Attitude

How can one develop a proper attitude toward God? First, our attitude toward God must be based on our conviction that “He is,” and that “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). This kind of faith will produce a good attitude of godly fear, and “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7). Second, God is absolutely holy, absolutely perfect, and absolutely wise. He is grieved by evil. He loves man and wants us to love and obey Him. All of this should motivate us to want to be true to Him all the days of our life. Our attitude toward God will then be such as expressed by the heavenly hosts: “Worthy are thou, our Lord and our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power: for thou didst create all things, and because of thy will they were, and were created,” (Revelation 4:11).

A parent’s worst nightmare may very well be a lost child. The AMBER ALERT was established as a system whereby law enforcement and the public could coordinate efforts to recover a lost or kidnapped child.

In 1996, nine year old Amber Hagerman was kidnapped while riding her bicycle near her home in Arlington, TX. She was found four days later. She had been murdered. There was such a strong reaction by the public and law enforcement that the Amber Alert system was established to help find an abducted or lost child quickly, before tragedy occurs.

The tragedy of Amber Hagerman certainly elicited the strong reaction of parents all across this nation, and rightfully so. A young girl’s life was stolen by an evil person.

Whenever a young person’s life is taken, it is indeed a great tragedy. But friend’s, it is also a great tragedy when a young person’s soul is kidnapped. Satan, like the devious lion he is, is lurking about looking to take captive some innocent soul. He especially enjoys enticing the children of Christian parents into his lair.

The educational program “No Child Left Behind” was designed to help give all children an education that would help them prepare for a productive life. Well, the highest and best life a child can look forward to is one of faithful service to Christ.

Faith comes by hearing God’s word (Romans 10:17). It is the milk of the word that provides the nourishment needed for growth (1 Peter 2:2). And the Bible calls upon all to “...grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Peter 3:18).

Twenty one years after Amber’s death, her killer has not been found.
