with Trunk-or-Treating

Wednesday, October 19 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the Faith Family Harvest Celebration with Trunk-or-

Treating on Wednesday, October 19, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Our event theme this year is

called “Time to SHINE for Jesus.” You

are the light of the world…let your light

SHINE!

This is a special Harvest event for everyone in the community with pony rides, petting zoo, inflatable’s, games, face painting, crafts, food, fun and fellowship. Refresh-ments will be available such as hot dogs, chips, lemonade and more.

Join the youth, children and “fun” adults “Trunk-or-Treating.” This is a safe alter-

native to "trick or treating" and gives eve-

ryone an opportunity to wear their cos-

tumes. Adults and teens can have a blast planning and decorating their vehicle. Decorate your car with an approved theme. (Registration forms are available through the Church Office or on www.faithrus.org.)

We are collecting donations of candy or treats throughout the month.

Cars will be lined up with trunks full of goodies and games. Note: We ask that all participants—trunks and costumes—not use scary items. It will be a time full of laughter and memories.

We also ask each family or participant to bring a non-perishable food item to support our Food Pantry. This is a great time to outreach and invite your friends and

neighbors—so spread the word!

Another exciting Flea Market is coming and we need you—able-bodied men and women to set up tables and signs and to start unloading the crate and the garage on Friday, October 7, and Satur-day, October 8. See

complete schedule on

this month’s calendar.

No, I'm not talking about some-thing you would see at the beach in questionable attire, the kind advertisers use to catch your attention and sell their products or services. I am thinking about the type of body the Apostle Paul mentions in First Corinthians, chapter 12. He is talking about the Body of Christ, which is the Church. This is not one denomination or structure. It is the Church Uni-versal which is made up of all believers who have invited Christ into their hearts and lives.

This Body sounds so large and immeasurable it is hard to comprehend. This is why the Apostle Paul identifies and writes personal letters to seg-ments of this Body in different locations giving instructions and encouragement to smaller groups of the overall Body.

Here at Faith Church we are one of the segments of this Universal Church. We are called on to uphold and to build up the fellowship in this com-munity. He goes on to compare the local body of a Church to a human body.

Those of us who are adding numbers to our years, know for certain that our bodies have several parts designed to func-tion in certain ways. As long as the parts function as they were designed to work, we can enjoy

health and productive activities.

Faith Church in Seminole is also a Body of Christ in this community. It too has many parts and functions in serving Christ and in the building up of one an-other in our faith. I am thrilled often as I learn about the many efforts to encourage one another in this service to the Savior. I am especially thrilled when I read about all of the different pro-grams sponsored by our segment of the Body of Christ. To me the important thing is not the number of different programs of service provided by Faith Church, but the enthusiasm and joy in serving our Lord together. This is what a true Church is intended to be and to do. Because of the richness of this fellowship here at Faith, I am al-ways looking forward to inviting new people to the joy of being a part of this family. Join me in reaching out to others to invite them to be a part of us. May God bless you in every effort as we join together in reaching out with a cordial invitation to join this Body.

(Also, Harriet and I are glad to be back with you and covet your prayers for my complete healing from surgery on my spinal steno-sis.)

Pastor Paul

Friday, October 21 Faith Center

Come join us on Friday, October 21 at 6:30 p.m. for God’s Club in Faith Center.

Following his wife’s pass-ing, public high-school teacher Michael Evens (Stephen Baldwin) re-launches the Bible Club she originally founded. When upset parents cite the sepa-ration of church and state and want the school club disbanded, a passionate dis-pute erupts and threatens to destroy their small Ver-mont community. With his job, personal relationships and even his faith on the line, Michael must make tough decisions about the things that matter most.

Lorenzo Lamas and Corbin

Bernsen also star in this uplifting tale of strength, unity and love.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t always feel like worship-ing. Do you ever have one of those days when nothing seems to work out? You stand when you are supposed to sit. You speak when you are supposed to be quiet. You sing during a rest or worse, you open to the wrong song. When that happens we look up at God with our hands out as if to say, “I thought you were going to protect me from days like this.” These annoy-ances seem so small when I con-sider the difficult situations that some are going through. Many in our church have lost loved ones recently, gone through sickness, sadness and loss of purpose for living.

In difficult times it is easy to question and even blame God. I’m sure we have all experienced some level of questioning. I re-cently looked again at the book that we read together a few years ago, The Purpose Driven Life, and I found a chapter titled, “When God Seems Distant.” In Chapter 14 he begins with the verse, “The Lord has hidden Himself from His people, but I trust Him and place my hope in Him.” Rick Warren begins the chapter with “God is real, no matter how you feel.” That idea always reminds me of the sign

on my dad’s office desk, “When God seems far away, think, who has moved.”

It is difficult to praise God when we feel this way. Our feelings do interrupt our praise at times. It’s not realistic to think that we will never be sad, lonely or in pain. But we must realize that God does not change. He wants and deserves our praise through all of our experiences, good and bad, happy or sad. I like what Rick says toward the end of the chapter, “The most common mistake Christians make in wor-ship today is seeking an experi-ence rather than seeking God. They look for a feeling, and if it happens, they conclude that they have worshiped…Seeking a feeling, even the feeling of closeness to Christ, is not wor-ship.”

Worship is acknowledging the worth and the greatness of God.

The chapter ends with excellent strategies for worship:

1. Tell God how you feel 2. Focus on who God is 3. Trust God to keep his prom-

ises 4. Remember what God has al-

ready done for you

“God is real, no matter how you feel.”

