At SU, this was a month of near closed doors in the sense that the MOE had advised schools to refrain from indulging religious activi- ties and programs in their school (see Page 4). Since then, we choose to stay at the hallway and Praise God knowing that He is in control. We have witnessed divine blessings and miracles and God reminds us that He is still our Provider, He is still in control. The revelation of a provider God gives us peace and re- minds us to keep our eyes focused on King Jesus. This month, we also hosted the 1st term rally and saw over 800 stu- dents (see page 3) attend and be blessed with the Word of God and the fellowship that day. It was also a busy month for our volun- teers as they visit schools and prepare for the Youth Nighted event (pages 6 and 7). Just seeing the passion of SWG Suva volunteers take their calling seriously is a blessings. Apart from going out in schools, these young men and women spend time fasting and praying for the ministry and their work in schools as well as organize a Bible Study night every Wednesday as they learn the Word of God together. We also read Ruth’s testimony (Page 5) and Soni’s inspiration (Page 2). Praise God for what He is doing in the lives of young people and in SU; and it has been a month of Praising God in the hallway. Psalm 121:1-2 KJV [1] … I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. [2] My help cometh from the Lord,

which made heaven and earth.

This year I decided to join the School Working Group( SWG ) for the first time because while in school, God used this group to reach out to me, my friends, and other schools. While staying in boarding school which is open to any kind of influ-ence, I was thankful to God for SU Fiji for reminding me of my identity in Jesus Christ. One day I told myself that I would join this group of youths to be used by Jesus Christ for the extension of His Kingdom and to a make difference in someone’s life as some of them did in my life. Joining the SWG, I was elected by the volunteers to be the Assistant Treas-urer for 2014. I was shocked.... I was thinking " How could I be the Assistant Treasurer!!....

I just started this year!!.."Well Gods words are true, HE HAS A PLAN FOR US , FOR ALL OF US [ Jeremiah 29:11 ].To tell you the truth, I was kind of worried when the planning for the year came up...worried about balancing SWG and school work, school fees, family, and many other things.

But I recall a saying that goes.." Don't tell God how big your mountain is, but tell the mountain how BIG your God is. " So when our Treasurer left us at the end of this month migrating to Australia, I be-came the Treasurer and I know that it isn't easy. But HE IS BY MYSIDE on this climb up the mountain [Hebrew 13:5 ].But I know that Jesus never promised that doing HIS WILL was easy and I also know that behind every struggles their is a reward and PEACE, so hold on and NEVER SAY DIE as my House Moto in boarding school and treat your problem as an opportunity for you to be BLESSED and move a level up towards God. I think the only thing that keeps me burning for Jesus is BELIVING IN HIS WORD and LIVING BY FAITH. Without FAITH it is impossible to please God

[ Hebrews 11:6 ]. When I tend to go by faith, its just like jumping off a cliff and BELIVING God will catch me. I'll share just a moment. "One day after school I had only $2.00 which wasn't enough to get me home. So I decided to walk the other way home and hopefully a bus could pick me up on the way and drop me off near my area but still quite a walk-ing distance home. But no bus stoped and I knew if I caught a cab, it would cost around $5-$7. So I PRAYED and BE-LIVED in HIM by FAITH.

I decided to catch a cab and told the cab driver just to drop me off where ever the meter reaches $2.00 so I can save some energy and shorten the road home. Just to cut the long story short, I was dropped in front of my house for just $2.00." Its just like that song.. " Every day with Je-sus is Sweeter than the day before,..." Lastly, I thank God for My Family and Friends and for every struggle He has put us through which helped mould our character and attitude. Due to limited space, I'll just stop here. But remember in ALL THINGS GIVE THANKS [ 1 Thessa-lonians 5:18 ].

