Chair Yoga

Prana Flow

Chair Yoga is instructed by Shannon Basham and is designed to provide almost anyone the opportunity to be involved in a gentle form of Yoga. It focuses on the joints and muscles to increase flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination.

Prana Flow (TM) is a refinement of vinyasa flow developed by Shiva Rae which warms and opens the student through a series of waves culminating in a peak pose and then gently coming back to earth and stillness. This style is adaptable through the use of krama so each participant can go to their own edge.

Class includes flow sequences, core work, standing poses, balance poses, and attempts at pretzeling. Playful attitude encouraged. Bring your mat!

Meet The Artist Series Marcus Dowty From Photograph to Art Date: Sept. 30th Time: 5:00-7:00 pm Location: East Building

Spend an evening at the historic Shawnee Indian Mission with three of the local artists who are making Kansas City such a vibrant arts community. While enjoying a glass of wine or a beer and light hors d’oeuvres, visit with the artists, hear their stories and view their works. A fun and informative beginning to a date night or friends’ night out.

Katrina Revenaugh From Grafitti to High Art Date: Oct. 28th Time: 5:00-7:00 pm Location: East Building

Nancy Oglesby Finding Your Inner Artist Through Alcohol Painting Date: Nov. 11th Time: 5:00-7:00 pm Location: East Building

World travels have taken Marcus to six of the seven continents and ninety four countries. Using the camera lens to filter the exposure of an event, Marcus focuses on the more important story. His portfolio truly reflects images of a path less taken.

With her work, Katrina hopes the viewer appreciates graffiti and street art in a whole new way. She photographs it, extracts little bits and pieces from the shots and uses them like found objects to create layered abstract collages and patterns on wood, metal or fabric with a very painterly quality. The essence of the graffiti is still there, but it’s a totally reimagined piece.

Growing up in a home surrounded by art, Nancy discovered at an early age that she had inherited her father’s eye for all things beautiful. Her delight has been in experimenting with many diverse forms of artistic expression. Nancy’s joy now is in alcohol painting on tiles, where she can coax this very fluid medium into works full of movement and life.