“For God has said, ‘I will never

leave you, nor forsake you.’” —Hebrews 13:5

Pioneer Clubs Pioneer Clubs began its 77th year of training up children around the world to follow Christ in every aspect of life this Fall. We began our 15th year of Pioneer Clubs on August 17, and have welcomed over 60 children so far this year. We are amazed at all that God has ac-complished through us in the past and are excited about what He has in store for us in the weeks ahead.

Exciting new experiences await children who attend Pioneer Club. Children, age 2 through grades 5, have an opportunity to participate in Pioneer Clubs dur-ing our mid-week ministry Faith Connection. The purpose of Pioneer Clubs is to help children put Christ in every aspect of life by recognizing him as Savior and Lord and developing a life-style based on biblical values. The biblical lessons for kids help them learn about God, the Bible and themselves, as they explore fun activities and make new friends.

Did you miss registering at the beginning of the new school year? NO PROBLEM! Each unit is four weeks long so you

are welcome to join us at any time throughout the 2016/17 school year. It is never too late. You can obtain an application in the Church or Pre-school office or online at our web-site. Scholarships are always avail-able by request.

Pioneer Clubs’ theme and verse for the year is…Made for this…I

raised you up that My Name may be

declared in all the earth!” —Romans 9:17

Sunday Morning

Children age two through second

grade begin Sunday School at 9:20 a.m. in their classroom. Children in third through fifth grade attend with their family during Praising God in Song time in worship and then are dismissed to their Sunday School class.

We continue to use DiscipleLand during our Sunday School time. This comprehensive system helps kids become Christ’s disciples for life. It is a complete plan that en-sures children achieve balanced growth in Bible knowledge, Christ-like character and faithful con-duct—everything kids need to live as devoted followers of Jesus. (Dis-cipleLand.com)

Children, in Kindergarten through

5th grade, attend Children’s Church

during the 11:00 a.m. service.

God’s Special Friends

God’s Special Friends meets faith-fully every Wednesday night from 6:15-7:30 p.m. It is a self contained class for individuals with special needs. This is a great opportunity for special needs individuals to learn about God and fellowship to-gether with their caregivers. Tell your family, friends and neighbors. Linda Duart and her team have ex-citing events planned.

We are excited to see what God has planned for the 2016/17 school year. We will start our 6th year of club at Orange Grove Elementary on Wednesday, October 5. Our GNC team has made a decision to offer club at Orange Grove until the end of January and then in February offer club at Ma-

deira Beach Elementary so we are able to reach more children for the kingdom.

It takes about 8-10 volunteers per week to provide all aspects of club which includes relationship building, music, Bible memo-rization, Bible lesson, mission and review games.

We are looking for volunteers on and off the school campus: Grade shepherds – People who build wonderful relation-

ships directly with the children at club each week

Prayer partners - folks who are willing to pray for the club, volunteers and the children’s requests we receive each week

Supporters - We are in need of donations o The cost to rent the classroom is $38 per week o The cost per Bible is $6 o Gummies o Special Goodies & Incentives

Good News Clubs (GNC) through Child Evangelism Fellow-

ship (CEF) is making a difference in the lives of children. If you have any interest in getting involved with this wonderful outreach ministry or would like additional information, please contact me or one of the team members: Karen & Terry Bur-

mood, Geanie Franklin, Pat Lamb, Brian Lewry, Carla Schultz and Denise Wisse.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,

for those who are called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28

October is a very busy month here at Faith Community Preschool. All of our fall programs have started. Our extended hours started with a great group of three and four-year-old children enjoying lunch and play-ground time together. Chapel and Music are also in full swing with Kim

Gunthner directing the program.

October Calendar: October 19, 20 & 21 – Grandparents Days

October 19– Harvest Celebration with Trunk or Treat

Our preschool has a great enrollment for all ages—2 year olds through 4 year olds. We currently have open-ings in our 3 year old class and VPK 4’s classes. Do you know anyone who would benefit from our pro-gram? We also offer a Mother’s

Morning Out program for children ages 20 months – 3 years old. It is offered Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – noon. It is a fun time of socialization for your young child. Call the preschool (392.5113) if you are interested in more informa-tion about any of our class openings.

We feel that we are truly blessed at Faith Community Preschool with a professional and caring staff, delight-ful children and loving parents.

Thank you for your donations and prayers. Our needs are being met be-cause of a supportive church family.

House of Love continues to grow in leaps and bounds! We now have 31 sweet girls but that means more clothes, more food, more uni-forms and school fees. Not even elementary school is free in Kenya.

But these precious girls are thriving! One of our Board members was out there not long ago and she gave a wonderful report, plus brought us some great new pictures. The twin girls in this picture are Agnes and Evelyn. The little one in the middle is Charity.

The twins lost their father first and then their mother. They were both bewildered and didn't know how they would live. Agnes, in a moment of despair, threw herself in a ravine near her village. But by God's grace, someone saw her, and the men in the village rescued her.

Peter, our Director for H.O.L., heard about this and went and got both girls. They are so happy to be in a "family" again. Peter told us that they are the most humble girls he has ever seen. He also said that they go out of their way to help the younger children. That is so neat!

We have many girls at House of Love who still need sponsors. If God lays it on your heart to be such a sponsor, just let me know. It costs $35/month and God will honor you greatly for doing this. He prom-ises a blessing to those who love and care for the poor.

God bless you all and many thanks for your prayers!

Love,

Our thoughts and prayers are with the following who have lost loved ones recently:

Fran Hennings and family—

Robert Krohn died July 4, 2016.

The family and friends of Betty Adams who died in Massachusetts on September 11, 2016.

We believe that Jesus died and rose again; and so it will be for those who died in Christ. God will raise them to be with the Lord forever.
