Junior League of Tulsa Celebrate being a girl

(Tulsa, Okla.) August 25, 2009 – The Junior League of Tulsa (JLT) is presenting the 6th annual American Girl Fashion Show, Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8, 2009. The tea party and fashion show will be held at the Junior League of Tulsa Headquarters, located at 3633 South Yale (near 36th and Yale) in Tulsa. Local elementary school girls will serve as runway models. Each costume is an exact replica of the American Girl doll she holds. Tulsa-area celebrities will emcee each of the six fashion shows, while high school girls will narrate. This family-friendly fundraiser benefits the JLT and its community programs. “The Junior League is excited to offer an elegant and entertaining, girl-focused event that’s perfect for grown-ups to share with the special young girls in their lives,” says Kathy Knight, American Girl Chair. “Each American Girl doll personifies a unique quality possessed by all young girls. The different heritages represented in the series together define what it means to be a girl in America today.” Rachael Hunsucker, President of the Junior League, remarks, “The American Girl doll series reflects much of America’s past and present culture, and girls’ developing personalities. This show helps teach history and individual expression to viewers while engendering self-confidence and poise in the models and narrators.” “The Junior League strives to help women and children in transition through its community programs,” explains Sarah Dougherty, Community Council Vice President. “We feel American Girl is a perfect fit for us as a fundraiser because we all want to empower girls to become the community leaders of tomorrow.” Model Search The Junior League is seeking 150 elementary-age girls on a first-come, first-served basis who can reasonably wear sizes 6x-10. Model applications and other forms can be found on the website www.jltulsa.org. Knight explains why this is a unique opportunity for young girls: “All our models are nurtured through rehearsals, and coached to have confidence performing before a crowd. Each child can find the doll she relates to most and learn how to express her individuality. And what better way is there for girls to learn self expression than to get out on the runway and show off their style!”
