emory’s main campus in the suburban atlanta neighborhood of druid Hills is home to the undergraduate emory college of arts and sciences, as well as undergraduate programs in busi-ness and nursing. also housed on this walkable campus are graduate and professional programs in law, business, nursing, theology, medicine, public health, and graduate studies, as well as emory university Hospital and associated medical clinics and institutes. the druid Hills campus features historic buildings clad in pink and gray georgia marble, as well as contemporary Leed-certified residence and academic halls.

twenty percent of emory undergraduates choose to begin their education at oxford college, emory’s historic 1836 campus, 38 miles east of atlanta. oxford offers students a small-campus, liberal-arts-intensive education for the first two years of the emory undergraduate degree.

today emory has its base in atlanta, the business hub of the southeast and an exciting global city. the city connects emory to opportunities for wider networking, jobs, research, service, and learning. and when it is time for play, the metro area is rich with a mix of diverse cultures, entertainments, and the arts.

Helen Mayberg—professor of psychiatry, neurology, and radi-ology and the dorothy c. Fuqua chair in Psychiatric imaging and therapeutics at emory’s school of medicine—is named an american association for the advancement of science Fellow.

emory university President James W. Wagner and Raymond F. Schinazi, Frances Winship Walters Professor of Pediatrics at emory and director of the Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology, are named charter Fellows of the national academy of inventors.

Student Achievementsemory students are well represented as recipients of academic honors such as the Fulbright Fellowship, goldwater scholarship, Luce scholar, marshall scholarship, national science Foundation Fellowship, ncaa Postgraduate scholarship, and rhodes scholarship.

Perrinh Savang of emory college of arts and sciences wins the 2013 Humanity in action Fellowship, while Nick Thompson, also of emory college, is named a 2013 Luce scholar.

Justin Beegle, Miller Douglas, Alex Greven, Mia Michalak, Peter O’Brien, and Ann Wolber of emory college won ncaa Postgraduate scholarships. overall, 82 emory student-athletes have been awarded ncaa Postgraduate scholarships, the sec-ond-highest cumulative university total.

Emory College of Arts and Sciences (1836)emory college distinctively combines the student-centered edu-cation and personal engagement of the best liberal arts colleges with the unparalleled resources of a major research university. With a student/faculty ratio of 9 to 1, the college offers 80 majors, 60 minors, and a variety of joint undergraduate-graduate programs with other emory schools. students enjoy a vibrant campus life, joining more than 200 arts, civic, athletic, religious, and preprofessional organizations on campus and participating in a variety of service and leadership opportunities. the college received a record 17,705 applicants for the 2013 first-year class, which numbered 1,376 students from 46 states and 32 countries.

Oxford College (1836)oxford college—a division of emory that provides a liberal arts–intensive program for the first two years of a baccalaureate degree—has around 950 students and is located 38 miles east of atlanta on the site of emory’s original campus in oxford, georgia. students choose to attend oxford because of its emphasis on teaching, personal interaction with professors, community set-ting, student diversity, leadership opportunities, and connection to emory university. each year between 90 to 95 percent of oxford graduates choose to continue on to the atlanta campus to com-plete a bachelor’s degree at emory college, goizueta Business school, or the nell Hodgson Woodruff school of nursing.

School of Medicine (1854)one of the nation’s finest teaching and research institutions, the medical school is known for its research programs in cancer, heart disease, neurosciences, transplantation, vaccine development, orthopaedics, infectious diseases, biomedical engineering, and genetics. the school has 550 medical students and trains more than 1,200 residents and fellows. it also has five top-ranked allied health programs with 521 students. the school has 2,359 faculty in basic science and clinical departments. in 2012–2013 the medical school received $330.5 million in research funding, plus another $68.5 million in funds received by medical faculty at other units in health sciences and at the atlanta veterans affairs medical center (vamc). the school has long-standing affiliations in patient care, teaching, and research with grady memorial Hospital, the atlanta vamc, and children’s Healthcare of atlanta. Faculty clinicians in emory’s own or affiliated teaching hospitals are responsible for more than four million patient services annually.

Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (1905)the nursing school has 298 baccalaureate, 172 master’s, and 21 doctoral students. Bachelor’s degree graduates go on to become national and international leaders in patient care, public health, government, and education. master’s graduates are qualified to seek certification as nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and/or

clinical nurse specialists. the doctoral program focuses on clinical research, with emphasis on health policy, health outcomes, and ethics. in 2012–2013 the nursing school received $9.3 million in research funding. US News & World Report ranked the school’s graduate programs 21st overall, its nurse midwifery graduate pro-gram 13th, and its pediatric nurse practitioner program 11th in the nation. the school has 97 faculty, and students also learn from adjunct faculty at some 300 clinical sites, including an alternative winter break in three countries and a multi-university, multidisci-plinary collaborative summer program for georgia migrant farm-workers. the school has more than 6,700 alumni.

Candler School of Theology (1914)challenging academic programs, an outstanding 45-member faculty with an impressive record of research and publications, and a diverse student body of 441 from 39 denominations and 17 countries make candler stand out among seminaries. one of 13 united methodist theological schools, candler’s mission is to educate faithful and creative leaders for the church’s min-istries in the world. it offers five master’s degrees, two doctoral degrees, and joint-degree programs in law, business, pub-lic health, development practices, bioethics, and social work. candler’s 7,500 living alumni serve in leadership positions around the world.

School of Law (1916)ranked among the top law schools in the country, emory Law combines a practical and disciplined view of the study of law with a commitment to providing its 934 students experi-ential learning opportunities that engage them in the varied and integral roles the law plays in community, society, and the world. students are enrolled in four degree programs: juris doctor, juris master, master of laws, and doctor of juridical science. the incoming class has a median Lsat score of 165 with a median gPa of 3.75, making it one of the most intel-lectually talented groups of law students in the nation. emory

Law’s student-centered focus, innovative programs, field place-ments, and commitment to scholarly research ensure that its graduates are prepared for more than practice. throughout the world, emory Law alumni have significant impact as lawyers and engaged citizens within the communities they serve.

Goizueta Business School (1919)goizueta Business school equips students with the business acumen and skills needed to become principled leaders for global enterprise who create value for their organizations and improve society. consistently ranked among the nation’s top business schools, goizueta delivers a world-class education in an intimate learning environment. the school offers a num-ber of degree programs: BBa, one-year mBa, two-year mBa, evening mBa, executive Weekend mBa, executive modular mBa, Phd, and a portfolio of innovative nondegree executive education programs.

James T. Laney Graduate School (1919)Laney graduate school awards doctoral and master’s degrees in more than 40 programs spanning the biomedical and natural sci-ences, business, the humanities, nursing, public health, and the social sciences. it also offers joint degrees with emory Law, the school of medicine, and georgia institute of technology. emory’s

graduate programs encourage inter-disciplinary study and cross-disciplin-ary exchange within the context of excellent training in core disciplines. these competitive programs prepare graduates for careers ranging from college and university teaching to policy making, research, administra-tion, and service in the public and private sectors. the school boasts a range of resources to support student professional development, including preparation in the art of teaching; programming that connects students to alumni for informal mentoring; funds that support research, train-ing, and conference participation; and much more. the proximity to atlanta allows for collaborative part-nerships with many local institutions, including the carter center, the us centers for disease control and Prevention, and care.

