The concept of a facebook is a collection of studentphotographs designed by schools to introduce studentsto each other

Social networks are perceived by many in today¶s societyas an important part of our daily life

Whether used by teenagers to upload their latestweekends¶ pictures or by the advertising departments of multi-national corporations showing their latest offerings

Who is the genius behind Facebook, the largest socialnetwork in the world with over 500 million active users?

Focusing on the legal clashes between Zuckerberg and Harvard classmates

over who should get credit for the social-networking phenomenon

The film in general paints a picture of Mark Zuckerberg with contrasting

views

1st view: Zuckerberg is an untrustworthy and selfish human being who has

lied and stolen from those around him

2nd view leaves you feeling sorry for Zuckerberg as he is led astray by hisown naïve and vulnerable nature. Especially concerning the business advice

of associate Sean Parker at the expense of the friendship of Zuckerbergs co-

entrepreneurial approach was selfish or very intelligent

However, it is very difficult to assess how much of the film

actually relates to the real life creation of Facebook, especially

as several well regarded authors have published works on

Facebook based on far more factual evidence

According to David Kirkpatrick, author of The Facebook

Effect: The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting the

World, only 40% of the film is true

Criticism

Overall the film earned plaudits from film critics

Said to be the movie of the year with an average score of 9/10 on

rottentomatoes.com

BUT: Some reviewers pointed out that the film plays loosely with the

facts behind Facebook's founding everything thats seen isnt

necessarily to be believed

Zuckerberg s opinion: its hugely basic things they got wrong, like

the whole motivation for creating Facebook was to get girls

Kirkpatrick says: Neither Fincher or Sorkin seem that interested in

Facebook. They use the growth and the money as background

phenomena. They don't begin to understand it's social political and

zeitgeist role. 24




7. Conclusion

Although Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of the largest

invasive social network (making personal information publicly

available and states that the age of privacy is over), it is

interesting how little information there is to find about him on

the internet

Facebook is still growing and there are new applications and

services every month which keep adding to the companys

value

Despite the early pressures to cash-in on the fledgling

company Zuckerberg was smart enough not to sell the

company at the beginning before it could reach its full

potential and the rest is history25
