About the Department
Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2003 with a vision to create
globally competent mechanical engineers capable of working in an interdisciplinary
environment, contributing to society through innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership.
With modern infrastructure and well equipped laboratories and workshop, the
department of mechanical engineering strives to train the young mechanical engineering
minds to pursue career in manufacturing, research & development industries along with
service sector and academics. With well qualified and experienced faculty dedicated to
excellence in teaching and research we encourage our students to work out on their
creative energy and convert their ideas into product.
Department has established a Center of Excellence along with SMC Pneumatics India so as
to encourage industry-academia relationship.
The department aims to produce Engineers with dynamic personality adaptable to ever
increasing demands of emerging technologies involving analytical and practical skills, with
commitment to research and development.
Objectives & Scope
NBA (National Board of Accreditation) has introduced a new process, parameters and
criteria for accreditation which increasingly make it mandatory for all engineering programs
to implement Outcome Based Education (OBE). These are aligned with the best
international practices and oriented to assess the outcomes of the programme. Our
present teaching learning processes are geared towards old Input-based model rather than
new Outcomes-based model. As a consequence, our reports on outcomes attainment for
accreditation lend to follow OBE more in letters than in spirit. There is an urgent need of
changing our instructional methods for effective delivery of OBE. To adopt this change to
take place, various stakeholders also have to be consulted for expected Outcomes. The
change agents in the academic system are the faculty members and they are expected to
have the clear understanding of mapping the existing curriculum to the expected graduate
programme outcomes through the courses they teach by adopting outcomes based
approach. Main objective of this FDP is to educate the young as well as senior faculty
members on how to reorient their teaching learning processes to implement Outcome
Based Education (OBE) in both letter and spirit. Articulation of course outcomes for a
particular course, various direct and indirect assessment techniques and their evaluation
will be covered in detail in this FDP. Best practices followed for teaching learning will also be
discussed in this FDP.
Philosophy of Outcome Based Education (OBE)
OBE primarily focuses on building each part of an educational system around Outcomes.
Hence it emphasize on three major components viz.
(I) Stating what you want your students to be able to do at the end of the program
(II) Assessing the students whether they are able to do what they are expected to do
(III) Orienting teaching and other academic processes to facilitate students to do what they
are expected to do.
Outcomes from FDP
At the end of the FDP, participants will be able to
v Demonstrate the basic philosophy of Outcome Based Education, Assessment
v Accreditation and understand the current challenges
v Understand the taxonomy of Teaching, Learning and Assessing the outcomes
v Formulate and distinguish PEOs, POs, PSOs, GAs and COs
v Identify, design and deploy appropriate assessment tools for PEOs, POs, PSOs and
COs
v Formulate the rubrics for assessing various activities
v Identify the scope for continuous improvement and to propose corrective measures
v - Independently assess all the criteria in NBA's SAR
