US Offensive Bumper Sticker? Say Hello to a $50 Fine•Posted on July 3, 2011 at 8:49pm by    Christopher Santarelli

•We see bumper stickers everyday. Some make us laugh, some are tacky, some are obnoxious. •But a new Tennessee law will now regulate and penalize drivers for bumper stickers the state deems to be obscene.

WKRN Nashville:“Starting Friday, Tennessee drivers caught with obscene or patently offensive bumper stickers, window signs or other markings on their vehicle visible to other drivers face an automatic $50 fine.

Tennessee code 55-8-187 had allowed judges to decide on a fine from $2 to $50 based on their opinion.”

Necessary or an attack on your freedom of speech?

Essential Question

How do we exhibit legal and ethical behavior while using technology

to express your point of view?

Is this legal or illegal?

The rap group 2 Live Crew borrowed the opening musical tag and the words

(but not the melody) from the first line of the song “Pretty Woman”

(“Oh, pretty woman, walking down the street”).

The rest of the lyrics and the music were different.

Will Copyright Laws allow this?

Do you have something on your mind?Something you want other people to know?

Step 1 Pick A Message! How to choose your message? Look around you, think of problems you've heard about or seen, and talk to others.Step 2 Choose A Slogan! Slogans are short and catchy phrases. They tell the message in a way that people don't forget. Step 3 Get the Message Out! A message is not public service unless the

public hears or reads or sees it.
