Resolution
Whereas Professor Balakrishnan has served the Missouri University of Science and Technology Faculty Senate since 2011 as President-Elect, and President; Whereas, as an Officer of the Faculty Senate, Professor Balakrishnan has demonstrated consistent good humor, hard work, considered judgment, thoughtfulness and dedication to shared governance in these positions; Whereas, Professor Balakrishnan's leadership skills have helped the Faculty Senate and the campus succeed through strategic planning; Whereas, Professor Balakrishnan has maintained a friendly, collegial and consistently positive attitude at all times; Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate of the Missouri University of Science and Technology does hereby sincerely thank Professor Balakrishnan for every job well done and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.Adopted this 19th day of September, 2013, at the meeting of the Missouri University of Science and Technology Faculty Senate.

LEAD• For the first time ever Chem 2 (759 students) will offer a learning
center. It will meet in TJ Hall.• LEAD tutoring and learning centers were initiated by the second
week of the semester.• We launched our first-ever “On Line Learning Center” in Chem 1.• We are arranging a “LEAD Showcase” on Nov 12-13 for fellow UM

community – Organizing committee meeting regularly to

Computer Security Training: IT (Karl Lutzen) suggested training at regular intervals, e.g., at faculty meetings,Detailed proposal will follow.
Faculty accomplishment system (FAS):CIO Greg Smith gave report on IT side of selection of new FAS software. Question: Is such a system valuable for you as faculty members? Consensus: No.
Learning management systems – Blackboard Replacement?Jeff Schramm + Angie Hammons reported on activities of committee, currently analyzing requirements and needs. Blackboard is expensive ($100k license + hosting and support costs),several competing products exist.

• Backups and storage:Discussion about data backups and cloud storage. Currently only short terms backups for y-drive (3 weeks or so).Dan Uetrecht will review current status + options and pricing at next meeting
• IT updates: (Dan Uetrecht + Greg Smith)Wireless: phase 1 finished (old Cisco AP replaced by Dell Aruba)
phase 2 starting in Oct. (add extra AP to improve coverage)Email: Pop protocol will be phased out (probably over Christmas)3D printing: IT is putting 3D printer in library
