FARWELL, WALTER Managing director of the famous three million acre XIT Ranch in the Texas Panhandle. It was, in its time, the largest fenced ranch in the world and extended into ten counties. The Farwell family was noted for their Chicago, IL business and political activities. The XIT ran an estimated 150,000 head of cattle. Walter, an ardent polo player, introduced the game to the ranch and bred many fine polo ponies. In the early 1900’s the ranch was split up. One party bought a quarter million acres. The last cattle were sold off the XIT in 1912. FAVILL, DR. HENRY BAIRD Born in Madison, WI in 1860, he was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Rush Medical College of Chicago.
