component of participating in this course is the required three-week intensive field trip conducted in South Africa, adjacent to the Kruger National Park, in the summer of 2016. Students that are currently

enrolled in this year's South Africa ELO will be traveling there on 7/1/15, for their 3 week adventure.

This is an experiential course where students will be immersed in an intact ecosystem with the Big Five (black rhi-noceros, elephant, lion, leopard, and Cape buffalo) and encouraged to examine their ideas about the environment,

science, culture, art, and the community. Trackers from indigenous communities will be employed to assist instruc-tors and provide opportunities for cultural exchange. Examples of outcomes students can expect are a deeper un-

derstanding of GIS and mapping, field data collection including observation and inference, ecological balance, photo

journalism, and diverse cultures including the arts. Financial aid may be available and all students are expected to participate in fundraising events. For more information, email or have students see me.

Class of 2016

Dear Parent/Guardian of the Class of 2016,

The time has come to plan for the 2016 Bow High School Yearbook. This year every student is eligible to receive a

FREE Senior portrait session with Prestige Portraits. This will ensure that every single senior is represented in the senior portrait gallery of the yearbook with a professional portrait that meets our yearbook specifications. Only por-

traits taken by Prestige will be published in this section of the yearbook.

Prestige Portraits will bring their traveling studio to our school on August 25th and 26th and the photography ses-

sions will take place in the Auditorium. Prestige will return to BHS on October 19th for one last session. Addi-tionally, there will be very limited studio time available on September 19th. The last date for a senior to have

their portrait taken is October 19th.

Prestige Portraits offers a no charge basic session that includes a variety of backgrounds. Each student will be pho-tographed with the moonlight background for at least one pose as that is the background that will be used for the

yearbook portraits. Yearbook portraits are verticals, head/shoulder only, with no hats or props.

We ask that all seniors contact Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch to schedule their portrait session as

soon as possible by calling 1-800-287-4667 Monday through Friday 9:00 to 4:00 or emailing your re-quested appointment time to lgterr@lifetouch.com

Portrait proofs will automatically be mailed to your home. This will provide you the opportunity to preview your sen-ior portraits, make your yearbook selection and decide whether or not your wish to purchase portraits. Portrait

selections must be made by October 30th.

International Chinese Exchange

This summer Bow High School and the surrounding communities will host a cultural exchange camp for twenty-seven high school students from China, through Spiral International from August 2-August 13. The goal of the pro-

gram is to engage young people from China and a selected group of American students and families in experiences that allow them to enjoy each other’s company and to learn firsthand about each other’s culture. This is one of nu-

merous Chinese – American exchanges taking place in Vermont and New Hampshire.

On weekdays, students will participate all day in English language lessons and culture camp activities and excursions, led by local teachers and a selected group of high school students serving as Peer Ambassadors. They will spend

time with host families in the evenings and on the weekend. There will also be several social gatherings bringing together all students and host families.

Host families are needed to house these visiting students along with their two teachers; they are to be housed two in each home.

High school and middle school (grade 7 & 8) students are invited to apply to be Peer Ambassadors, and to partici-

pate in the camp. There will be an evening training session for Ambassadors and a host family orientation meeting.

At a time when China has risen rapidly on the international stage, this short exchange in our communities is a prom-

ising opportunity to create new friendships.For more information please contact:
