About the Artists

CECILIA PALMA, cello was born in Venezuela and began her musical studies in El Sistema. She continued her academic studies in the Iudem from Venezuela and later in the Conservatory Liceu de Barcelona from Spain. Cecilia has played as a soloist accompanied by orchestras such as: Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar and Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara in Venezuela, University Philharmonia of Michigan University in USA, Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá in Colombia. From 1998 to 2003, she belonged to the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar from Venezuela. From 2004 to 2006, she made part of the Academy Orchestra of the Gran Teatro del Liceu de Barcelona. In 2007, she was awarded the award contest Arjau in mode Chamber music contemporary. Cecilia did a master’s degree in Arts education at the National University of Colombia. Currently, she is an associate professor of the National University of Colombia, cellist of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, and makes part of the recognized Dúo Villa-Lobos as a NAXOS label artist.

EDWIN GUEVARA, guitarist, composer, arranger and conductor. He started his studies when he was three years old under the guidance of his father Roberto Guevara and later in the Conservatory National from Colombia under the direction of Ramiro Isaza, Blas Emilio Atheortua and Gustavo Yepes. He obtained 67 National and international awards such as Leo Brouwer, Celedonio Romero, Miguel Llobet, Arjau of contemporary music, Youth musical of Spain, among others. Edwin has taken master classes with Abel Carlevaro, Eduardo Fernandez, Alvaro Pierri, Pepe Romero, Tomas Patterson, David Russell, Leo Brouwer, among others. Edwin Guevara has performed as a soloist accompanied by different orchestras in different countries from Europe, Asia and America. He graduated from the Conservatory of Music Liceo de Barcelona (Spain) under the guidance of Mr. Guillem Pérez-Quer and later received a master’s degree in symphonic conducting at the National University of Colombia. He is an artist of Savino music, Knobloch Strings, Bergmann Editions and Naxos. In 2005 he was considered one of the best Ibero-American guitarists by the Cervantes Institute of Spain. Mr. Guevara is currently a professor of the Sergio Arboleda University and the National Pedagogic University in Bogotá.

DÚO VILLA-LOBOS is a stable and consolidated chamber music since 2003. They started work at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Liceu de Barcelona (Spain) under the guidance of Mr. Guillem Pérez-Quer. They have performed concerts in different festivals, auditoriums and theaters in Europe, the United States and South America. The duo has specialized on the original music of repertoire for cello and guitar and has created their own works and arrangements from different styles. Since its creation, the Dúo Villa-Lobos has been encouraging composers to write original works for

this unconventional chamber format and several of those works have been dedicated to them by composers such as Leo Brouwer (Cuba), Jorge Miguel González, Carles Guinovart, Francesc Taverna Bech, Gloria Villanueva, Josep Galeote (Spain), Jaime Zenamon (Bolivia), Arnaldo Freyre (Brazil), Jan Freidlin (Russia), Gerard Drozd (Poland), Gregg Nestor (United States), José Antonio Guerrero (USA - Mexico), Giorgio Tortora (Italy) and Pedro Sarmiento (Colombia). The group received the maximum contemporary music prize at the Arjau European interpretation Festival of Barcelona; also, they received the Octavio Marulanda Morales award granted by the Ruitoqueño Festival of Colombian Music. In 2017, the Dúo was invited by the Michigan University to perform the opening concert at the festival En Español: Sounds of the Hispanosphere in the Walgreen Drama Center´s Stamps Auditorium as well as the central concert of the same festival where they made the world premiere of the Great Symphonic Concert Op. 198 La Madre Monte for Cello, Guitar and Symphonic Orchestra, which was written by the composer Jaime Zenamon and dedicated to the Dúo Villa-Lobos; for that occasion, the piece was accompanied by the University Philharmonia Orchestra of Michigan University and conducted by Oriol Sans Arrufat at the Hill Auditorium of Ann Arbor in February 2017. The Dúo Villa-Lobos released their first recording production Music for cello and guitar under the classical music label NAXOS, with original repertoire of Eastern Europe and South America, with works by the composers Dusan Bogdanovic (Serbia), Jaime Zénamon (Bolivia), Sergio Assad (Brazil), Atanas Ourkouzounov (Bulgaria) and Edwin Guevara-Gutiérrez (Colombia). The recording was made at the Luis Angel Arango Concert Hall of the Republic Bank from Colombia in January 2016. It is the first recording production made in Colombia for NAXOS (the world´s leading record label in classical music); this recording was set on the bestseller list of the record company at the first month of release. Since June 2017 the Dúo Villa-Lobos has become a reference chamber group around the world by opening on a label with the importance of Naxos, the Cello and Guitar chamber music line; moreover, they are the first group in the history of music of Colombia to be Naxos artists. In May 2018, they made their debut within the programming of the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo with a concert called Three Epochs, two instruments where they covered works ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to the world premiere of Sonata Jacarandina for Cello and Guitar by Edwin Guevara-Gutiérrez. In June 2018, they performed as soloists accompanied by the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra under the conduction of Robin O’Neil (England). The Duo Villa-Lobos has had an excellent
