I shared with our Church Council at our June 26 meeting the passage of Scripture
where Jesus told his disciples that “new wine must be put into new wineskins”. (Luke 5:38)
When he said that, he had just finished doing a whole bunch of new things: calling his dis-
ciples, healing a leper, making a lame man walk, and calling a tax collector named Levi to
be one of his disciples. Jesus is the new wine poured out for the life of the world. And he
calls one us to be like him, always doing new things to show the world his truth, his life,
and his way.
As we make reaching out to our community the focus of our life at Trinity Church, it is clear that we must
be seeking new ways of doing this. We have just begun a series of Sunday 4:30-6:30PM Picnics under the tree
in front of the church to let the community know that
we are alive and want to get to know all who are
around. Our June 23 picnic was a great success!
Wonderful setting with new picnic tables! Great food
thanks to our Trinity cooks! And a lively program
outside directed by Donna Metcalf and inside featur-
ing the “New Life Puppets”. It was a very enjoyable
time together many thanks to all who came and
brought friends and family to join us.
Let’s keep this new thing going. Our next
picnics are on July 7, where we have invited the
congregation of the Mt. Gilboa AME Church to join
us, and on July 21 when we will have our “Family
Fun Bible School” after we eat together under the
tree. And there are two more picnics on August 4
and 18. Plan to be with us each time for the food, the fellowship, and the evangelism as we show the community
what it looks like when a group of people come together around the love of Jesus.
If it is that Jesus is the new wine, that makes us the wine skins ready to hold the wine of his spirit and to
pour it out and share it him others. This Summer it is through our picnics. In the Fall, we will develop other “New
Things”. Jesus healed, cleansed, and called disciples. He met them on the seashore, on the street, and in peo-
ple’s homes. The band of his disciples kept growing. We will keep reaching out in the ever new ways he shows
us so that our band of disciples here at Trinity can keep growing as well

OUR CHURCH COUNCIL MAKES THREE IMPORATANT DECISIONS
At its June 26th meeting, our Church Council made three decisions that will have a significant im-pact on the life of the Trinity congregation. Each ef-fects a different part of our church life. It is important that we are aware of them all and watch for their ef-fect on our church. First, after advertising our need for a Choir Di-rector, our Staff Parish Relations Committee received a resume from a person interested in the position and interviewed her. Her name is Isabella Umberger (although she prefers to be called “Bella”) The inter-view was quite positive and the full SPRC recom-mended hiring her. The council received this recom-mendation and confirmed the decision to offer Bella the position. At a meeting on Tuesday, June 2, Ms. Umberger accept our offer and signed the “Memorandum of Understanding” which marks the terms of her employment at Trinity Church. Bella is a Senior at UMBC, as was our last Choir director, Matthew Cherian. She is a trained so-loist and sings in the camerata that performed at Trini-ty last Holy Week. She even filled in for Mathew on Sunday when he was not able to be with us and did quite well. She has begun taking instruction in direct-ing and has some limited experience in leading a choir. Being a friend of Mathew’s will help the transi-tion to her as our Choir Director a smooth one. Bella and Ann Mellinger have also begun forming a solid working relationship. We very much look forward to have Bella as our Choir Director. She will begin work-ing here on August 28, and we will see her leading the Choir in September. We keep her in prayer as she
prepares to move into this position and further develop the music ministry of Trinity Church. (A note: When we see our Choir again in the Fall, they will be wearing new robes, blue with white collars. A new Director, new Robes: Our choir!) The second decision was to enter into an agree-ment with the Amen Church, a Korean congregation, to use our Chapel for their 11:30AM Sunday Worship Ser-vices, beginning in August. We have met this congrega-tion through their Pastor, Rev. Jeon of the Korean Meth-odist Church. He and his wife, Sunhee, have been worshipping with us for the past few months, and he spoke as a part of our Worship Service on June 9, Pentecost Sunday. The Council recognized that Worshipping at our Chapel will give the Amen Church a wonderful opportunity to grow as they reach our to the Ko-rean population in our area and Howard County. It is also a great opportunity for us at Trinity to work with another congregation and demonstrate to the community that all is alive a well at Trinity Church.
We are working now with Stan Wantland, Council Chair, to draw up an agreement, as recommended by our District Office, to make clear the terms of the use of the Chapel on Sundays at 11:30AM and Satur-days 7:00-8:00AM for Prayer, including ac-cess to the building, a reasonable fee to cover expenses, and other matters. When this is arranged and signed, we will sched-ule a Sunday for the Amen Church to begin
worshipping here at Trinity and a suitable ceremony will be arranged. We thank God for this opportunity to work together and pray God’s blessing upon us as we enter into this relationship. The third decision has to do with the use of our Parson-age. For the past two years, Pastor Kelly Grimes has been living in our house on Upman Ct., even as she has been the pastor at Mt. Zion UMC. However, Pastor Kelly has been given a new appointment at Foundary UMC in Washington, D.C. and will be living in a community much closer to that location. Therefore, as of the early part of August, our parsonage will be empty and we lose the income we have been getting from it. We have sought another pastor to live in it, but have not found anyone interested at this time. Rather than leaving the parsonage empty or selling it and having no place for a future pastor to live, the Council decided that we will put the parsonage on the market to rent. It was further decid-ed that we would do this through a management company rather than our Trustees being the landlord and be subject to ongoing issues of its use. There are various matters to be taken care of be-fore we can rent, such as selecting a management com-pany, making any necessary repairs or improvements,
Page 3
and setting a rental price. A team of people has been designated to work on these items and move the parsonage toward rental by the Fall and restor-ing that income source. As progress is made, re-ports will be made to the congregation so that every-one will know how this matter is proceeding. We thank the team that has taken on this task and pray the Lord’s blessing upon their work and upon this new use of our parsonage.

If you have any of these items to donate, please let Pastor David know. Also: We are invited to the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Sunday, July 21 at 3:00PM. It will not be a long ceremony, giving us time to get back for our Family Fun Bible School Picnic.