Radini Talatala Lusi Leqa is one of our key volunteers in the west. Based in Lautoka with her husband, Pastor Pati, the couple are excited to be involved withy the work of Scripture Union in the west and particularly as they see a mighty move of God in Western schools. At Na-tabua High School, Mrs Leqa notes that over 90 students are attending the SUIS program in schools where they are enjoying the games and indepth bible studies they share during their fellowships. Lautoka Andhra Secondary School through their Principal, Mrs Aruna Singh and Ba Provincial Freebird Institution through Principal Mrs Kaloucava have given SUIS Western

the GO to commence SUIS fellowship in their schools. At Jasper Williams, Master Mclaren is continuing the SUIS program with the school deaconess. Other discussions are taking place with Lautoka Muslim College and responses are awaited from Tilak High School, Lautoka Central and Saint Thomas High School for the commencement of SUIS. Radini Leqa’s passion for this work in schools and her commitment to ensuring that students have the opportunity to strengthen their individual faith in school is part of her motivation to keep serving in schools even in the face of challenges. As a partner with her husband in a busy Lau-toka church, the couple’s passion and lives have and continue to impact the many young people that they have counselled, ad-vised and inspired for Christ. Lusi Leqa is a gifted missionary valiantly serving with our other Western volunteers in schools.

Seru Colanavanua is a young man who is passionate about his

walk with the Lord. Like most of his high school friends. Seru is

a quite young man serving with Scripture Union but has had

his influence and impact felt especially in his Marist Brothers

High School Christian fellowship group. As an ex-scholar, he

knows how

difficult it was to

get a SUIS pro-

gram running at

the school,

however that

did not deter

him or his friends from having their fellowship. Early this year,

Seru and his family were granted their PR to settle in Australia,

and since then, this energetic volunteer has left to settle in

Darwin. Seru acknowledges that through SU, his faith has real-

ly sored and it has encouraged him as a young man and now

as a missionary in Darwin. Seru’s encouragement to other vol-

unteers is for

them to keep

trusting God’s

will in their

lives as He is

still a Faithful

Approximately 800 students from various secondary school around Suva flocked into the Dilkusha Secondary School in Nausori on Saturday 15th March 2014 for the first term Central/Easter SUIS rally. With the theme, “Choose you this Day”, from Joshua 24:15, the students and the many present this day were blessed with the sharing of the Word from young firebrand, Pastor Ralulu from Nadi. The rally was a crowd drawer as students were challenged about the importance of Choosing Christ and choosing Life. Following the dynamic challenge from the Speaker, students were given the opportunity to go into groups and do a post-mortem analysis of the sharing. The discussions were rich

and varied as they tried to contextualise and understand the sig-nificance of Joshua’s bold declaration to Israel about Choosing to serve God. Choice for young people is often challenging and driv-en by many factors from peer pressure, to family, community, school and church pressures. As a consequence of the many choices that children have many children are struggling with mak-ing right ones. The rally provided the opportunity for the children to learn about God and why choosing Him strengthens their identi-ty, character and life. The message was about giving children the power to make the right choice. As emphasised by the event theme, that Choice would be there’s to make. The rally also ena-bled many schools to come together with the common unity of

Christian fellowship in worship, fellowships and exciting items and dances. It was a life-changing for many.

When doors open for schools ministry and more on the 1st Term Central Schools rally

FAITH SEED NEWSLETTER

In some not distant past, it would be unforseen for schools to be told that they can no longer pray or hold religious classes. Scripture Union Fiji has served for more than 50 years in this country and from its inception, one would foresee the missionary challenges as distances to be travelled, raising enough financial support to sustain the ministry, religious doctrines to be minded etc. I heard of the stories of one of our pioneer missionaries, fondly known as Uncle Mesu (Mr. Mesulame Nainoca) who hiked mountains, swam across rivers, crossed valleys and walked miles just to be able to share Christ in schools. His passion and legacy today remains in his family and in Scripture Union, a ministry he lovingly served. I remember as a member of SUIS my-self during my school days, the carefree nature that we had, the freedom to be able to walk into our school chapel and worship the Lord freely. I remember the tears, the prayers, the fellowships and the endless hours just spent loving God in High School with my brothers in the faith. Today, this landscape is changing dramatically. In fact only a few weeks ago, an email was sent to SGS from the Ministry of Education stating amongst others, “the way forward now is to stop all public officers (teachers, administrative cadre) at Suva Grammar from conducting any form of religious teaching or education at the school…” The content of the email was widely circulated both by email and Facebook with concerns raised on the nature of our work in schools. As a former member of SUIS, the directive was for me a sad reality of the increasing challenges we now face in our mission work in schools. However the government has since clarified that this interpretation by the official at the MOE was “misleading and incorrect” and that “Government schools are at liberty to organise prayers for school assem-

