Pastor Ben’s Corner What is Your Legacy?
“One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”
– Psalm 145:4 I love my tools! I don’t love them because I am
good with them…far from it. In fact, every time I
complete a project or look at the projects I have
not completed (sorry, Anna), I am reminded of
just how far I have to go. The objects hanging on
my walls, sitting on my floors and others forever
ingrained in my memories are the works of the
skills and abilities of my Grandfathers, the men
who inspired in me a desire to mold and shape
wood into useful and meaningful items.
I remember sitting and watching my Grandpa K.
working in his shop and thinking, “I wish I was
patient enough to make things like him.” I
remember watching my PopPop (my Grandpa
B.) fixing an air conditioning unit, or doing some
random wood project that a family member put
before him and thinking, “I want to be like that.”
Finally, I remember my Dad telling me, “It’s not
what is easy, it is about God’s calling.” Or my
Mom setting herself aside for the sake of others,
putting their needs before her own, even if it
meant rubbing the feet of her teenage son after
a practice.
Why do I bring up these stories? Because our
legacy matters! What we leave behind matters.
In life, the legacy we tend to focus upon is what
we want to achieve, what we want to inspire,
and even who we want to make successful. And
yet the reality is all of those things are
temporary! They don’t carry an eternal weight.
Now at first glance, most of us would start
pointing the finger inwards, saying, “Well, I get it
pastor, what you’re telling me is that if my
children fall away from the faith it is ‘my fault’!”
Far from it, what I am telling you is that it’s not
about OUR legacy, it is about Christ’s legacy! It
is about Christ making His dwelling within us
and then shining through us. We are the tools
not the builder.
It is just as Paul writes in Romans 8:37-39, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Our legacy is not bound up with our own actions
nor dependent upon our abilities. Rather, each
of our legacies is completely and utterly
dependent upon the actions of Jesus Christ.
Our legacy is the fact that in Jesus Christ we are forgiven, and so are those who will follow after us.
We trust not in our abilities but in the abilities of
the Holy Spirit, the very breath of God, who
blows where He will blow and sustain the hearts
of His beloved children. And there is no greater
legacy than that.
Sincerely, ><>Pastor Ben Braun

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class There will be one adult Bible class on Sunday mornings this summer beginning June 19. We will meet in the Auditorium from 9:45-10:40 each Sunday morning. From June 19-July 31 we will study the following:
I Am N
This unusual title befits this unusual class. This class will study what’s happening to Christians in other parts of the world
right now. The headlines from around the world are staggering as we read about Christians persecuted for their faith. What
can we learn from those who risk their lives every day for their faith? How do we best respond spiritually and practically to
news reports of persecuted Christians? They risk everything for their faith. This powerful video curriculum takes you into the
true stories of Christians living in Muslim countries around the world. Each 10-15 minute video session includes real-life
footage of the persecuted church along with commentary and teaching. As you explore these six themes—forgiveness,
sacrifice, faithfulness, joy, perseverance, and courage—you will be inspired to make a difference right where you are.
This class is NOT about making you feel bad – it’s about inspiring you!
Children’s and Family Ministry As we move into June, we would like to thank all our wonderful teachers and shepherds who devote time every week to
preparing lessons and every Sunday morning to teaching our children about God’s Word. We appreciate all the time and
energy they put into making Sunday School a meaningful and fun experience for our children.
During the last rotation of the school year, students will be learning about Paul’s shipwreck. Please join us as we study this
important time in Paul’s life. We will learn about Paul’s faith even in tough times and how he used his shared faith in God to
teach others.
The last day of Sunday School will be June 19. Kid’s Time will continue through the summer during the 10:45 service for 3-
year-olds through 3rd graders. During this time, the kids will hear the lesson of the day followed by a craft and/or game to
reinforce the lesson. Kids will leave after the Children’s Message and return during Announcements. Nursery will continue
to be available during the 8:30 service, Education Hour, and 10:45 service throughout the summer for infants through kids
who are three years old.
VBS is quickly approaching. Please see the VBS pages for more information.

A Prayer for Music Appreciation Sunday
As we celebrate the gifts of our musicians at Faith during our worship on June 5, I am reminded of this
“Musicians Prayer.” It is a favorite of mine. I believe it is the heart of what we as musicians hope for
each Sunday in worship.
God, please bless my music That it might glorify your name,
May using it to serve you Always be my aim.
Let it be a witness
To your majesty and love, And remind us that you're watching
From your throne above.
May others see your beauty In every note they hear,
And when they hear my music May they feel your presence near.
Oh Lord, I ask for guidance
In everything I do, And pray you'll make my music
An instrument for you. May God richly bless you through the efforts of our many musicians at Faith!
Dianne Christensen

================================================================== The Prayer Shawl Ministry had a good meeting in May. Marie Ferner and
Laurelle Cancelli each came with a shawl they had finished. Carol Letky
came with two shawls. Nice work, ladies! The meeting started with an
opening devotion by Sue Hutchings. Sue then gave her treasurer's
report. Our next display was discussed. A date was set for the 26th of
June. A new poster was worked on. Lots of knitting, crocheting and
chatting was done. The new shawls were blessed. Our next meeting will
be Monday, June 6th, 7pm at church in Room 204. All are welcome. Any
questions call Doris Florance at 236-1597.
If you know of someone you would like to receive a prayer shawl, just
contact any person listed above and she would be happy to help you select a shawl for them. Also, if you
would be willing to knit shawls for our ministry but can't make our meetings, you may do so at home.
There are patterns in manila envelopes attached to the bulletin board across from the church office.
You can place your completed shawl in a bag with your name on it in the church office. Your help would
be greatly appreciated.

Women’s Book Group Fall Selection The Women’s Book Group is reading Me Before You, by Jojo Moyes for the fall. The novel, which has also been made into a
film, “is a page turner that sucks the reader into caring about the fate of the heroine. A 26-year-
old woman named Louisa takes a job caring for Will, a 35-year-old quadriplegic. They make an
unusual pair, throwing each other off balance. How the relationship develops between Will and
Louisa is absolutely riveting” (USA Today).
Come join us in October for a lively discussion this fall. For more information, contact Rae
Usinger (381-1391) or Barb Riethmeier (381-0779).