Rollins School of Public Health (1990)rollins has 1,061 master’s and 152 doctoral students who choose from degree options in behavioral sciences and health education, biostatistics and bioinformatics, environmental health, epidemiology, health policy and management, and global health. the school offers dual degrees with medicine, nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant, business, law,

theology, and the graduate school (bioethics). a distance-based master’s program allows professionals to earn degrees while they work. the school has 283 full-time faculty, more than 400 adjunct faculty, and more than 6,000 alumni. research funding in 2012–2013 totaled $507.1 million. through its collabora-tions with the us centers for disease control and Prevention, the carter center, the american cancer society, care, the arthritis Foundation, the task Force for global Health, and state and local public health agencies—and through its role in international health research and training—the school makes atlanta a worldwide destination for public health. Michael C. Carlos MuseumLocated at the heart of emory’s campus, the michael c. carlos museum is georgia’s premier museum devoted to the art and history of world cultures. Founded in 1919, it is home to the southeast’s most distinguished collection of art and artifacts from ancient egypt, greece, rome, nubia, the near east, asia, africa, and the americas. in addition, a works-on-paper collection spans

from the renaissance to the present. the carlos museum offers an array of educational opportunities, including special exhibi-tions, audio tours, family guides, gallery talks, children’s programs and summer camps, interactive technology, films, internships, and much more. Athleticsemory fields 18 varsity sports under the auspices of ncaa division iii, whose members award no athletic scholarships or preferen-tial treatment for student-athletes. emory has one of the top all-around athletic programs in division iii, based on cumulative results in the nacda directors’ cup standings since fall 2000.

Giving to Emorycampaign emory, which raised $1.69 billion—including $225 million for scholarships—came to a close at the end of 2012. in its wake, the university has turned its attention more fully to scholarship funding. gifts to endow scholarships attract the best and brightest students and enable them to focus on their studies and to graduate without debt burdens that limit their career choices. giving to scholarships also allows emory to invest money normally spent on tuition in pro-grams, faculty, and facilities that make emory an unparalleled institution.

Sustainabilityemory’s commitment to sustainability seeks to restore local and global environments, foster healthy living, and reduce the university’s impact using the “triple bottom line” of social, environmental, and economic values. emory has received a gold rating by the association for the advancement of sustainability in Higher education stars program for its lead-ership in institutional sustainability; it also was named a tree campus usa university by the arbor day Foundation. the university has developed a comprehensive climate action Plan to meet long- and short-term emissions and energy-reduction goals, and boasts more than two million square

Librariesthe emory Libraries include the robert W. Yerkes National Primate Research CenterFor more than eight decades, the yerkes research center has been dedicated to conducting essential basic science and translational research to advance scientific understand-ing and improve human health and well-being. yerkes is one of only eight national institutes of Health–funded national primate research centers. in this role, the center provides leadership, training, and resources to foster scientific creativ-ity, collaboration, and discoveries. yerkes-based research is grounded in scientific integrity, expert knowledge, respect for colleagues, an open exchange of ideas, and compassionate, quality animal care. since 1985 the center has been fully accredited by the association for assessment and accreditation of Laboratory animal care international, regarded as the gold seal of approval for laboratory animal care. the yerkes research center’s multidisciplinary research pro-grams are leading to life-changing discoveries. researchers at the center are developing vaccines for infectious and non-infectious diseases; increasing understanding of and treat-ment options for neurodegenerative illnesses and stimulant

addiction; advancing knowledge about the links between biol-ogy, behavior, and environment; interpreting brain activity and vaccine development–related immunological function through imaging; and improving transplant medicine techniques and the immunosuppressive medications given postsurgery. yerkes-based research offers the promise that discoveries made at the center will improve the health of the nation and the world.

Emory Healthcare (1997)emory Healthcare is the most comprehensive health care sys-tem in georgia and comprises the following components: emory university Hospital, emory university Hospital midtown, emory university orthopaedics and spine Hospital, emory saint Joseph’s Hospital, emory Johns creek Hospital, the emory clinic (the most comprehensive group practice in georgia, with more than 1,800 clinicians and 200-plus locations throughout atlanta and the state), emory specialty associates (an outreach physician practice organization with offices throughout the metro area and the state), emory clinically integrated network (a network of physicians and hospitals formed to improve care coordination and quality outcomes and control costs for patients and the community), and Wesley Woods center for geriatric care. emory Healthcare has 1,830 licensed beds.