blies and gatherings in the name of God. “(AG, School Prayer Allowed, FBC News, March 12, 2014). We received with abated breath this wonderful news and answers to prayers during a brief period of uncertainly following the directive. We note that chal-lenges as such will continue yet we are at peace knowing that God opens doors for opportunities and we must learn to trust Him daily. Since the clarification, we continued with our rally program and it was an Open Door as many students and schools who came voluntarily were blessed with the program and message for the day. As a family and young people focussed ministry, SU’s doors remains open for opportunities to serve God. As a ministry and through our volunteers, we are recognised by the Fiji Teachers Registration Board as an institution that “may have skills and training to help students.” We thank God for many open doors as we continue our outreach for His Cause. Until He opens the next doors, we remain

in praises at the hallway. God is definitely Good—All the time.

Ruth Mudreilagi was the head-girl of Suva Grammar School in 2013. This was also her final year at the school and apart from her leadership and achievement, Ruth attended the Annual Scripture Union camp at Jasper Williams High School. Her final year in school and also her last camp as a student. Early this year, Ruth left for Brisbane, Aus-tralia to continue her studies and work towards a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Environment Management. Ruth is an emerging young leader, and being the daughter of Basden College Principal and SU Council Member, Master Mika Mudreilagi, Ruth is on her way to becoming an influence in the Kingdom of God. Faith Seed recently caught up with Ruth and asked for her testimony.

Bio data: Second eldest of six siblings Koro: I hail from the beautiful island of Keteira Moala Lau vasu i Vunikodi Vanualevu. Educational Achievements: Primary school in Annesley Prima-ry Sch (Cl 1-3), Suva Methodist Pri Sch (Cl 4) and finished off in Veiuto Primary School. Completed Secondary studies in SGS and was blessed to be chosen as a prefect in F5&6 and as the head girl in f7. Was also Form Captain from F3 right through to F7& was elected as house captain for red house. Journey With the Saviour King I gave my life when I was in F5, had my fair share of downfalls (John 16:33), made a recommitment when I was in form 7 and was baptised on my 18th birthday by none other than my Dad! Accepting Jesus as my personal saviour was the best decision I've ever made!! And where I am today is all because of Gods unmerited favour and unconditional love. (Jeremiah 29:11)

SUIS experiences and Annual Camp life changing event Yes I was lucky enough to be introduced into SUIS by Dad at an early age and came to be Vice President of the SGSCF under the leadership of John Tuivanuakula. I have a passion for dancing and through SUIS I was able to express that. SUIS had a large impact in my life because amid the hectic duties in school and peer pressure it somewhat kept me sane and I saw it as a safe haven that i could always turn too. It also was a platform where i could share the gospel, extend His kingdom & work alongside others for the betterment of rival schools like Marist and Grammar.

Attending the annual camp for the first time in all my high school years was a life changing experience! I mean this because my perception was that it was "Just another Christian camp" What I didn’t know was that this special camp (in my opinion) that was a "MUST ATTEND" thanks to Dad was going to change me; from forgiving wholeheartedly and letting go of things that had hurt me in the past to building my Christian faith drastically, I consider myself blessed to have attended camp. Being the only proud Grammarian attending, this also gave me an opportunity to meet new people and make life long friendships with Christian brothers and sisters. I also got to hear inspirational testimonies from Ticia Konusi, Mrs Maraiya Tavui and other indi-viduals and to them I am grateful. I also got to see God work in the life of others and feel peace that this world could not offer when i drew into His presence.

Advice to young people Advice Ecc 12:1 'Remember now your creator in the days of your youth, before the days of dismal come..' and Pro 3:7-8 'Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.' Medi-tate on His word day and night, pray without ceasing, seek first the kingdom of Go, get wisdom and go M.A.D!!

Support for the work of SU Yes I definitely believe that people should sow into SU in schools because you are equipping the future gen-eration with Godly principles who will than go out into the world be of good influence and simply because a flourishing life will add to or enhance the work of the Lord. THIS IS OUR GREAT COMMISSION. "The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you his peace."

