It is with great pleasure that I announce the hiring of LisaLineweaver as Assistant Principal for the Kelly ElementarySchool. Ms. Lineweaver comes to us with seven years ofexperience as the Director of Accelerated Improvement atthe Blackstone Elementary School in Boston; eight years atthe Boston Plan for Excellence; and, three years in theWilliamsburgJames City County Public Schools. Ms. Lineweaver’s belief in the City of Chelsea and inChelsea education has been evident throughout her career.She and her family have lived in Chelsea for approximatelyten years, her children attend Chelsea Public Schools, andfor eight years she served on the Chelsea School Committeerepresenting District 5. We anticipate great things to come atthe Kelly Elementary School from the partnership of PrincipalMaggie SanchezGleason and Ms. Lineweaver. It is also with great pleasure that I announce the hiring ofMonica Caporale as the Assistant Principal of the BerkowitzElementary School. Ms. Caporale is an experiencededucator and administrator having served for 26 years inpublic education in the Revere Public Schools. She has heldthe positions of elementary special education teacher,Educational Team Leader (ETL), assistant director of specialeducation, and assistant principal.

I knowthat the team of Principal Adam Deleidi and Ms. Caporalewill be highly successful for their students, families, and theirstaff. HOOKS UPDATES
On Thursday the Hooks School celebrated their annual Family Traditions Dinner.The celebration included a performance of traditional Colombian dances and foodfrom various countries around the globe. The evening ended with a fashion show.Hooks school students performed in a fashion showing wearing traditional dressfrom over ten countries. Families, community members, and Hooks staff enjoyed a
fun filled evening.

KELLY UPDATES
It was an eventful week at the Kelly! We kicked off the week with the 3rd vs. 4thsoccer game where students showed their grit and teamwork on the soccer court.
Students also showed their focus and speed during the Kelly Cup StackingTournament!
Today, 4th graders shared their research on Ancient Civilizations, including artifacts,costumes, and activities for fellow Kelly students to participate in.

CLARK AVENUE UPDATES
The Clark Avenue School will host its annual talent show CLARK'S GOT TALENT on Monday, June 19 from 3:00 pm 4:00 pm in the cafeteria. Come join us as wecelebrate the singing, dancing, and instrumental performance skills of our middleschool students! A team of teachers will show off in an act as well! Students willemcee the event and decorations will be designed by the National Junior Honor
Society. See you there!
The 8th grade math teachers (Kelly McInnis, Stephanie Buruca, and Maggie Webb)at the Clark Avenue School planned the first ever Math Career day on June 7.
Presenters came from Dunkin Donuts Corporate, Clicksoftware, Starbucks,
Healthcare, Construction, the entertainment field, and Industrial design. Studentsattended presentations about how different careers use math on a daily basis.

Students followed along with presenters using clipboards donated via a Donorschoose project. Students researched the different careers before the presentationsand asked questions of the presenters. They were excited to learn how the concepts
they've been learning this year apply to careers.

Fabulous work done by Clark scholars as they completed their history service
learning projects! Students studies historical time periods, immigration, geographicalfeatures, and other events that have made Chelsea the community that it is. Overthe year, they interviewed community members including lifelong residents andconducted research at City Hall and the Library. A great team of history teachers
collaborated to make this project happen. This evening was the showcase and manyparents and students came to share. What a great community we have!

11 Graduating Seniors Awarded New Seal of Biliteracy This year, for the first time ever, Chelsea Public Schools has introduced a new "Seal
of Biliteracy." This is an award that recognizes students who achieve fullproficiency in English and one other language. The Seal recognizes the fact that
being literate in two languages is a huge asset that prepares students for success incollege, opens up new employment opportunities, and enables students to
communicate and understand people across different cultures.

Students may earn a Seal at one of three levels, depending on their qualifying testscores: Platinum, Gold, or Silver. On June 5th at Senior Awards Night, 11 studentsreceived a medal and certificate in recognition of this significant achievement. All ofthese students received the Seal for their achievement in English and Spanish:

Music Production is a class at CHS which teaches songwriting, recording, andmixing. Recently, work was completed on Studio A within the Music Production
classroom, transforming it from a closet into a professionalgrade recording booth forrecording vocals and instruments. The Music Production class would like to thankPrincipal Priti Johari and Director of Buildings and Grounds Joe Cooney in their
support of obtaining the proper building permit to complete this work, and to HarvardPilgrim for providing a minigrant to pay for the acoustic foam.
