We’ll discuss how caring for children is such an effective discipline in shaping our souls and forming the character of Christ within us. This will be a casual, 6-week discussion group that will meet from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Sundays on the main level at the American Legion (please use back (North) entrance) starting September 20. While your children are in Sunday School, join us for some coffee and pastries, some good discussion and support, then worship together as a family at 10:30 a.m.

∗ The Women’s Friday 6:30 a.m. (yes, a.m.) Bible Study started a new study on Friday, September 11. It’s not to late to join us for the Women of Faith “Contagious Joy” study. If you're yearning for a more joyful outlook on life, take a look at this uniquely Christian characteristic with this Women of Faith Bible study guide. Discussion questions, stories, quotes, reflection and prayer will help you cultivate the fruit of joy. If you have any questions, would like more information about, or to sign up for the study, please contact Nancy Schultz at 583-2518 or Jackie in the church office. The books are $7.50 each and are available in the church office.

∗ The Friday 9:00 a.m. Women’s Bible Study started a new study on Friday, September 11 at 9:00 a.m. - The Bible Study will be on “God’s Reluctant Leaders.” This Bible Study focuses on the stories of three biblical characters: Jonah, Gideon, and Moses. Faith Lutheran Church Women (FLCW) ∗ The Tri-Conference Fall Retreat will

The presenter for the day will be Pearl Grev on “Well Dressed Feet.” The cost is $10.00 which includes registration, coffee and noon lunch. Registration information available in the church office.

Service & Outreach ∗ A Prayer Shawl Gathering

will be held on Monday, September 21 at 3:30 p.m. at FLC North (Please note new location). A gathering for anyone currently involved in our Prayer Shawl Ministry, for those who would like to get involved, and for those who want more information about the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Bring your shawls in progress and bring a friend for an afternoon of knitting/crocheting, laughing, and fellowship!

Music Ministries ∗ Do you love to sing? If so,

Faith Singers is for you!! Faith Singers Choir is open to High Schoolers thru Seniors - men and women. All that is required is a desire to sing and a commitment to enhance our Sunday worship. Rehearsals will be Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning September 9. The choir will not be practicing on September 23 or 30. The choir will sing at the 8:00 a.m. worship service on the first and third Sundays of most months. Dave Skaar will be directing the choir.

∗ New this fall…. Celebration Bell Choir... When it comes to ringing handbells in the Celebration Choir, teamwork is the name of the game. Having fun, making new friends, being challenged, and creating interesting and beautiful music are the main goals. Fifth and Sixth grade students meet for practice on Wednesdays beginning

September 16 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at FLC North . It is a great way for students to be involved in the worship at Faith. Come hang out at 2:30 p.m. (adult supervised) and then attend the new “fifty sixers” program which will meet on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

FLC Seniors ∗ Seniors Potluck meets

Thursday, September 24, with potluck dinner at 12:00 noon. During this time of construction we are meeting at other locations. This month’s meeting will be held at the Village Cooperative great room, a great place to meet. The Coop is at 1300 Sherwood St. SE. Marsha Schmit, who was a delegate to the ELCA Churchwide Assembly, will give us a firsthand report on the action that took place in Minneapolis. Come, and bring a friend.

∗ McLeod County Senior Expo 2009. Senior Citizens can benefit greatly by attending this event on Tuesday, September 22, beginning at 8:00 a.m., at the Hutchinson Event Center. Keynote speaker is the popular Doug Ohman, who shares photographs of “Vanishing Landmarks,”---barns, schoolhouses, churches and courthouses. The Expo includes small, educational interest groups (you can attend 3) on subjects like H1N1 flu information, safety issues for Seniors, and much more. For

Praying for you As a part of 40 Weeks of Faithfulness, the Spiritual Directions Team will be praying for every Faith Lutheran family. Each week we will be praying for families who are listed (alphabetically) in the bulletin. The list will change weekly until at the end of 40 weeks, we will have prayed for every family! New Sunday Worship Times and Sunday School begin today, Sunday, September 13

Faith on Main

8:00 a.m. - Faith First - Traditional worship primarily using the Lutheran Book of Worship.