Pastor Manasa Kolivuso to Challenge Peo-ple on Daring to be Different

What does being different look like for young people in to-day’s world. At a time when looks, speech, attitudes and rela-tionships are dictated to by the media and peer pressures, a young person can often find themselves under much pres-sure to conform or be different. And it is often a cruel environ-ment for those that are different. For those that are not part of the “cool crowd” often defined by young people as those that are probably smoking, drinking, into relationships, dressing in the latest fashion and the likes, this yearning for companion-

ship can be a lonely experience.

It is often a difficult environment for young people who are choosing to be different— making a stand as a Christian however is really what being cool looks like. This will be some of the revelations that Pastor Manasa, the Director for Every Home for Christ who was until recently serving in Asia in this office will bring to Youth Nited 2014. Pst Manasa is a youth pastor whose passionate and clear teaching style

speaks into the lives of many people.

This anticipated event on the Cokes Night is targeted to breaking down school rivalry in an environment where all are equal and loved by God. It is a spiritually planned evening where Jesus is the only one that matters and students can come and worship Him together and be inspired by the Word. This Annual event by Scripture Union is a time of celebra-tions of the victory that Christ alone gives through the Cross. [See Page 7 for our Chairman’s Request towards Youth

Nited] . The challenge is out there—Dare to Be Different

Suva School Volunteer’s school’s mission strategy

Suva SWG Volunteers have since this year devised a strategy of assisting the SU office effectively fulfil its work in schools. In the form of a cell network, the SWG have divided themselves into groups to assist in reaching to our schools in their zones. These include Suva, Nausori, Tailevu and Nasinu zones. In their different

zones, the leaders then coordinate schools visit and other related mission work in schools. In preparing for the upcoming Coca Cola Games Youth Nited, the different zone coordina-tors have been spending time with their zone schools preparing items and other “surprises” planned for this year’s Coke Games. These volunteers have to fund their own way into schools and sacrifice their free times to ensure that students experience the joys of fellowship and being part of what God is doing in schools and even by connecting them with other

schools. To see their passion, joy and excitement as they venture in schools is a rewarding experience for most of us serving alongside these volunteers. These volun-teers are making an impact in schools and in the lives of many young people and wit the Youth Nited planned and a flash mob, these are definitely activities not to be missed.

Ni sa bula vinaka; Chairman, Sitiveni Kalou’s plea for assistance for Youth Nited

I bring warm greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ; our risen Lord and Savior, and on behalf of Scripture Union Fiji. It is my prayer that this humble correspondence finds you in good health and high spirits. I am especially writing to you on behalf of the Organizing Committee of one of Scripture Union Fiji’s premier youth events; which is now more popularly known as “YOUTH-NITED”. The purpose of this brief note is to seek your support for the staging of “YOUTH-NITED 2014”. This event has over the years developed into a major gathering of young people from all over Fiji. It is organized to coincide with Annual Fiji Secondary Schools National Athletics Championships (Coca Cola Games) which draws thousands of teenagers and youth to the capital. “YOUTH-NITED 2014” is planned for the evening of the 26th of April at the FMF Gymnasium. With theme “DARE TO BE DIF-FERENT” (Romans 12:2); the Organizing Committee is putting together what will be a powerful, non-stop, mind blowing and life changing four hour program that will see hundreds of young people from different walks of life not only come together to cele-brate God’s goodness in a venue and atmosphere that is free of alcohol, drugs and rivalry; but equally important it will also be an avenue where they will be challenged, encouraged and hopefully inspired; to be the best that they can be as an individual and a responsible member of society. The main program will consist of performances by SUIS (Scripture Union In Schools) groups and other invited groups and special performances by guest artists. There will also be brief interactive sessions with the audience by well known personalities and other innovative programs that will keep those in attendance on the edge of their seats as both their

intellect and decision making patterns are put to the test.

