Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Redstone 1)
The following features are planned to be introduced to Windows 10 Mobile with the Redstone 1 update.
Note: This list of features is preliminary and may be subject to change.
Windows Hello
– Use your phone to unlock a paired desktop PC or laptop.

calendar, or sending you an alert when your child arrives home from school.
– Receive text or missed call notifications, from a paired phone, on your PC.
– Use your PC to reply to text messages on a paired phone.
– Receive alerts to your PC when your phone battery is running low, or locate your phone using
a PC
– Create a list, like a shopping list, that you can view and edit across your devices.
– Save information with Cortana, like an image of an important document, so that you can ask
her about it later.
Continuum—Use your phone to wirelessly connect to a screen attached to a tablet or PC running the

Security and privacy
Biometric login with Windows Hello
The device features both a fingerprint reader and iris scanner designed to enable biometric login. The
fingerprint reader will only be functional after the supporting drivers for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update
have been installed on the phablet. This update will be available from the end of September or early October
2016.
To set up biometric login, follow these steps.
1. Navigate to Settings Accounts Sign-in options.
2. If you have not already set up a PIN on your device, you should do so now. The Windows Hello
biometric login option will only be available after the customer has set up a PIN.

Backup and recovery
Backup options
Before a phablet is sent in for repairs, or a reset is performed, customers should be advised to create backups
so that they do not lose all of the data on their device. If customers used a microSD card, they should
remember to remove the card from the phablet before sending it in for repairs.
The following backup options are recommended for the HP Elite x3.
OneDrive backup
Customers who are signed into their Microsoft account on the phablet can create a OneDrive backup to save
all of their contacts, apps and settings to the cloud. If anything happens to their phablet, they will be able
restore a new device with the backup by signing in with their Microsoft account during the OOBE.
To create a OneDrive backup, customers can do the following:
1. If you are not already signed in to your Microsoft account, you should navigate to Settings Accounts
Your email and accounts and do so now.
2. Swipe right from the Start screen to navigate to the All apps screen.
3. Navigate to Settings Update & security Backup.
4. Toggle both options on the screen to On to enable automatic backups.
5. To back up the phablet immediately,
a. Tap More options to view more backup options.
b. Tap Back up now from the backup options screen to back up the phablet.
Note: To restore a OneDrive backup to a new or reset phablet, you will have to sign in with the same Microsoft account
you used to create the Backup during the OOBE on the new/reset device.

2. Tap Manage OneDrive upload settings.
3. Toggle the “Camera upload” feature to On.
Note: The option to upload videos and photos to your OneDrive account will not be available if you are not signed in to a
Microsoft account on the phablet.
To back up messages to OneDrive:
1. Navigate to Settings System Messaging.
2. Under History & sync, toggle the “Sync messages
between devices” option to On.
Note: The option to upload videos and photos to your OneDrive
account will not be available if you are not signed in to a
Microsoft account on the phablet.

Backup to microSD card:
Customers can insert a microSD card with up to 2 TB storage space—purchased separately—into their
phablet to expand the storage available on their phablet and create backups of their files.
For detailed instructions on how to insert an SD card into the phablet, see the Inserting a SIM/SD card
handout.
To manually copy or move files to the SD card, do the following:
1. Launch the File Explorer app from the All apps screen.
2. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner of the page to
launch the app menu.
3. Select This Device.
4. Browse through the files on the phone until you find what you want to back up. Tap and hold the folder or
file you want to copy. From the menu that displays, select Move to to cut and paste the files, or Copy to
to copy and paste.
5. Tap the app menu again, and select the SD card.
6. Browse to the folder to which you want to save the files, and tap the tick icon at the bottom of the screen
to paste the files you copied earlier.

To adjust the settings to ensure that files are automatically
saved to the SD card:
1. Launch the Settings app from the All apps screen.
2. Navigate to System Storage.
3. Under Save locations, you can select the default location
for apps, downloads, music, pictures, and videos to be
saved to. Select the drop-down arrow under one of the
options listed on the screen, and select the SD card to
automatically save your files to the SD card.
Note: Changing these settings will not move files that are
already saved on your phablet. It only sets the SD card as the
default location for any files that will be added to the phablet
in the future.

functioning correctly. To launch the app, customers can navigate

tests have been run, and whether the phablet has passed
or failed the test.

4. Detected Wi-Fi networks display on the screen. Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
5. If the network is secured by a password, enter it when prompted and tap Connect.
6. If the phablet has successfully connected to the network, a screen briefly appears to indicate that it is
connected. You will automatically be returned to the Instructions page for the test.
After you have completed a test, you’ll see that there is an icon next
to the test tile indicating whether it has passed or failed. Test logs can
also be viewed by selecting the Logs menu option in the app home
screen.
A green tint with a thumbs-up
icon indicates that the phablet
passed the test.
A red tint with a thumbs-down
icon indicates that the phablet
failed the test. There are
several factors, like an incorrect
password, that may cause the
test to fail.
