THE MEANING OF THE SYMBOL

Forgiven and freed by grace through faith, the central figure stands in praise.

Rooted in faith, the trio of women emerge. The outline of the central figure forms a cross. We

are Presbyterian Women, engrafted in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is no longer we

who live, but Christ who lives in us.

The right figure holds a book to guide her reading, studying, praying, or meditating.

The left figure reaches out to care for others, as she shares, nurtures, and heals. The circle

represents the church worldwide where women offer their gifts and talents in the midst of the

global community.

The uplifted arms of the central figure reach out to embrace a just peace. The relationship

between the three figures depicts lives of wholeness rather than turmoil.

The three women have no distinct features. They represent all women. The shapes

surrounding them express energy, strength, and openness.

Our name, Presbyterian Women, ties us to our denomination. The Bible resembles the Bible

depicted in the PC (U.S.A.) Seal. Guided by purpose, Presbyterian Women witnesses to the

reality of God’s present realm.

MEMBERSHIP IN PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

All women members of Faith Presbyterian Church who wish to participate are members of

Presbyterian Women. Non-church members are also eligible and welcome to join. Anyone who

has elected to be inactive may become active upon request by contacting the Presbyterian

Women Moderator, Vice Moderator, or a Circle Leader.

Presbyterian Women are under the sponsorship of the Session of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Since the Church operates on a unified budget, the Church treasury provides funding. “Love

Offerings” for selected circle projects, special occasions, and circle “Joys” are separate

collections.

Circles meet the second week of each month, from September through May. It is at the

discretion of each circle as to whether it will meet in the month of June. Circle meeting times

are listed on page 9. Circles provide fellowship, Bible study, prayer and opportunities for

service to our church and community.

2018-19 GOALS

* Welcome all women members at Faith Presbyterian to participate in some small group

activity - circle, ministries, Bible study or other area

* Invite all new women members of Faith to active participation in Presbyterian Women

* Document and share the ministries of our Presbyterian Women with the congregation,

the Session, and the Presbytery

* Continue to support seminary scholarships, students and missions

* Increase our stewardship and be more active with hands on involvement in our

ministries

Ministry: A ministry of the PCUSA to Presbyterian university students at Florida State

University, FAMU, TCC and other local colleges.

Theological Fund of the Presbyterian Church USA

Ministry: Contributions assist in the theological education of seminary students for ministry

within the denomination.

Mission Trips:

Faith Presbyterian Church has a history of sending out teams to join hands in ministry with

brothers and sisters in Christ in other places. Internationally, our teams have gone to locations

such as Costa Rica, Haiti, Mexico, St. Vincent, Nevis, Malawi, Brazil, Jamaica, and Madagascar.

Domestically, teams have also done ministry in South Dakota, and in the inner cities of Atlanta,

Washington D.C. and Denver. A team has also ministered closer to home, in Quincy, Florida,

working among immigrants from Mexico and Central America. Other mission teams have

participated in Hurricane Relief work in Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi.

In addition to the ministries listed, Faith’s Presbyterian Women also contribute to other

ministries and missionary projects, as a need arises. Faith Presbyterian Church is committed to

mission work and each year the annual Christmas Offerings are dedicated and used for this

area of ministry. These ministries are under the supervision of the Witness Committee of the

church.

TREASURER INFORMATION

At the first Coordinating Team meeting, each Circle Chairman will be given a copy of the

annual Presbyterian Women budget, explanations of the various line items of the budget, Circle

Treasurer Report forms for the year, and other information that may be helpful. Below are

guidelines for handling circle funds.

• At the first Circle meeting of the year, please designate a Circle Treasurer. The Circle

Chairman may also act as Circle Treasurer.

• Monthly donations received at Circle meetings should be submitted to the PW

Treasurer immediately following the meeting, along with the Circle Treasurer

Report. We encourage members to write checks for monetary donations, but cash is

received, the Circle Treasurer should write a personal check to Presbyterian Women

and they should keep the cash as reimbursement. The PW Treasurer will keep an

accounting of the funds held for each circle.

• All checks should be made payable to: PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN.

• If a Circle Treasurer or Chair needs to have a check issued by the PW Treasurer, they

must request this on the Circle Treasurer Report form.

• Funds and Circle Treasurer Reports should be delivered in a sealed envelope to the

PW Treasurer’s box in the church office.