Unfortunately however; the “YOUTH-NITED 2014” Organizing Committee has experienced a number of challenges; prominent among them, is the securing of corporate sponsorship for this worthy cause. It might also be worth mentioning that the event is “admission free”; thus Scripture Union does not get any revenue, which would have assisted in defraying expenses. The Organ-izing Committee has identified a budget of approximately $7,500 (FJD) that will cover both; incidentals arising out of the prepara-tions and staging of the “flashmob” at the Coca Cola Games, and the cost of sound, lights, technology, structures (stage and general scaffolding works), hosting expenses (for teams that will be coming in from outside Suva and refreshments for the esti-mated 500 plus performers), logistics (transport and communications), event management, crew expenses and advertising relat-

ing to the evening program.

I humbly appeal to you, to consider making not only a love gift, but a seed investment into the lives of the many young people who will be in attendance at “YOUTH-NITED 2014”. As hundreds of young people come back from “YOUTH-NITED 2014” ener-gized and inspired to exist for God and be better individuals, your “investment” will have made an impact in “eternity”.

You can make a donation through one of the following modes:

*An official Scripture Union Fiji receipt will be issued immediately thereafter. All donations will be automatically acknowledged at “YOUTH-NITED 2014” and in its related reports, unless expressly wished otherwise by individual donor. I hope that the above infor-mation will be useful in helping you make a decision on supporting

Scripture Union Fiji stage “YOUTH-NITED 2014”. I am available to answer any further queries that you might have. I look forward

to hearing from you. Sitiveni Kalou, Chairman, M: (679) 9258606, Email: [email protected]

The work of Scripture Union is privately funded by those who prayerfully consider giving to support the work of student minis-tries. Unlike the church or organisations whose funding is from established sources, SU has to rely on the good will of friends to be able to meet its financial obligations such as paying rent, bills, programs such as rallies, camps, schools visita-tion and a range of activities to encour-age our children in schools on a month-ly basis. Every year the cost of student ministry increases and so do the chal-lenges and struggles that young people are confronted with. The pressure to raise children who know God through the Bible is not com-plete without introducing young people to the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour.

This is the work of Scripture Union in schools and despite the many financial challenges over the years, we have held onto this important part of our work by going into schools to minister to young people about making right choices in their lives. This is where your faith seed will go into amongst oth-

ers. It is about investing in the life of our children so that they can know Christ and make His known. We know that our financial investment in this regard is secured in eternity. In considering whether to partner with Scripture Union

one of our current partners stated that,

“I believe that the few dollars I put into the work of SU may not be much, but I am inspired to know that this investment will change a life and that for me is an eternal investment worth making.” To see

lives change is a blessing.

Scripture Union is in the forefront of impacting the next gen-eration of young people for the Lord. By investing in Scrip-ture Union’s work, we are investing into the next generation of Christian leaders, pastors, civil servants, NGO workers and the nation as a whole as we challenge and raise up the next generation of champions for Jesus Christ. This invest-ment is probably the best one can make as we partner to-gether in this Great Commission in our schools.

SU Basket tea fellowship raises support for SU In March, the SU office organised a proposed monthly basket tea fel-lowship at the SU office. With various pastries and delights, the basket tea was an opportunity for partners and friends of SU to hear of the pro-gress of our work, meet each other and just spend time appreciating the beauty of the extended network of our ministries. With representatives from Bible Society, Awana Ministries, Life-line Ministries, churches, civil society and friends of SU, this event was filled with blessings as we reminisced God’s ever faithfulness and blessings in opening doors of opportunities for our work. However the fellowship provided the oppor-tunity for people to be hear of the work of SU this few weeks and plant a faith seed into our schools mission. A little over 40 people attended this basket tea fellowship but their heart of giving was manifested a we raised funds to support SU Fiji. Cindy Waqavonovono a volunteer and post graduate student at USP shared about how her life was impacted and changed by SUIS during her high school time at Gospel High School. Cindy represents many more young people like her whose lives were impacted and changed completely because SU in obedience to God’s Great Commission shared Christ to them. A few dollars sown into our work is quantified or multiplied by the many lives that get changed in the process, because we invest these seeds into our work with young people. Many of our team volunteer with their life, time, resources with-out getting a cent, but they do it anyway, because they have experi-enced the joy, peace and satisfaction that comes from knowing Christ and for many this was through the work of SUIS. Our next basket tea is now scheduled for April. Talk to our the SU Office (see address on left) to find our more information. Blessings
