Dear Parents/ Carers,
PRINCIPAL SCHOLARSHIP
I have some exciting news to share with you all. I was successful in gaining a principal scholarship with the
Department of Education which I applied for last term. This means from Week 5, I will be travelling to
London for 2 weeks studying at London University as well as visiting different schools. This is a wonderful
opportunity to learn more about school improvement and I look forward to sharing my journey with you
all when I return. During this time, Mrs Karam will relieve as Principal, Mrs Dean as Deputy Principal, Ms
Batar as Instructional Leader and Mrs Sloggett as Assistant Principal. Mr Nguyen will teach 3B during this
time.
ROCKETING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT
K MAUBOY: On Tuesday I visited KM during their gymnastic session. This was a great opportunity for me to
see the lesson in action. It was evident that the children were very excited as we made our way to the hall.
The 3 gymnastic teachers were very helpful and explained the activities to the children. Some of the activities
include the mini-trampoline, balancing and walking like a crab. The lesson was great and I know KM is looking
forward to next Tuesday, which is the last week for the program.
4 SYKES: Last week I visited 4S during a very interesting lesson. Firstly, children needed to use their predicting and
visualising skills to interpret a piece of music titled ‘The Carnival of Animals’. After this Mrs Sloggett asked the children to
think about some of the instruments they could hear and to start thinking about what the music could represent by
drawing/ painting their ideas. The children in 4S were very creative in their design, but more importantly could
communicate and justify their thoughts. Check out some photos in this edition of the newsletter.
FAIRVALE ART EXHIBITION
I hope you have had the opportunity to visit our inaugural Fairvale Art Exhibition this week. The hall has
been filled with an amazing display of artworks from all students K-6. Congratulations to all students and a
very special thank you to the Creative Arts Project Team, led by Mrs Sloggett.
2020 ORGANISATION
We are currently organising class structures for 2020 and last week a note went home regarding families
plans for 2020. If you are returning to Fairvale PS in 2020 you do not need to do anything, however, if
you are planning on leaving the school OR returning a little late then we need you to complete this note.
If you would like to speak to someone about this, please contact the office.
Have a great fortnight, I’ll see you all in Week 7!

Take a break with Mrs Karam!
Each fortnight I visit a ‘break activity’ group.
This week I visited the K-2 social skills group. The group is
led by Mrs Dove and Miss Shamon. It was great to hear that
there are lots of students who attend the group regularly.
When I visited we played a game of ‘What’s on my head’
and the students were challenged to ask specific questions
to guess the object that was on their friends head. It was
lots of fun! Students were also playing ‘Jenga’ on the floor
and I loved seeing the students collaborate to problem solve
how to keep the tower upright.
Makerspace was held in our newly refurbished library. It
was great to visit and see the exciting challenges that the
students are working on. This week they were tackling a
mechanical robot. The students were working together to
join the pieces and connect the battery. Mrs Orwin was
guiding the students throughout the process. I can’t wait to
see the finished product and how it all comes together.
Students in Year 1 and 2 have been participating in the
Cool@School program led by Miss Wulf. The program is designed
to promote healthy eating and active lifestyles among students.
Each week the students have been participating in key lessons
including learning how to cook and create delicious meals. Last
week the students graduated from the Cool@School program and
were fortunate to receive a delicious morning tea and bag of
goodies for their successful participation in the program. Mr Guy
Zangari and representatives from Cabra-Vale Diggers also
attended the special assembly.

As parents, homework can be a little overwhelming,
especially seeing how techniques have changed since
going to school yourself. OSHClub hosts HOMEWORK
CLUB, where your children can get support and help
with the difficult questions, see some of their friends
outside of school and also get to fill their bellies with
some Healthy Afternoon Tea. If you have any
questions, please come by the Hall and talk to the
friendly OSHClub staff.

HALLOWEEN IS HERE!!!
We had such a great afternoon Trick or Treating
around the hall! With lots of amazing costumes,
we were able to find SO MANY LOLLIES to show

We had Spiderman, Emma Wiggle, Skeletons,

We just LOVE cooking and making our very own
creations that we get to eat afterwards! With the
countdown to Halloween, we made some Witches
Hats out of Hershey’s Kisses and Oreos and
decorated our very own cupcakes! YUM YUM!!
