Introduction

The 2014–15 academic year opened with a total student enrollment of 1,901, including 1,573 full-

time undergraduate students. Significant initiatives at the College from the past year include the

following achievements:

The College began a collaborative strategic planning process that called on the voices, ideas,

and aspirations of all members of the community. Led by a Strategic Planning Steering

Committee, a new strategic plan—Envision 2020—was developed.

The new athletic training major attracted an inaugural first class of 12, while the new exercise

science program debuted with 22 students.

Dan Helwig and Ed Wright joined the College as senior administrators. Helwig assumed the

post of vice president of advancement and Wright joined the staff as vice president of

enrollment management.

The College established a First Year Experience Program, a four-credit class that is theme-

based around an academic component including a one-credit course to help students

transition to college and shared learning communities.

The College signed a reverse transfer agreement with Harrisburg Area Community College,

providing a pathway for current LVC transfer students to utilize credits achieved at LVC to

transfer back to HACC in order to complete an associate degree.

Eleven Lebanon Valley College faculty and more than 60 students pursued several innovative

academic projects this summer thanks in large part to the Arnold Grants Program. In the third

annual round of President’s Innovation Fund grants, 10 grants were awarded to 27 faculty

members and administrators from 10 academic departments and 11 administrative offices.

Approximately 150 students gathered in Sorrentino Gymnasium to present their research,

internships, and other academic experiences at Inquiry 2015.

Twenty-one of 24 athletic teams competed in postseason play, highlighted by the softball

team capturing its third consecutive Commonwealth Conference championship and advancing

to the NCAA tournament. Volleyball and women’s basketball claimed ECAC championships.

Cynthia Adams won the school’s second national championship in the NCAA Division III 800-

meter indoor track event. Ten athletes earned All-American honors in their respective sports.

The College also announced that men’s ice hockey team will return to NCAA Division III

competition during the 2016-17 season and will establish a new women’s ice hockey team

that will begin play in 2016-17.

Mission of the College

Lebanon Valley College delivers a transformative education built on the liberal arts. We develop students

who think critically and creatively across boundaries; who solve complex problems; who communicate

effectively; and who value differences among human beings. Our graduates are empowered to pursue a

life of learning, citizenship, and success.

The College motto is, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32)