9:15 a.m. - Faith Praise - Praise music with 1st - 6th graders from 9:15 - 9:30 a.m. (everyone welcome) immediately followed by a 45-minute worship service of Word and song incorporating contemporary and popular Christian music resources.

9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. - Sunday School/Confirmation for 3 year olds - 8th graders.

3 year olds - Kindergarteners - meet in your classrooms in the South Fellowship Hall.

1st - 6th Graders meet in the Church sanctuary at 9:15 a.m. If children arrive early, please have them wait in the East entrance where volunteers will be waiting to take them up to the Sanctuary. For the first 15 minutes they will worship with music, prayer, and a quick introduction to the lesson. Then, volunteers will help bring the children to their classrooms in the FLC North building where they will continue with the lesson.

7th - 8th Graders - meet at Faith on Grove. A shuttle will be available to bring youth from Faith on Main to Faith on Grove.

10:30 a.m. - Faith Celebration - A worship service that incorporates both traditional and contemporary worship styles using the Lutheran Book of Worship, With One Voice, and contemporary music resources.

Greenhouse Worship

6:30 p.m. - In the casual setting of Faith on Grove, this contemporary service will be led by the FoG adult and youth bands.

Wednesday Evening Worship Wednesday evening worship is an additional worship opportunity. The preaching theme will be based on the previous Sunday and the worship style will be similar to our 9:15 a.m. worship service. Children attend Worship with their family and leave for FaithWeavers at 6:50 p.m.

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. - Family Worship Service 6:50 - 7:30 p.m. - FaithWeavers for 3-year olds - fourth graders

entertainment we’ll hear the “Kitchen Band” from Hector, plus there will be vendors of interest for you to get other information. Tickets are $8.00, which includes everything and are available at the Event Center, Peace Lutheran and the nutrition site. Tickets must be purchased by September 18.

Empty Nesters ∗ The next Empty

Nesters planning committee meeting will be held on Monday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m. at FLC North. The “Empty Nesters” is for those at Faith who are enjoying a bit of freedom after the kids are out of the nest or too busy to hang out with them, retirement is a reality, and are ready to make new friends and help those who are in need. The major focus is having fun, helping others and sharing life-learned interests and abilities with others. Everyone is welcome to attend the planning meeting to help plan the upcoming events. Empty Nesters is for singles and couples!

∗ New this year…. The “fifty-

sixers” (5th and 6th graders). This year we kick-off a new and exciting program for 5th and 6th graders. It will be held on Wednesday evenings from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at FLC North (until the South Fellowship Hall is available) beginning September 16, 2009. Supervised “hang-out” time will be held from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. at FLC North (until the South Fellowship Hall is available). Looking for volunteers to help with this. We have received approval from the school for the youth to ride bus 20 to FLC North (both from

the Middle School and Park Elementary.) What in the world are we doing? Snacks, games, singing, study, friends, talking about how much 5th and 6th graders rule and how we can change the world. We will plan the fall together...fun servant trip to the cities with our families, after school adventures at mystery locations, learning leadership by leading at church and sharing the gospel in what we do and how we live. Led by Rachel Kurtz May. Come join us! Bring your friends (even if Faith Lutheran isn't their home church)!!

∗ Release Time is for all 2nd – 5th graders. This is an amazing opportunity where students are excused from their classes on Wednesday mornings and bussed to Faith on Grove for an hour. During that time we will be learning a lesson through games, snacks, crafts, and other activities. You must turn in a registration slip to your child(ren)’s school in order to register. In the past there has been concern that your child may be missing a lesson in school. Teachers are not allowed to teach something new during this time. If this is happening, please notify Kacie Lange immediately.

∗ Please check the insert for a NEW opportunity for 2nd – 5th graders!!!
