There is no charge to create a Page for your business

Over one third of Facebook users “like” Pages of one or more brand or business- over 132 million people

The number one reason users become fans of a brand or business is to receive offers and promotions

56% of internet users cite Facebook Pages and their updates as having significant influence over buying decisions

Users click through 2X more links through Facebook than through Google

History of FacebookHistory of FacebookFacebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his

college roommates, fellow computer science students

The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but quickly was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area and Ivy League schools

It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged 13 and over, in 2006

Sharing Information on Sharing Information on FacebookFacebook

This section controls who can see all the content you post on a day-to-day basis (status updates, photos, etc)

Also includes some things you share about yourself (birthday and contact information) and content others share about you (comments on your posts and photos and videos you've been tagged in)

"Customize settings" displays a full list so you can control the privacy level for each setting

Basic Directory Basic Directory InformationInformation

Certain information is visible to everyone because it's essential to helping people find and connect with you on Facebook. Name and profile picture are visible to everyone so real world friends can recognize you, and so we can display them when you write on someone's Wall

Gender is public so we can correctly display your gender (for example, "Add her as a friend”)

Networks are visible to everyone so you can see who else is part of your network (and will have access to your information) before choosing "Friends and Networks" for any of your privacy settings

Other information in this section, including hometown and interests, is visible by default to help friends and other people you have things in common with connect with you

Page 15: Facebook1

Application and Website Application and Website SettingsSettings

This section controls what information is shared with websites and applications, including search engines (applications and websites you and your friends use already have access to your name, profile picture, gender, networks, friend list, user ID, and any other information you share with everyone)

You can view your applications, remove any you don't want to use, or turn off platform completely

Turning off platform means you won't be able to use any platform applications or websites and we won't share your information with them

Page 16: Facebook1

Everyone, Friends of Friends & Everyone, Friends of Friends & FriendsFriends

"Everyone" is best for information that people may want to share with a larger audience and can potentially be seen by anyone on Facebook (Would you share this info with everyone on the street?)

"Friends of Friends" is best for things like photos and videos of you, which are often relevant to friends of your friends (Would you share this info with everyone you went to school with?)

"Friends Only" is for things you only wish to share with people you are directly friends with

Custom option is available if you wish to organize your friends into groups and select visibility based on groups (ie co-workers cannot see photos, but all other friends can)

Page 17: Facebook1

Block ListsBlock Lists This section lets you block people from interacting with

you or seeing your information on Facebook

When you block a person, you cut all ties (friends, details and comments) with the person and you will not show up when they search for you while logged in to their account

You can also specify friends you want to ignore application invites from, and see a list of the specific applications that you've blocked from accessing your information and contacting you

Page 18: Facebook1

Preview My ProfilePreview My ProfileThis feature on the Privacy Settings page lets you

see how different people can view your page with the settings you have selected

The view that comes up is your directory listing as it would be seen by someone that is not a friend

You can type in the name of a friend to see how they would see your profile

Page 19: Facebook1

Tagging in Your Status To add a friend's name, group or Page to something you

are posting, just include the "@" symbol beforehand

As you type the name of what you would like to reference, a drop-down menu will appear that allows you to choose from your list of friends, groups, events, applications and Pages

The "@" symbol will not be displayed in the published status update or post after you've added your tags

Friends, Groups or Pages you tag in your status updates will receive a notification and a Wall post linking them to your post (if their settings allow this)

musical groups, celebrities, businesses, brands and similar entities (not individuals for themselves)

Business PageBusiness PageCreating a Page is very similar to creating a profile-

visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php upload a photo or your logo, fill in the desired description and contact information and invite your friends to “Like” it

To keep your page relevant, interesting and indexing well it’s a good idea to regularly update your Page with videos, pictures, offers, quizzes and information that relates to your business and field

The person who establishes the Page is the administrator and can decide what “Likes” and other people have access to on the page

Page 22: Facebook1

Insights for your PageInsights for your PageOn the left hand side of your page (from an

administrator’s account) by the fold is a Insights area

This provides detailed feedback about your likes, post feedback, demographics of users and how many people looked at content on your page like photos and videos

This is a great tool to use to see how your users react to particular offers, deals or information you post

This is also a great tool to see what type of people might be interested in your business
